it’s a perfectly logical word construction, much like a shoesmith, blacksmith etc etc. I don’t have a problem with it personally.

I have just sent off my application for next years intake. I know a number of PGCE/NQTs and each have had differeing experiences. some hated it, most love it, none regret it…so far!

I am looking forward to it (assuming I get accepted on the course I want).

in hindsight, we wouldn’t have bothered with the Building survey and just got other specific surveys done such as Timber and damp, electrical and drainage survey. Although these people only work to line their own pockets, they can highlight things that are dangerous etc and you can choose what to get done and the money saved in not commissioning a surveyor will pay for some of these.

for instance the Timber and damp survey we had done was £50 which is refunded against the cost of any work carried out (which for us was nearly £3000 for a list of damp and wood treatments that we’ve decided to do ourselves).

The surveyor will only refer you to do these surveys anyway so save the money and just get them done instead!

Also TJ the reasonable time a product should last and therefore be replaced or repaired differs from the time in which you have to reject a sale and get a refund.

Exactly so whats the argument about? the fact remains the item is believed to be faulty and therefore should be offered either a repair, refund or replacement regardless of whether he’s accepted the sale.

the two facts are separate. you dont relinquish your rights by accepting the sale.

if it is faulty, you can demand a repair or replacement or a refund. there is not expiry time on this other than the one regarding the lifetime of the product which is very subjective. given that this item is designed to protect a rider from the tarmac, I would expect it to last a good number of years and if it was falling apart after a few months I would be asking for a new one

is that a set for your head? or a headset? :p

It keeps saying REPAIR OR REPLACE.

by ‘it’ you mean them [dianese]. it doesn’t matter what they say, just what your rights are and your rights, assuming the item is genuinely faulty, are such that you can demand a replacement or refund.

    highclimber

I should add that they can ask to send the item off for testing etc in order to confirm that it is faulty.

an item should be fit for purpose and last a reasonable amount of time. it would appear to me that the item doesn’t satisfy either of these statemnts and I would be surprised if they find it not to be.

it doesn’t matter if it’s outside THEIR 28 days. SOGA superceeds this ‘benefit’.

it is faulty, they should replace it or give you your money back.

    thatz da law innit

I wouldn’t go in there armed with pages from the SOGA, just go in knowing your are right and try to be diplomatic as they are less likely to take a defensive attitude.

just politely remind them of their duty should you deem the item to be faulty. now they can’t say the item isn’t faulty and that is that. but if, like you say it is un-stitching through general use and this is a protective peice of clothing, then I highly doubt they will try to argue otherwise given that it is obviously not ‘fit for purpose’

You might be missing the point. A survey gives you an insurance policy as well as advising of any problems. If the surveyor missess anything vital then you can challenge him and get compensation.

don’t back on that thought. the surveys are caveated to high heaven to exonerate them from any responsibility should you discover, like in my situation, that the chimney breast is unsupported and will take 2k to make safe and repair.

They don’t do destructive testing, hell, they dont even lift the carpets up unless you ask.

besides all that, why have you resurrected an 8 month old thread?

I would assume On-One know what they are selling. I would also assume that they (the manufacturer) have tested these bars to destruction in R&D. Go for it, though I think you can gett better weight savings else where without that niggling thought that you’ll be picking bits of composite out of your eyes and face should you crash.

Why don’t you complain to the PDNPA? if these ‘rangers’ are commissioned to do a specific job and they are wrongly diverting their attention to cyclists on Bridleways and the like, I’m pretty sure the PDNP will want to know about it!

I would have a Sol look at the legal pack on your behalf. be prepared to pay 10% of the value plus the buyers fee (3%+ IIRC).

don’t get bid happy, its just bricks and mortar and there isn’t a shortage of properties!

    Good luck.

I work on the basis I can send anything up to 32kgs for a maximum of £13 with Senditnow.com.

I always ignore all auctions that have excessive postage costs for this reason.

I have an estate 2.0 TDCi 130. it’s done 80k and the only thing that’s broken on it is the cig lighter/charger!

Love it and I can get 50+ mpg with careful planning!

driven to the alps in it and it swallows kit (and bikes) for fun!

get the Diesel, you’ll not regret it – you can buy mine if you want as i’m selling it!

Cosmetic enhancements not unless they can prove there’s some sort of psychological issue caused by them.

it’s all too easy to convince a doc that you need something if you cry enough!

I think they should stop wasting money in other ways than cutting treatments. there are a number of overpaid middle and upper managers that could be got rid of.

Yup – completely unneeded. The only thing you are not covered for under reciprocal arrangements is repatriation. I ain’t a huge big hard rock climber tho.

BMC 3rd pty liability only extends to, well, 3rd parties you injure. it doesn’t cover anything you require such as lost equipment, hospital costs and rescue where rescue isn’t free.

I haven’t been taken in by anything, I am aware of the risks of what I do I want to protect myself and my (limited) money should the worst happen and Insurance I have taken out in the past was completely necessary and most definately not a waste of money in the absence of retrospect.

The irony is that your insurance company sells your information to the no-win-no-fee companies and then blames them for your insurance premium going up because of the resulting claims.

    It’s a win-win situation for them!

same as I self insure in loads of other situations such as mountaineering in the EU and so on.

you mean you don’t have ANY insurance when mountaineering? I can possibly understand you not wanting/needing cycle insurance but for this I cannot understand your logic!

I have to admire your fatalistic outlook TJ.
You remind me of all those people who live near volcanoes or in eatherquake zones. most of them have lived for decades underneath dormant volcanoes or in EQ zones and beleive it will never happen to them, then BANG!

Supposing someone knocks me off. I don’t want to deal with the consequences of trying to claim, I want to give it to my insurers and let them deal with it. They’re the experts, they have the time to deal with other insurance companies on my behalf.

This. Whenever you have a crash in a car, you defer it to your insurers. why not have the same ability on your bike (regardless of fault)
