We have no signal in areas of our house so a landline is essential. I live in Caernarfon – not exactly rural back end of north wales!

I just wish they all would use a material for the strapping that doesn’t tweeze my stubble when I haven’t had a shave for a few days! it bloody hurts!

you could be forgiven for thinking that the old pezl meteor helmet was a bike helmet!

The only time I have had anything hit my helmet was in winter from a tennis ball sized piece of water ice.
That said I know a guy who fell on a route and the peice of pro above him pinged out and hit his helmet so hard that it cracked it.

Not exactly the number one risk at stanage is it?

This is precisely my point as to why climbing helmets are toss. Not helped by the testing standards placing such importance on falling rock protection.

I agree. I suspect bike helmets provide better protection from the needs of crag climbing!

    Climbing helmets are toss

some are good at what the helmet is designed for – rocks falling from above but most don’t offer anywhere near enough protection that is required from modern climbing.

but mostly, yes they are garbage.

Petzl Ecrin Roc – used by all the professional climbers

no it’s not. They either don’t wear one or wear only what their sponsors allow them to.

there are a number of helmets that don’t. All I ask from a climbing helmet is that it fits as comfortably as my bike lid but the search continues!

    hear hear, ben.

You are effectively paying to have your name on a register and nothing else,

and they can’t even get that right!

For the same pay as a nurse working 12 hours a week less than me.

Nurses do more work than Doctors.

    highclimber

I find it disgusting considering their ineptitude at keeping their register updated

    Example:

My OH (A nurse) has a direct debit set up and they took her subscription but didn’t update the register to indicate she’d paid. She was unable to work for a week and faced a disciplinary from work through no fault of her own.
After a number of phone calls and after being on hold for an eternity she got her details updated and was able to work. No apology from the NMC: nothing!

avoid all of the big players like Safestyle everest and anglian as they will suck the life out of you during the ‘no obligation quote’ i.e. they won’t take ‘no’ for an answer!

Really? you can’t put your finger on it?

If I forget to take a bag to the shop (and I often do) I will do my best to carry the items to the car rather than pay for a bag I don’t really need.

Metcheck is utter garbage and should not be used.

Use this[/url] instead. Tis the most accurate site I have used and is updated more than once a day!

o be fair highclimber you’ve given the TaxPayers’ Alliance a few inches on here.

But at least there is a few links to who the TPA actually are and who works for them!

Your post, Ernie, has made me question, once again, why I bother paying the BBC to exist considering their ability to give inches to such a pathetic organisation and their inability to give a balanced report.

a gps will drop a ‘breadcrumb’ trail as you walk when turned on to an accuracy beyond what can be read/draw on a paper map. if you upload a GPX of your route it will display this on the screen and if you have the maps installed you’ll be able to see it in real-time where you are and where you need to go.

If you can will it give you real time navigation?

what do you mean by this? Sat nav ‘turn left, turn right’ style instructions? if so then you’ll be disappointed.

A GPS should only really be used as a navigation aid which suppliments a paper map and compass. as such you really don’t need to spend a fortune on digital maps.

Get the cheapest device you can find, get a map and compass and, more importantly, the knowledge on how to use them properly then get out and enjoy the wilderness.

They warranty their frames for two years. That seems a reasonable amount of time. If you’re using it regularly and there is a defect, its going to become clear fairly soon

I would hope that, through proper use and maintainence a frame would last at least 5 years. a fault might not show itself for that period but I would have had a good use of it over that period because, lets face it, when you spend over £1000 on a frame you are going to use it!

    I might just do that!

I don’t accept that smaller businesses are struggling with the charge as I know that I will have to pay for a bag if I need one and will take one with me and I know that most people in wales do the same.
Most of the time a bag is completely unnecessary and people expect to be given one.

im a climber first, mtb-er second though a month ago that was different as I was riding more than climbing as the weather wasn’t conducive to climbing.
I live in North Wales so I have best of both worlds really but i would probably choose climbing over riding if someone gave me the choice!

I said to A that i would end the listing as soon as they paid.. but they hadnt paid by the time i went to work this morning so I couldnt end the listing on ebay.

Technically if you were to pull the sale to Buyer B, you’d be in breach of contract. just sell to B, it’s gonna be a whole lot easier in the long run what with Neg feedback and a hash against your name on ebay.

Who do i sell the bike to??

the person who pays in full first, of course! if Buyer A was that desperate to have it he would have paid ASAP
