Armoured cable has stands of steel wound around the internal wires and is coated with a strong PVC jacket, not to mention the Earth Live and Neutral will have a nice PVC jacket too so ithink its safe to say you don’t need to run it through any trunking.

It is notifiable to Building control but most people ignore this and given it’s your house, no one need know! unless you come to sell then you just take out an indemnity policy to cover the fact you don’t have it signed off by BC or a Part P registered Sparky which would cost you A LOT more than the indemnity policy!

i suppose it’s up to the Insurers. then I suppose they might not cover ‘acts of God’.

I suppose it’s not so much the fact that they’ve billed us for the removal as it is about the installation (or lack thereof) and it’s all just annoyed us.

It wasn’t really explained to us what was and, more importantly, what wasn’t included in a ‘trade fit’. We’ve never bought windows before and we’ve no idea what’s what when it comes to installation, but surely it doesn’t cost that much more to weather-proof a window versus us getting someone else to do it.

Unforunately we are not in a financial position to get all them done in one hit and we explained to the salesman that all the windows would be replaced and we would like one company to do it but some windows were in such a state that we needed them replacing ASAP.

As far as knowing they would want paying for the removal, we asked for a quote first and they didn’t provide one and just turned up and when I asked about the quote from the fitters they didn’t know anything.
Further to that, the salesman said the price included the removal then the Surveyor said it didn’t so I don’t know who’s telling the truth!

Not to mention the fact the bay window hasn’t been made water-tight (The others have) and it’s pissing down.

generally you will have the same drivers, similar time everyday, be polite, ask how they are, tell them in future when you will be home, when you work, then they will deliver, they probably get as pissed of as you with the 5th failed delivery etc

There is a problem with this theory in that the one I have comes earlier than 7am, doesn’t knock and leaves no contact details on the card to ring them – they don’t even date and time the thing!

today it was being ridden by Vicky Pollard!

I suppose it depends on the driver as one of my ‘friends’ on Facebook has commented on my status about this issue who is a driver for them.
He seems to think that drivers don’t get paid for not delivering items and implied that there’s no point in going to an address only to post a card and not the item for that reason if you have the item. In the same sentence he stated that they have 150 parcels to deliver and time is of the essence! Go figure!

I caught Royal mail once and when I pointed out he was breaking the law and i’d be telling on him, he quickly produced my parcel

Sign saying you are in when you are?

I have left a sign on the door saying ‘Knock Loudly’, just in case they are not able to reach my giant knocker!

    Not just me then?

I dunno, but you’d think the delivery man would get the hint after three times (assuming it’s the same guy/gal) that I actually want my items and not a card!

I not a difficult person, but I dont want to go back and have little interest in helping them till they recruit. I wondered what my rights were and indeed how to act.

all you need to do is hand them a dated letter stating how much you have enjoyed working for them etc and that you intend to work the minimum notice period and would like to either have your holidays owed as lieu of notice or paid directly to you. nothin more nothing less. They can refuse to accept it but they cannot force you to work there a moment longer than you want to.

if you are frightend of being made unwelcome by handing your notice in i’d say you are doing the right thing – it’s not good for you to hide behind a facade of ‘im doing this because it’s what I get paid for and not because I like it’.

totally depends on your contract. Ask you HR dept (assumin there is one) to send you a copy of it. You can take any leave you might have accrued as notice so you could potentially leave a lot sooner than your obligation.
That said, Notice periods are not enforceable as they cannot ‘force’ you to work for them for x weeks before you leave. the only crux to this is that they won’t pay you and or could sue you for any pay you owe them though this is unlikely.

You don’t owe your current employer any real loyalty other than a moral one.

Then back to Llanberis and into V10 for coffee and cake.

Is that next door to V12?

Moel Eilio looks like a lot of fun though I haven’t ridden it yet.

depending on the size of the house and how many circuits you want it could be well over £1000 for a rewire and consumer unit upgrade. If the Consumer unit is relitively modern then chances are that it won’t be as old as you think. Modern wiring uses Blue/brown for Neutral and live whereas older properties (pre 1980’s IIRC) are black and red.

Oh and if you have to ask if it’s a scam, it usually is!

I had a very similar email when selling my car. it’s without a shado of doubt a scam. I know for certain as when the sent the ‘money’ to my paypal account, the invoice was sent to my hotmail account when my paypal is linked to my Gmail account.

ignore and do not respond unless you want to have a laugh with them.

I wouldn’t make a big deal of it only if you do he may become self-concious about it ergo make it worse. if it gets worse, it might be worth speaking to his teachers and/or a speech therapist, but only if it gets worse!

[pedant]a poison is generally something that you breathe in or eat. snakes, spiders, scorpions etc are all venomous though they not necessarily poisonous[/pedant]

BTW, those mortgage calulators you get on bank websites don’t really tell you anything, nor does the compare websites, unfortunately the only way you can find out what int rate you’re eligible for is to apply for certain mortgages but speculatively applying for mortgages is generally regarded as a bad idea!

    highclimber

We paid for a mortgage advisor. not the cheapest option by any stretch but the least stressful part of the whole house buying malarky.
we have an 87k mortgage with 10% dep. and we’re paying about 6% interest IIRC works out about £450 pcm.

its a minefield out there and the Advisor will find a good deal if there’s one out there, just make sure your credit file is up-to-date and accurate as one mistake on your file could mean you getting knocked back!
