Looks a lot of fun to me. Thanks for all the hard work Glen and the others. I’m helping the Hurtwood Trail lot this Sunday, otherwise I’d offer to give you a hand. Will try and get over there at some stage soon.

My personal experience is that I had told people (who I love) that I wasn’t gay, when I knew I was. You may think it’s all about the brand/money and you may be right, I was just trying to give you some prospective from my experience.

gwj72 – please listen to what Emsz is saying. Without meaning to sound patronising (I’m sure I will though, so sorry), unless you’ve been through something like this it’s difficult to know how difficult it is for some people. Emsz has put it so much better than I can.

I probably knew I was gay in my early 20’s, denied to myself until my mid twenties and didn’t come out until I was 30. It’s easy to be cynical about what you think his motives may be, but it must be even more difficult for someone in the spotlight.

Anyway, it’s great that the vast majority on here are supportive.

If you’re looking to buy a frame, Bromley Bike Co. are currently doing MK11’s at £1349 and MK10’s at £1149 – their website says different, but that’s what they are selling them for in the shop – I know as I bought one today! Can’t yet help with the tyre clearance thing though, as I now need to save up for the other bits!

Not only do I name them, but I also thank them after good ride and apologise when I crash them – perfectly normal, surely!

I’m happy to show you about tomorrow if you like (as long as it’s not too early!).

As the others said, Walking Bottom would probably be a better starting place (I always find Leith Hill more boggy than the other hills). Feel free to email me if you fancy it (address in profile).

Years ago, I needed to get a piston out of a 2CV caliper and a mates Dad came up with this mad cap idea for holding a bike pump adaptor hard against where the brake pipe went in and pumping away with bike pump. We sniggered at this right up until the point when the piston shot out and took the bulb in the garage with it!

I got up in the middle of the night to watch the one in Oz – it was worth it to see Peaty win! I think I might have even shed a tear – don’t tell the others will you!

I love 2Cv’s and Dyanes – there is lots of really clever design in the cars and they are great fun to drive. The best car I’ve ever owned was a (this is one for the Citroen nerds!) Dyane body on and Ami Super chassis, with a 1300 GSA engine and 5 speed box with lowered stiffened suspension – it was a real street sleeper and handled brilliantly! I’ve also had a 4×4 Dyane (more ground clearance and travel than a Landy and still under 700kgs) and a couple of race cars – the 24 hour race is amazing.

My mate is currently developing a kit to put a BMW bike engine in them…

PS I realise it’s not the most exciting video in the world if you don’t like 2CVs!

Firstly, you’ll have a great time at Bike Village – amazing trails, lovely people and fantastic food.

I wore knee pads the first year I went and although I’ve taken them on trips since I’ve not worn them – not because I think I’m great or anything, it’s just that I prefer not to wear them! As some of the others have said there is a mix of pad wearers and non pad wearers, but there is never a problem stopping to put them on/taking them off.

You would, however, be mad to go without a dropper post!

I have in the past used a couple of old stems, clamped on the steerer as a guide, but have since bought a cheap guide from Merlin, which makes cutting steerers and bars down fool proof. I have always found getting star fangled nuts in straight a real fiddle, but now have one of those things in chakaping’s link – it’s ace. It’s all alot easier if you have a workstand to clamp the forks in.

Oh, and if you are hammering the SFN in by resting the forks on the floor, lock them out if you can, and be careful not to damage any adjusters on the floor.

You’ll have a great time (it’s only 5 miles ish from Les Arc). If you’ve not been to the Alps before, then the thing I found difficult to start with was tight switchbacks – there aren’t that many in Surrey, so worth praticing if you have some local. The riding is amazing and Sam and the boy’s will be happy to help with technique if required.

Even the days where there is a bit of uplift normally requires a bit of climbing, so you want something with a bit of volume but roll’s fairly well. I like the LUST tyres as they’re fairly tough and I think they feel better when running tubeless.

When are you heading out there – we are going 6-20 of July.

We are going to Bike Village (just up the road from Les Arc) again this year (can’t wait!), where there is a fair bit of riding up hill. Have taken 120mm Mount Vision for the last 3 years 2.35 High Roller on the front and a nice fast rolling Crossmark on the back (both LUST) and have found them a great combination – but that’s what I ride all the time anyway so am used to how they feel. We had one year when it rained most days but they were still good.

    Have fun.

Really sad to hear about this. We spend a great week with Chris when he was guilding at Bike village a few year ago – what a brilliant fun guy – we also managed to talk him into spending a day guiding in his skin suit!

My thoughts are with you Luke, Tom and friends and family.

    Donation made.

All the best with the race.

Does look pretty. Shame the stem sits on top of the fork – would be nicer if it was somehow incorporated into the fork.

You should try riding there too (in the summer) it’s awesome – just booked with Bike Village again – can’t wait. Enjoy your hols.

I think the older ones (IIRC) you have to tap in, the newer ones are threaded.

I used those yellow plastic things you get with shimano brakes to grip the hose (in some molgrips).

EDIT – I’m talking about getting the barbed fitting into the hose – I’m now not sure if that’s what you’re asking about.

The TV Times said it was going to be Sir Chris Hoy on Colin McRae – Part 2 of 3?
