He did appear to have a bit of a problem with his name when Chris Morris interviewed him back in the early ’90s.

You could always move the grips and controls in 20mm a side and try that. Would look daft, but it would mean you could get a feel for it before cutting them down.

I have one of each on my bikes. I’ve never really noticed any more drag with the 2.5 (I’ll be honest – I’ve never give it any thought with a front tyre), but it does feel better with the bigger volume and it does have more grip.

I’m afraid I’ve not ridden a HR2 for a long time so can’t give any feed back there.

If he’s the sort of person who wants to buy an E-bike, he probably not the sort of person who’s going to want to put much effort in. 😉

I’ve just had a Flow replaced under warranty as it had done the same thing. It would be worth contacting the supplying dealer.

My rear rim cracked after about 9 months – is currently being replaced under warranty by the distributor.

Thanks for all the updates Mike. Have a great time you lucky chap!

I’m going to get some nice snacks in, get up early and (hopefully) watch on the red button.

Would love to see Sam Hill do well.

They are great – seen them many times and have most of their records. If you’ve not seen the film ‘Dig!’, then that’s worth watching too.

Thanks Kimbers, that’s good news (sort of).

I found a very similar thing on my Flow MK3 yesterday, was going post a similar thread. They were built in October, so I’m guess are fairly early ones – anyone had similar with Flows? Sorry for the hijack.

That was rather exciting wasn’t it! What a save by Rach too!

I bought a Kangoo Maxi earlier this year which has a full bulkhead. I thought I’d only sleep in it a few times a year so thought I leave it with just the ply lining to start with, and see how I got on (having heard everyone harping on about condensation). I’ve already used it way more than I was expecting (including a week and a bit in Scotland)The coldest I slept in it was 4*C and it’s been great. A couple of sections of the roof have a light misting in the mornings, but not enough for droplets too form.

It’s my only vehicle, so I mainly have it empty or just have my bike in it and a box with my riding stuff. I’ve always preferred basic cars, and with the bulkhead, the van is at least as quiet as my last car (a C1!). Not having built in beds and stuff means I can still use it as a van if needed.

I use a fisherman’s bed chair thing to sleep on – it’s very comfortable and I can shove a couple of storage boxes underneath when going away.

I think if you’re going to use your van like this, you won’t need much insulation. A mate who has a much nicer, insulated and carpeted van (without a bulkhead), says all the carpet traps the moisture from wet bike/rider/stuff, so in the winter the van steams up all the time.

PS Vans are great – I should have got one years ago.

No worries Dunk. My email address is in my profile.

PS Don’t tell the others, but I don’t even own a Santa Cruz!

Normally, an insurer will look to write off a vehicle if repairs exceed 60-65% of it’s value. I’d speak to your insurer and explain that you’d like to save your van.

If they supply a hire car/van then this adds to an insurer’s cost can count against you in this situation. Don’t let the insurer take the van away from you (even to go to a bodyshop) if you want to save it, until they have agreed a repair.

When the insurer’s engineer comes to view the van, make sure he or she knows that you want to save the van. You should be fine.

Try and ignore them. You’re your own worst enemy.

Renton – you generally come across as a nice chap, but if people gently taking the piss on a public forum has this effect on you, perhaps forums aren’t a healthy thing for you.

If you do buy one then it’s worth making sure that the engine software is up to date. There was a problem with some cars lunching their engines (we replace a couple a year), but the software update addressed this.

There are pretty reliable, although like a lot of modern diesels they don’t like just doing short journeys.

They are nice to drive, but often have trim rattles which can be annoying.

Depending where you live, a lot of these cars have a fairly hard life, if own by the country set and often smell very doggy!

As above, mid 40’s and higher MPG is usually achievable.

Some parts are fairly expensive, but others are surprising inexpensive.

That drop test is pretty impressive! As is the bit where the truck drives over the logs. Shame they feel the need for the saucy ladies.

It’s also worth searching youtube for Stadium Super Truck street racing – racing completely inappropriate vehicles on tarmac (with big jumps), looks really tricky, but fun.

Should be another great year with so many amazing riders. I can’t wait for it to start.

I’ve wedged a small block of rubber between the Southpaw lever bracket and the brake lever. This stops the lever from rotating around the bar. I guess it will depend on the position of your brake lever in comparison to your Southpaw, but it works for me.

You can get a Kangoo Maxi with a folding (and split) extra set of seats. A nice little van to drive and economical/cheap to insure. Even a lanky git like me can comfortably drive it and sleep in the back (even with a fixed bulkhead). A fairly long wheel base XL 29er fits in the back with the wheels on too.

Most of the little 3 seater vans are really “2+1” seating.

I think someone makes a free hub which uses opposing magnets, instead of springs, to engage it.

Lease cars are a bit of a lottery. We lease all our courtesy cars, so they generally get driven by someone different every day – some customers take very good care of them – some pay the excess waiver and then delight in telling you how they had to wring the cars neck to “make progress”, when they bring it back! You could get one of these, or you could get one which has had one driver who’s looked after it really well. and done all those mile on the motorway. If you can find out who had the car previously, it may give you a clue.

I watched that Equinox thing (I think there are at least a couple of episodes on that engine) a couple of years ago – I was struck how they were happy to spend a fair bit of time showing really nerdy stuff. Nowadays there would be loads of false jeopardy going into every break, and an aim to make it entertaining for the masses.

I’ve being trying to find the series Channel 4 did on the Africar project – the last episode is on YouTube, but would love to see the others.

Not motorsport as such, but this is worth watching – a great story…

Impreza GX’s aren’t any more fun to drive than a Micra, will use a lot more fuel and cost more to run/insure. If it’s an older one expect it to be rusty in places too! We have at least a couple of Imprezas fail MOT’s, due to corrosion, every month.

Looks like a lovely conversion. Can I ask which Thule clamps you’re going to use to hold the bikes please, as I’m after something for my van.

Yes, I wouldn’t buy from them. A shop local to me put together an unofficial, mass start downhill race in an area busy with walkers – I no longer use the shop.

Jack – On the 111 (quite a short stroke shock) they told me the Monarch was the best bet (which is what I already had). This was a couple of years ago, so it may be different now with newer shocks.

I did ask TF Tuned about an Inline for my Process 111. They said it wasn’t really suited to bike due, to the suspension design (and the fact that I’m about 90kgs). Might just be worth checking with the experts first, if you haven’t done so already.

We all rode our bikes off road when we were kids, but thanks to Charlie and his buddies I’m still doing it as an adult.

    Nicely put.

Charlie – I often raise a glass to you and your buddies at the end of a great ride! Thank you Sir.

THM – The film “Klunkers” is worth watching, if you’re interested.

edlong – scotroutes was accused of being a homophobe as Charlie insisted he did it deliberatly not inadvertently.

Has he said he’s a homophobe? I’m fairly sure he hasn’t. What I believe Charlie is saying, is that “poo pusher” is a gay slur and that Scotroutes was jokingly inferring that Jamie was gay (For example – if Jamie had said he was going to push a bag of slugs through the letter box, SR wouldn’t have come back with a comment about him being a “slug pusher”, as the phrase has no meaning).

I don’t think anyone is suggesting SR is a homophobe. I’m sure if you read back some of Charlie’s and some of the other comments it will all make sense (they’ve put it much better than me).

As a gay guy that works in the motor trade, I hear all this crap all day – it doesn’t really offend me much, it just a saddens me a bit.
