I think it was gr 5 or gr 6 we rode a long section, truely an unsung gem, for info look at the Top 25 series of maps, we rode to Domme and then followed several tracks back to sarlat cycle lane, brill. Singletrack some years ago did an article on perigord north more wooded but great. Sarlat is great some areas a bit ott touristy but loads of undiscovered areas and most people did not mind us riding non vtt paths. Overlooked as cycling for softies but really good fun…………enjoy

There is a difference between the Ti and steel, ti is just better but cost wise cannot beat soem of the steel frames

Thanks Dave that is why I like and buy singletrack because I feel that soem of the testing is done by ordinary bods, possibly better skill level than me but not full time journos, I feel it is a more honest approach possibly mixed with a touch of realism of where we ride, northern grit and so on, I also like the fact singletrack still responds online and has kept integrity in the ‘product’. Long may it continue.

dialled bikes, either PA or alpine
coves stiffee or chamelon great bikes and been owned by someone in my family. I would not run a pipedream with a tall 130mm fork daughter has one and we found 120mm ideal for the frame.

Is there a place for the second hand mark buyers or those who buy later in the year… the sales, so for those people tests that do last longer than 6 -7 months would be invaluable.
Intresting insight into the world of magazines though

there have been poor reviews of things in stw, personally I think in general most items on bikes today are brill. slx shifters unheard of quality and performance 10 years ago, most bikes are good to ride people like certain systems more than others me horst link great single pivot not my cup of tea, vpp like giants but not santa cruz or intense, personal choice, disc brakes do what they are meant to, stop go stop go sometimes leak but great. So journos like some stuff more than others, so what I take it as an indication and then try before I buy wheer possible.

So I avoid fox forks why….bad experience when they first came out and now nearly £800 new sorry too expensive, been happy with old Mazs and newer RS, mind you my wife is still running a set of RS 100mm sids from the last century highly reliable and been chucked down several mountain ranges in the last decade. I ride with what I like and know so for me Maz, RS, Magura forks Shimano, Hope hubs, Magura brakes, easton, thomson, SDG, giro, dialled bikes bars,. all FAF stuff.

I ended up building my bike and my eldest built her own, we are mechanical numpties, got the bike shop to do the headset that was all, it was an education, frustrating at times but brill, all works and nothing has fallen off, cracked or smashed.

Get good cable cutters….no really good ones they are worth it

my daughter bought a torque wrench from Merlin cycles neither of us used it…….but possibly worth while…but we did not use it.

    Good grease….yeah get that………

    enjoy the satisfaction is overwhelming.

I also would consider the maritime alps, it was a real choice this year between there and Picos in Spain, partner won coz of the beaches

Me from that pic, I had it for sale before xmas and prior to the fat tread bike sale. Here is mine built up,

Due to injury only ridden it a few times and only twice off road, I recommend them, it is heavy so with z1 lights, slx groupset and very heavy hope bulbs wheelset 35lbs. Still playing around with the set up at the moment but aiming to get it down to 31lbs. Climbs well with forks reduced, steady and with traction, going down well outstanding. I ain’t no downhiller but have had a few big travel bikes buillt, turner rfx, ellsworth moment and I would say it is not quite all dayer as the ellsworth (that could be me as an not fully fit) but better down, and for me only second to my old rfx and then only just. The two changes I will make are a coil shock, I find the dhx blows through it’s travel too quickly and shorter stem, with the slack seat angle it is a long bike. I would recommend one if you want a bombproof long travel bike, quality is top though it is painted not anodized as it looks.

There was one for sale in the classifieds not so long ago. But Fat tread bikes were giving them away in the sale……….literally.

I woul like to try the el gaupo which replaced it, one was in the classifieds for 550 not so long ago.

    Great bike :D

if there weren’t enough folk applying for the jobs, wouldn’t they have to raise the salary to attract more? Does this just indicate that perhaps Social Work is “easy” to get into, or that it’s done by folk who can’t be arsed training for something more demanding?

er no, seems no one wants to be a social worker because a non intervention can lead to an individuals death……….it used to be 4 years to be a social worker degree…………more demanding……high stress levels protecting societys most at risk of harm………sorry but hedge fund managers and all the twonkers who have ripped off and lead us to financial meltdown as we a in a recession are overpaid doppers. J Ross his salary would pay for a lot of people in the caring profession. Sorry but I know lots and lots of people on less than the ave salary, seems out of kilter to me.

    revenue generating and isn’t skilled

first part disagree look at service providers and commissioned bodies, medical appliances, adaptations and so on………….second part incorrect, what we are saying is that to work with the most vulunerable and ‘at risk’ in a a life or death situation….see Baby P case or Victoria Climbie…. is not a skilled position is blatently inappropiate. Given the press clammer and even on this forum the debates over baby p it seems if you want to protect and safeguard then you have to pay better wages to attract people of the calibre to do that.

Hora if that was the case I am sorry as they possibly did not give the best service but if the service is to be better then pay more get better staff.

I am not a social worker but I am intrested in the disportionate salaries in our society………………long live capatialism……………….sorry isn’t it dead??

Really intresting thread…….but lets put in this one

approved social worker approx 28k per annum, able to section an individual or take a child into care dealing with safeguarding……….. underpaid or overpaid???

I am not a social worker but given all the issues of protecting vulnerable individuals it seems a low wage to attract peopel to a diffucult post
