Nothing to do with doug above, but from our experience it is true that it is one area where local knowledge is a must, Luchon and Prades we had great riding using teh map but around the basque counrty much harder.

Grinding up the hill……well see Mark Weir big bike lots of travel and so on, keep riding and get fitter, look at your technique and save money! :D

    or

    get lighter wheels as stated.

Personally i have had big bikes sadly now sold my titus supermoto, 150 /170travel 36lbs 2.4 tryes over a timed course 10 miles with one long climb road and off road bits was less than 1 minute slower than my yeti asr 25lb bike, the titus made loads of time on the downs and stuck in the climbs nearly killed me mind you.I have always liked the comfort of big long travel bikes but I think 6 inch travel is too much for UK around 100 to 140 is about right, longish fork and you are away.

I was bought USA Dirtrag, great pics in there again look like riders pics not necessarily professionals. I have always liked the Orange adverts with peoples bikes, possibly STW could look at a themed page? Alps trips/Mud rides/Race pics including before and after and so on. TBH one of the best articles was Chipps Go Fargo brill and then the blog on big mountains. Photo wise I think MR Barnes of Bogtrooters are excellent on the whole and Mr Simon Rallis on his recent advetures, they have made me smile no end! The Keilder 100s pics as well. They all have a sense of reality and a 'commmunity' element, I can relate to these pics more than some of the freeride gods one….outstanding as they are….not as immediate to me.
    Go on STW………readers pics….

I had a asr this may to go to the pryenees
    ,

good bike but never really liked it, for me forks at 115 ish worked best, weight wise 24lbs ish climbing was okay nothing special and descending was just okay. Before my enforced rest i used a Maverick ML7.5 far better climber and descender at 27/28lbs with Pikes, other choices for 140mm fork Turner/Chumba/Trance especially the older ones. For a very light build look at the chumba vf2

The durban corbieres is a great region, hot when we rode through and we were on the road,
perpigan down to spain could be nice and the TET valley

I rode the trails in june and I enjoyed them prior to doctors orders preventing riding, brillant trails but as with most trail centres they are becoming all a bit 'samey', recently went with a group of young people to Keilder and 7 stanes, I was not riding but acting as a backup but walked some of the trails, I really liked the climb at keilder not the drag of death to deadwater fell but the up and over rocky bits they looked great and in all honesty the young men found those harder than the woodwork. Any chance of incorporating some of those at Gisburn. Personally having ridden Gisburn lots I love the singletrack bit from, i will try and expalin, leave martin laithe barn and turn right pass the uphill junction on left carry on and turn right, singletrack leading to the bridge and up and over. For me that is brilliant slightly up and down twisty and flicky, rocky and rootsy and quick. For me it not always about the height gain but about the singletrack, for those locals some of the longridge fell stuff is brill (some is 'cheeky') twisty and smiley, could that be replicated?. For me woodwork is okay but not a fan. On the new Gisburn trail really like the red section after the woodwork with the rocks, storming.
My respect goes to the trail builders for a fine and wonderful effort, many thanks!
    ps great pics Mr Barnes

very very sad news. as a northern yokel I find tractors usually very respectful, what I hate are 4×4 drivers so often driving too fast and without care, earlier in the year a spate of drivers with horse boxes were the worst culprits for misjudging things, the final complication for me is carvans, blinking mare.

Personally AQR were brilliant, Luchon top but
try Prades area in france there is a company there not used them but the area is tremendous.
Friends have used riveria bikes highly recommended
