depending on price but i would recommend
wingnut packs, light simple and carries weight really low, loved by all that have them with good reason, i loved mine the only downer was when stuffed to the gills i thought it cut in a bit on my bad shoulder. This was propably more me than the pack.
Ergon BD with flexi link very heavy off not the best size wise but when on will carry 3l water, and all day gubbins with no problems, get the waist strap settled and then all the weight is centred on the hips plus you can move your shoulders and the link in the centre of the pack moves with you heartily recommended.
Osprey Talon I have the 33 ltrs and would say without doubt possibly the best pack i have ever used once you get it to fit, did the 3 peaks walk with it with all my gear and others and it was great. Got a 22 for biking but not used it yet.
Alpkit owned and used for day walks never thought to use on the bike could be a good cheap option.
For me I avoid
camelback range of packs, all sit to high and carry the weight poorly not distibuted correctly.good luck
hicksvilleFree Membernew to you second hand frame and skills course????
Skills course are fab with the right coaches, and there are some excellent recommendations on here.
hicksvilleFree MemberAt Gisburn personally i really like the singletrack on the red up from the river, into the woods twisty climb and the singletrack to the step, out on to main track and then short twisty section to river it is simply one of the best bits of red track. Well constructed, well thought out and just great. Ruined in places by riders wanting to avoid the rocks, or not following the track.
The crags are a mess but the materials were always going to lead to that but it has loads of potential, again i do not find the gully that wonderful, okay but other more singltrack bits is intresting.
Well done to all volunteers.
BUT after riding over to Gisburn on the road I was nearly knocked off my bike by vans owned by mountain bikers in a rush to get there, no consideration or manners………middle aged rant but it was intolerable used to the 4 x4's but hells bells you would think that people would understand and show fellow cyclists some respect!hicksvilleFree MemberHow are you defining all mountain??
Able to climb/ascend mountains, alps rockies llangeda???
Able to descend mountains??? pyrennes dolomites, apennines lee quarry?
able to pedal all day?? like 4 to 8 hours or chairlift to top
Weight of….30lbs/35lbs/40lbs/??
How much travel? Air or coil shock as that affectes things
personally then i would consider
Turner 5 spot dw
maverick ml8
old turner rfx horst link
ibis mojo
dialled alpine
chumba xcl/vf2
owned only 2 of thoseNOT (for me)
Bullit climbed like a pig with a bloated gut
Blur LT2 did not like suspension
Yeti 575…….felt compromised suspension
Intense never got on with the sizing
orange 5 or patroit not a single pivot fan at all dead wooden
owned all of the abovehicksvilleFree Memberas clubber said without spending a lot so around £150 to £190, but great suggestions if i had the cash
hicksvilleFree MemberHaving owned a joplin and a maverick speedball, personally not fussed with them gone back to a qr, part of that is changing my riding position and style after a skills day. I have found I can ride a lot more stuff now without dropping my saddle all the time.
I had no issues with either post mechanically and found the remote easier of the 2 to use.hicksvilleFree Memberokay numpty question but
i need something like
Stendec Crystal Fork Fluid
SRAM Red Rum
Rock Oil SVI Suspension Fluidor
Stendec Crystal Rear Shock Fluid
or anything else????
Also best way of measriung the amount???
hicksvilleFree Membercheers looked at that but cannot find maverick gunna flow lube so what is the alternative oil lube i need, and ideally something i can buy tomorrow from a lbs. Also there seems to be differenet amounts of oil used to tune the shock any simple advice on this?
hicksvilleFree Memberhe is fit, and solid his weight maybe more tha 14 st, rugby and rowing were his sports, i think he will end up doing what people have suggested but i think he needs to work it out for himself, he ain't listening to his family!. Thanks for the advice and help.
hicksvilleFree Memberhis plan is to travel to as many places as he can in the summer, france italy solvenia arc if possible so a season pass will be out of the question.
hicksvilleFree Memberlol Mr Edwards, it is based on his idea to save cash, after working all winter he wants to make his cash last he is taking the dirtbag approach to this excursion.
hicksvilleFree MemberClitheroe is fine, for young kids
tennis coaching brilliant
football wolves team has every age group from u6 to u18 anf used to have 3 girls teams *progression to burnley or blackburn acedemies)
small swimming pool
great library
Schools fab catholic st mikes and johns and secondary augustines, others include grammer and 6th form
3 small health and fitness centres
fell running well quite a lot really pendle hill from sabden, trough of bowland grindleton fell and then travelling wise yorks dales.
mtn biking gisburn a 10 mile ride away but limited bridleways, dunsop fell is good but not when it has been raining.Whalley nab, longridge fell
Villages well lots and the feel varies.
Town centre recession has hit home loads of charity shops and closures but there are 3 supermarkets including Booths tremendous range of bottle beers, homebase, the emporium (middle class wine bar but nice), bookshop.
There is a growth of BNP supporters but also counter balanced by other non facist groups. No more inbred than Todmorden and others, but you will need to live in the area for 10 yrs to be local but that is changing slightly mainly friendly and welcoming.
Train to Manchester 1hr ish Preston 20 mins by car Lancaster by car 40 mins
Friday and Sat night can be intresting but no worse/better than elsewhere, oh beer festival.all in all good quality of life crime low and asb not all.
hicksvilleFree Memberas i said it is for my nephew 19 yrs old and off for the summer to the alps, spending the summer out thereand only wants to take one bike which will cover going up and down and be reliable. He is 6ft and 14stone so needs to be robust but he is worried about the long climbs so wants to keep weight down but still sturdy, he will use 160mm travel on the downs and adjust for the climbs
Alpine is a great choice, as if the befe but anything else out there?hicksvilleFree Memberas forks get lighter, parts are lighter and more reliable, so 30lbs should be reasonable
hicksvilleFree Memberfair comment, it is for my nephew, he wants big travel and reasonable weoght. I think 32/34 lbs would be about right.
hicksvilleFree Memberone bike but 2 sets of forks and wheels……………light and heavy versions. Brill
hicksvilleFree Memberas above your cash your choice but I would have a look at as many bikes as possible ride as many as possible what suits you might not for me, there is a big difference in the suspension systems mentioned but for me have a look at second hand frames or those reduced. Ridden or owned a few of the bikes mentioned
blur lt2, did not get on with it at all, felt dead and wooden
turner dw great bike but still favour the horst link (sorry irrational)
Orange 5 never really got on with it….not a single pivot fan
Yeti overrated imho again never really liked the suspensionChumba good offer there, not ridden one.
Personal choices would
Giant trance fab bikes miss my old blue one, really involving ride
Maverick ml7.5 but even better ml8 a real marmite bike the 8 is the best climbing bike traction is incredible, on the downs on steeps it can feel as if it is pushing you forward a bit but once you are aware brilliant.
Titus had a supermoto great bike not as good as the maverick climbing better on the downs….have a look at the el gaupo a true all mountain bike.
HT DIalled bikes PA, great all day bike,Spend less on the bike, go on a skills day and then holiday
hicksvilleFree Membernever over impressed, shop around and you will find better bargins………
hicksvilleFree MemberIn no particular order
wingnut……hello Tang got there okay if a bit delayed  how was the test ride??
Ergon bd 2
osprey talon 22 or similiar.
the first 2 packs put the wieght on the hips…the wingnut is very light and the ergon frame is heavy and actual capacity small but tighten the waist belt and you can leave shoulder straps alone and the weight seems to vanish, with the flexi link the shoulders straps move with you. Suprisingly tough Highly recommended. Both fab
Osprey carries a lot of weight on the hips and is really good only had one ride on it though, well made personal choice for all day rides/light touring.
with all of them you will be to buy a bladder
hicksvilleFree Memberif you are strating with 20 mins runs great but add some sprints in their to begin with, tribalc is right in what he says, but you have to build up to intensity I would suggest, intense work outs are better see crossfit and gym jones. Mix up your training go to the gym, swim, run, bike, walk, box, martial arts whatever you will get a better all round base fitness and then target what you want.
Above all enjoy it and there is nowt wrong in going for a slow run now and then. :DhicksvilleFree Memberyeahran pace 100 130mm forks at 120 in pryenees last year no probs at all. Look on mtbr.com for others ideas.
hicksvilleFree Memberbuffalo jacket 19 years old
kona winter jacket fleece with pertex front panels chest and arms 16 yrs
easton cully flat pedalshicksvilleFree MemberMaguras………………..simply the best in my experince, used shimano/hope/hayes/avid…..will never never use avids again useless. Maguras all the way
hicksvilleFree MemberGreat bikes overlooked and misrepresented by the nay sayers…………..ML8 woulld be my choice only a 1lb or so heavier but far superior climber, and 6.5 travel. ML7.5 is great my old weighed in at 28lbs with pikes and hope xc wheels and slx kit. As siad the market has fallen away, but still a class bike, ML8 great trail centre bike or all day in big hills/moutains not a freeride jump off 8ft walls.
hicksvilleFree Membertry sigg bottle search, we bought one in cotswolds outdoors
hicksvilleFree MemberI would heartily recommend the pryennes older link here
http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/pyrenees-holiday-recommendations-bikingwalkingclimbingbut Luchon is great went last year see aqr hols very good guiding. I did a mix of road, and mtb just a tremendous area. This is the place I would go, big mountains good town good access to other areas if raining, just fab way way better than Morzine imho. Lift is open in town in the summer I believe but the ride to superbagneres is great, you have col de perysoude and then some nice trails off, port de bales is a great road ride, so many pryactif also operate in the area
The Basque country is also fab went there in 1996 Hondribba and then Biarritz area 2004 really developed now……..the guiding seems well recommeded. Try ST Jean de Pied that was good but we were walking.
The area around Canigou/Prades is my second spot just a great area with loads of trails and a well established VTT group who are really helpful. Loads of forest trails and stunning views, for lifts you need to go up the valley to ski station again another company in the area around olette i think.
Final place is ax les thermes and foix a friend used to live out there and was thrilled by it all, moved due to work, worh looking at.
All the places have good vtt signs and trails.
Try Luchon though, singletrack article somewhere on it!Enjoy
hicksvilleFree Membertry this one
this was the bloke
all details on there as well
hicksvilleFree Membertry usa ebay, bought one off a guy in montreal canada, about £70 still i think cheaper than the project 321s, easy to fit but check if you are using a carbon lefty as they are bonded.
hicksvilleFree Membera real shame, good manager of a team that plays football, talk of jack wilpshire going on loan in Jan guess that will be scuppered. Bolton are a poor one dimensional team and even with Owen Coyle have a poor side. I do hope Burnley stay up but they have a dire defence, really want Bolton and Blackburn to go down. Burnley play Bolton at end of Jan should be intresting.
hicksvilleFree Memberround longridge fell/pendle/trough of bowland all the fells are coated in snow and in places compacted ice, valleys were clearing upto today, no idea what gisburn forest was and is like guessing smothered
hicksvilleFree Memberwalked dog on longride new years eve/day icy patches and snow given the snow today would say unrideable
hicksvilleFree MemberI had a litespeed kitsuma ti, it was better nay different ride to steel, it was fab but so was the dialled bikes PA similiar and a hell of a lot cheaper. Some of the cheaper ti are no better than a steel or some alu frames, at the risk of being flamed as with all things you get what you pay for, so go for a company that knows what it is doing and is not in the process of change like litespeed were a few years ago. When i owned the litespeed i weighed between 14 and 15.5 stones it was fine but it was the bike that spawned a lot of hardcore frames.
Personally I would stick with a dialled bikes or a ragley steel, or go very customed ti but you will have a frame for a long time give your almost unique build.hicksvilleFree Memberah needs must for travelling,……………she can extend her volunteering opportunity and then travel after so needs the cash
hicksvilleFree MemberHora sorry what a few weeks old mk2 alpine for 50% retail……sorry  Hora you must be thinking it is christmas………….or are you auditioning for morecambe and wise special?????
hicksvilleFree Memberhello daughter has/for sale a mk2 alpine, used it for riding everywhere and thought it was pretty sorted, with 140mm thors on she thought it was better than her coves or santa cruz chamelon, very direct she descibed it as being,
