I’ve just spent between 20 mins and an hour near max heart rate, for the chance to sprint for the win, I am 100% standing and giving it my absolute all.

I’ve got two more here if you want to fault find those, one the fan speed is now always on low and the compressor doesn’t appear to run as it collects no water and the other the fan and controls work fine, but again it collects no water.

Try and cut it finer than this. My target is 500W off the line and I’ll sit spinning around 200W while waiting. Ramp to 500W starts slowly at 20s and I only achieve launch power 1-2s before the off otherwise you are just wasting power. I then throttle back as soon as I can and let others do the work will the excitement dies a little. If you are right out front from the start then ease off.

I just idle at 50rpm 100W right until 2 seconds then absolutely stamp on the pedals, it’s your W at 0 seconds that matters so if you’re spinning up 20 seconds before the start you are just tiring yourself out for no reason.

But even with say 25 in the group it’s so so hard to get anyone out, or get out the front yourself… So you end up just sitting there bored and waiting for the last 500m. (admittedly bored at a high HR) but it doesn’t make for exciting racing that’s for sure.

It’s a race with other people, if you want to win the race you’ll have to have some race craft about you and do something better than the other 25 in your example and a lot of the time that’s just being patient. If you could just ride off the front, would that be a fun exciting race? The group is whittled down over the lumps and bumps, whoever’s left at the finish has to sprint it out. If you can’t sprint then do some sprint training.

I know your advised not to put tomatoes on the de buyer ones, but having worked in a commercial kitchen they clearly ignore that advice and so do I. I’ve never had a problem with it ruining the seasoning or anything.

(I mean I’m not making a long simmered tomato sauce or anything…)

My impression of the DH track was that it wasn’t massively difficult but all the rocks are bigger than they look on the TV and if you go fast and get off line you are in big trouble.

I enjoy the “have you been in an accident” or “We are calling about the accident you had” ones, I like to start off simple in my explanation of the accident and slow get more outlandish. My favourite is 20 mins explaining a simple fender bender that injured my back, the vehicle that crashed into my car was a cessna. Took them a good 20 mins before question what kind of car a cessna was.

Or referring to the other vehicle as “the basket” throughout a long drawn out explanation of a slow speed crash which left my car very damaged and me with lacerations to my face due to the sharp wicker. The big reveal is finally stating the other vehicle is a hot air balloon.

OR explaining how you lost your leg in a bicycle accident but the twist is that it was a prosthetic leg and you found it moments later in a bush and re-attached it.

Whenever this topic comes up on this forum it seems that most people take pride in eating very little or eating anything that isn’t sugar, which is the complete opposite of my experience. Which leads me to believe everyone is different.

I’ve done loads of 70-100 mile road rides and when I first started doing that sort of distance I really struggled in the last 20-30 mile. I found that start eating almost straight away and eating lots of sugar was the key to feeling fine all the way til home. I’ve found that savoury foods that you find out and about; like pasties or pork pies etc. do more harm than good. I usually have some carb mix in my bottles, some gels for towards the end of the ride and then a mix of any other carby bars, nature valley, snickers, flap jack etc. cliff bar if I’m feeling fancy for early on.

Don’t know anyone with a positive word to say about it beyond, “that’s how I paid for X…”. Big Salary, usually some sort of no-tax agreement, usually housing provided, it’s all money straight into your bank, which is great but you don’t want to waste to many years doing it.

Seems like a perfect Brexit icon, marketed towards a certain type of person who thinks that’s what they want. The reality of it, is that it’s expensive, archaic, unrefined and generally just a bit shit.

Also very interested in peoples suggestions, it blows my mind that they charge £370 for the Thule Sapling.

Apparntly they use “CyTech accredited mechanics”. Has anyone heard of this? Are CyTech mechanics well regarded?

Isn’t CyTech the only accreditation of cycle mechanics?

Did you know that “Start Fitness” is a really big shop in the centre of Newcastle? With tonnes of high end bikes and parts in stock and a proper workshop with decent mechanics? It’s one of the few places you can actually go to see nice bikes in the flesh.

I didn’t, well I knew they were in Newcastle but had no idea what type of shop in might be, or what their mechanics might be like. I will say they were a pleasure to deal with and I’d happily buy from them again.

You can use a vlookup and a match function this video explains it:

I asked for my Santa Cruz Hightower to be sent straight on as it came from Santa Cruz, as I didn’t trust the mechanics at “Start Fitness” to be up to much. I had to build it from individual components, which was a surprise to be honest. I’d assumed Santa Cruz were doing some assembly. Think the cranks had been fitted and that was about it.

    100% agree with that.
IMO , it certainly outweighs the “what happens if you hit a pedestrian / bike / small vehicle” argument , as you are more likely to see them in the first place, and being a “bigger” vehicle, they should be able to see you easier themselves.
Probably jinx myself now, but i have managed not to hit any pedestrians / cycles in the last 30 odd years because…

    a) I don’t drive like a w****r
    b) I tend to look all around as I drive and try to anticipate what others are going to do.

Lets put big spikes on the front of all cars, those pesky pedestrians will take notice then!

I’ve never got on with cup and cone, maybe it’s being towards the heavier end of the scale at >85kg, maybe its the quality of the cup and cone hubs I was using compared to the cartridge bearing, maybe it’s being rougher on wheels? I’ve certainly tried different ways of getting the adjustment right and locking them down correctly, never had them stay as smooth and play free as a cartridge bearing. Replacing a cartridge bearing isn’t that much work given the correct tools, I’d say as easy as cup and cone personally. You can say cup and cone a smear of grease but with a cartridge its just popping the old ones out and pressing the new ones in, job done.

We’re at 6.5 months and sleep training has helped us massively. A little bit of crying has created a baby that sleeps through the night…..mostly.

Over the christmas period she learned to pull herself up and blow a raspberry at you. It’s amazing the pride you have at the smallest achievements!

f I’m totally honest because our biking lives has changed so much in the first I’d say 2 months both of us found it incredibly hard due to sleep deprivation, him having no personality and you feel like you’re just there to supervise a blob with legs…. I

I felt the exact same, but then they start drip feeding you things like smiles, giggles etc. as rewards!

My bike goes on the turbo sometimes, recently I was changing the brakes and unwrapped the bar tape down to the lever thinking I’d just reuse the tape as it wasnt in particularly bad condition. Once the smell hit me I got some new bar tape ordered immedietly.

Bought some S-Works ones for £180 which seemed absolutely mental but I’ve had them for a year and there is absolutely no wear to them at all. Will probably get 5-8 years out of them I’d imagine, makes them much more reasonably priced. At S-Works any better than the Torch, I’ve no idea, look nice though.

Problem with the thing using the lightning connector is it will redundant soon as they’re changing to USB-C. We still have a few clock radios with the original 30 pin wide Apple connector from the iPhone 3 – totally obsolete.

    You can buy adapters!

Theres a theory that birds wait until the last minute to fly off because the pressure from the car actually lifts them out of the way, so it means they dont have to both “flying” out the way, they just get pushed.

Some of you lot must be useless at interviewing people, “It says here that you robbed the last place you work at, at gunpoint. Fortunately for you I don’t believe in “predicting the future” and I firmly believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt. So lets give you a shot and see how you turn out. Oh by the way, can you remove the ski mask so we can get your work ID picture taken?”

Name a single thing any tory has ever done that improves the life of the less well off.

I’ve just bought the vacmaster fan after a couple of years using a standard 18″ fan like you have mounted up high. How does two work with the remote? Do they both recognise one remote or are the coded? Should probably have just bought 2 of the ones without remote and got a smart plug.

Just find the sportful product and click on the green square with “what’s my size?” next to it.

It came out with 2XL, so probably correct. What a useful tool, wish I’d known.

Update on sizing as I’ve tried the rest on now, the Supergiara long sleeve jersey and vest and also the Snap Jersey fitted in XL as expected.

It’s just the Sportful Fiandre Pro Jacket which was way way off. I could get it zipped up but it was probably 2 sizes away from being the correct fit. So far off I haven’t bothered trying the XXL.

    I’m a L in Rapha and XL in castelli. 193cm 87-90kg

The dark gold is not gold in anyway and is definitely just orange. As others have said sizing is way off on most stuff.

Useful to know, thanks. I’m between a L-XL according to their size guide in tops, so was erring towards XL. XL should be plenty, but maybe I need XXL which seems ludicrous for a 40″ chest.

Likewise, large should be plenty on the shorts (size guide says 34.5″ waist and I’m ~33″ waist) but wondering if XL would be better…..

Have you stolen my body? I’ve just bought a couple of jerseys and jacket in XL and now I’m worried I’ve got the sizing wrong. I’m L in Rapha, XL in castelli so assumed XL would be spot on however boblo is saying another size up from castelli?!?!
