I have one, we put in because we have storage heaters, which have no heat left in the evening, it's a mid terrace cottage about 150 years old, so no cavity walls to insulate, very draughty windows and external doors.
I find scavenge as much wood as possible all year round to get as much 'free' heating as possible, had chimney lined this year which was about £500 sweep £35.
Love it would'nt want to change it for gas central heating.

I've done it once in greece got a package deal and did'nt use the return flight as we decided to stay on Island hopping for a month, was'nt to bad but had to wait around all day waiting for a flight with space ( also seemed to infer it was a little illegal) only problem it was back to Manchester and I live in kent so had to hire a car to get home. But dont remember it being that costly the flight not the car.

I did the London Rat Race this year too, saw amazing parts of london never would have seen, along miles of canals through Epping Forest. Abseiling and kayaking all within the city (got sponsored entry which helps as think it was £75 ish otherwise) but loved it none the less.

Always lived within 10 miles of parents original house, apart from 3 years at uni, only an hour away mind you. All my friends still live nearby so why move. Parents buggered of to devon mind you. 3 hour drive or 7 take your pick, I'm not bitter though honest….

Your so called crappy A2Z maps are an aid to drivers and never have or will be targeted at non road travel, as footpaths, bridleways are only a representation of what is on the ground, any data is taken from OS mapping under liscence(licsense)

I'm just doing the same and have opted for felt with white chippings on top, the chippings are meant to prolong the felt life by about 10-15 years. Something to do with reflecting heat and light stops the felt degrading,
Or go for a green roof 40 years + lifetime I've heard

This has got me all worried, all my bikes hang from the ceiling unchained, and the garage door, has an old internal lock badly fitted by me, only the petrol mower is chained down and thats to the rowing machine, My bikes are not exensive, but they are the only ones i have and not insured seperatley from house/contents. Will be busy at the weekend I think…

Thanks for all your thought, really can't stay longer due to no holiday left this year and can't use next years (company policy), my wife also works evenings so with two kids, under 3, would be exra childcare or loss of £ due to her not working for those days.
I can sleep on planes slept the whole 8 hrs to thailand once. Will check out flight costs think that will be the deciding factor, I will have to resign myself to feeling crap for a while.
My best man (whose wedding it is did the same journey/flights in reverse to do the deed for me, although I'm only an usher for him.
