So my ability to be helpful is restricted by the realisation that my frame doesn't have the chainstay bridge… So it's not the same as yours… Sorry…

However on mine… there is easily enough room for a 36T… I'd hazard that it'd actually fit a 38T…

Try Switchplane – they start off at about £250ish for basic stuff and can do pretty much anything… Good service too…

I've got 34T on mine and that's quite tight but you might just get away with it… I could take a look at exactly how much space there is when i get home…

You're all marvelous people… Thanks for advice

I didn't feel justified spending loads and loads on a light for how infrequently I'd use it… so £75ish sounded acceptable…

But… If people reckon it's no good for proper off-road – what do you think is the starting price i need to be looking at?

    Ta again

Don't know what was there before No1, which was around from at least 2001 until 2007 when the Chop House opened… Not sure why a bad experience of an old restaurant puts you off the new one… Do germs have ghosts which can haunt restaurants? Must ask that nice Yvette Fielding from Most Haunted to investigate – that or the Mystery inc. team… (Daphne is quite fit considering she is both ginger and a cartoon)

As I said and to summarise:

    No1 = Bad

Chop House = Good… Mmmm… Suet pudding… Might be off there for my sunday lunch now… yumm….

Have a look at the clock on the corner of Bene't St, but don't eat in the restaurant opposite

Hold your horses there – you can't be talking about the Chop House – which opened up about 2 years ago in place of the old "No1 King's Parade"?… No1 was awful – but the Chop House is now some of the best food in central Cambridge… (unlike the Eagle… *shudder*)

Not sure how much room there is to park in Grantchester – but give it a go… Otherwise head to the Trumpington park and ride/cycle…

Whoever ^^ said you can't get into colleges in term time is wrong – that's only during exam term in May/June… During Mich term (now) they're mostly open…

+1 on the Rhadegund too – my old local…

    Enjoy

Bring a decent lock wherever you go and don't leave your bike for *a second* not locked to something… As you'd expect it is very bike friendly with a few places (like park street) that have very secure bike parking… The centre can be a bit congested with people so cycling through the market is a bit of hard work – you can cycle up the river to Grantchester to the south or up to Fen Ditton to the north, but not along much of the river in the centre of town as the colleges all back directly onto it…

Colleges are all open to the public at this time of year – but some charge for it – King's College Chapel is worth a look…

The Fitzwilliam museum is, as suggested, worth a look – There are also plenty of others…

Pickerel is a very good pub, as is the Free Press – or try the Eagle for history but whatever you do don't touch the food…

Ta for photo Elvis, tried that after you suggested it but it leaves a whacking great gap between the mudguard and the tyre whilst at the same time rubbing the mudguard against the frame… That can't be right surely?

I'm using an SRAM singlespeed crankset which only has one chainring position – so i could change to a different crankset and get better clearance – but that means buying a new crankset which I don't really want to do – like i said, I can live with this…

The mudguards not fitting that stupidly positioned little nub thingy is what has really pee'd me off… What's more, I've just discovered that the mudguard/pannier rack holes on the rear of the frame haven't been tapped properly… Not impressed anymore…

Thanks for other's help… Will be off to buy a new tap tool tomorrow and then play with bits of biro and felt pen tubing to get the mudguard to fit…

Oh… I just realised, my point was not actually just to come on here and whinge like a girl… Does anyone know of a full mudguard which actually will fit?

    Ta…

You credit rating is probably shocking if you've never had a credit card… Ironic…

Personally like my Virgin Atlantic American Express – some places still don't accept Amex (and I never use it for small local shops that I like because of the extortionate fee Amex charge shops) – but the airmiles scheme they have is by far the best on the market…

Hmm… Thought that there was enough space between the top-cap and steerer for it to tighten up… But looking at it again I've noticed the top cap has a recessed bit which may be wedging against the steerer… With another spacer on it appears to be working better – Thanks both – and appologies for such a daft mistake…

Oh yeah… While we're talking about Rabies – when I lived in Tanzania I shared a house with a few vets working on rabies control projects (where they run around all over giving dogs vaccinations…)

They always used to say that if you ever get bitten wash the wound straight away with anything that you can find, water, milk, beer, urine, anything – apparently you can physically wash the virus out of the wound… something to do with how it gets transmitted… Can really help lower chance of infection…

    Enjoy the mountain…

Kili is a big mountain with no villages on it, so unless you're planning on spending lots of time in the villages before/after climbing, I'd personally say it's a waste of money…

I lived in Arusha in Tanzania on and off for 2 years. As it happens I had left over rabies protection from jabs taken for a previous few months spent in Asia, so I just got boosters before i went out there… I lived in a very 'basic' area with lots of dogs running round all the time, and the only time I ever had trouble with them was when I was riding in some of the villages where there are loads of dogs running round all day that like to chase bikes… The dogs are only really in populated areas… So no people = no problem…

Get the train. A little bit of luxury once in a while won't hurt.

Please tell me that is sarcasm… Or you have a very very low opinion of what constitutes luxury…

Ahhh Mr. Tankslapper – it was the "Well done all" that threw me – Thank god…

Also the fact that the article you pointed to didn't actually say kids were getting brighter (even the to$$er from the Dept. of Educashun said it was because the government is better – not the kids) – so I'm afraid that I assumed you were just an idiot using it to prop up some bizarre delusions about your offspring…

    My apologies…

Some kid on TV this morning was celebrating 17 GCSE A*s, As and Bs…

…there aren't even 17 real fooking subjects – so doesn't that just speak volumes?

    Mmmm… Meat…

Had night in with a couple of mates a while back… We got this from the Butchers for 4 of us:

That'll be 4 steaks, 4 pork chops, 4 lamb chops, 4 chicken breasts, 4 venison sausages, 4 wild boar sausages, 4 pork sausages weighing 3.5 kilos in all…

and not a vegetable in sight…

I think half of it may still be in my colon…

Not big, not clever, but very tasty…

She wants the brakes and forks doing as they're rubbish… Hence my main upgrade options…

She enjoys going MTBing with me, and like I said – I'm sure that if her bike was a bit better than the current brakeless deathtrap that it is, we'd go more…

Kiwijohn – I'm starting to think that way…
