Wow… I go to the pub, come back and Hobo is calling me a prick for no particularly good reason… Aren't you classy…?

Thanks everyone else… Think I'll chat with the vendor…

Maybe you are making the house buying process more stressfull than it needs to be.

You've read what I wrote and you think that I'm the one making it more stressful?

    Hmmm…

They've basically said that if I pay them a grand for advice I can get for free, accept higher conveyance costs and go for a mortgage that they will recommend (which i know can't be as good as my current deal) then they'll take the house off the market if the vendor accepts the offer…

    Whereas…

If I don't pay them a grand, don't pay twice the conveyance costs, and use my current exceptionally good mortgage deal, I will have to pay for all my searches and surveys and conveyance costs, and in the meantime they'll still be advertising the house as for sale…

That sounds like a Great Deal for me…

They're definitely not talking about it being marked up as Sold STC – they want it to remain on the market and listed as For Sale pretty much until the day we exchange contracts…

All that is unless we pay them £1k for their "Independent Financial Advice" and then also use their in-house solicitor to sort the conveyance… (which is inevitably going to turn out to be twice the price my current colicitor whom i also haooen to trust…) In which case they'll take it off the market properly…

    Pah!…

I'll see your Staffordshire mud, your Chilterns mud and your Ledbury mud and raise you Tanzanian Block Cotton Soil during the rainy season…

Mud so thick and sticky that the bike won't move after less than 5 minutes because it has picked up half the hillside, and car wheel arches get completely full so that the wheels just stop going round…

Can I be first to suggest Cotic Roadrat with flat bar? Has 700c wheels and a mountain bikey feel on a roady frame…

I love mine… the nice chaps over at 18Bikes sorted it for me…

I voted for Bees yesterday… There is an ongoing and serious threat to UK bee populations which until very recently was largely ignored by anyone except a few academics… This is now beginning to change through a bit of media attention but mostly because of the work done by BBCT…

So … are your bikes male or female?

christ. Mine are just a collection of metal and rubber. They have neither chromosomes nor genitals.

Thanks for that Andy… I now have an unpleasant image in my head of exactly where a bike's genitals might be…

I really should change that ratio to reduce the spinning…

    Sure…

But first you should take some reading lessons because:

    1. Dirt bike magazine is for MX/enduro bikes, not mtb.
    2. Thats Wideopenmag, not Dirt.

Forgive my teenager magazine reference mistakes… I was making the foolish error of reading the name of the magazine from the bottom of the page… How silly of me to think they'd write their name on the bottom and get it right…

KFC – wiv tha yoof who used to be interested in eating food but now interested in preparing it. Voice over – "chicken delivered fresh everyday" print at bottom of ad – "Minimum Delivery 3 per week" Sorry which area of the country do they only have three day weeks?

    +1

I can't get over the fact that it isn't meant to be ironic when the kid goes on about "this is what it's all about" and "sure it takes more effort, but it's worth it" as he bashes two 'chicken' legs together in flour then puts a cherry tomoato on top of a piece of lettuce…

    Effort? Sweet mother of ****

Have no actual experience of them – but have been thinking about buying one of these[/url] for a year or two… price is putting me off (as well as my 15 minute commute through town, which doesn't seem to justify it)

Defo not urban myth… Deposits cannot be used to cover unpaid rent unless the tennant requests that this happen…

Deposit must be held in TDS if tennancy is newer than April 6th 2007…

    Helios

Whoooo there… Hang on a second… What is all this about giving up your deposit? It is illegal for him to hang onto it for anything except damage against the property/fixtures/fittings… It is not there to cover rent foregone if you end the tenancy or stop paying rent…

you deposit has to be covered by the protection scheme which means you get independent adjudication if you're not happy with him hanging onto any of your deposit…

try lubricating the cam now and again?

Yup do that fairly regular that, there just seems to be very little tolerance between slipping and overclamping

I do the same – but even then, I don't see how a bit of lube on the cam is going to stop the bolt shearing off…

    Helios
    Free Member

Well… At least I'm not the only one…

Mine's 31.8mm – so not the smallest size they do, I've managed to shear through the bolt both times without putting a huge amount of pressure on it (as I said – I hadn't adjusted it since last time the post came out and so can't figure out how it failed this time as opposed to last time i did it up…)

It was 3 years old in all fairness… But I'd still think it should last a bit longer…

I'm considering going back to a bolted clamp like I use on my single speed… But in a triumph of Hope over experience (see what I did there?) I might give them one more go with the new design…

Ol Doinyo Lengai in Northern Tanzania – one of the coldest volcanoes in the world

The crater at the summit taken a day after an eruption and a few days before it blew again:

Walking across the floor of the crater in the semi-darkness, crunching on the crust as we went is an experience I'll not forget anytime soon…

Ta muchly all… I've now twigged that in order to fit to the bars (charge slice) I need a 23.8 clamp – which I guess means CX levers… But i think these will work with mini-vs fine…

    It's all so complicated…

As you say Joe – they're pretty cheap so I'll give it a try…

i wish someone made some kind of extension bracket for this kind of thing, as i get the same problem on my current bike trying to fit a mudguard to 440mm long rigid forks. Current solution is a collection of zip ties.

I was going to cut up a bit of tin from a food can and file the edges smooth – cut to length and pop a few holes in – but decided this would look truly gopping…

Hence the drill and tap option – which handily should work well because of the frame…

    In answer to your question:

Can-Hen-Knee-One-(rabbit)-Stand-(randon fella from history) this Ball-locks-(scrooge)-(scrooge)

    Yes… I can…

But how the hell is a rabbit under a bed and some old bloke helpful to "Understand" and what has Scrooge (or Micheal Caine for that matter) got to do with things?

    Helios
    Free Member

    I had the same problem…

I did the big long bolt thing at the bottom too – this worked a treat…

However, having resolved the issue at the bottom bracket – i got one at the wishbone… The floating bracket on my sks guard was too short to reach the wishbone, so my guard is only attached in 3 places, which makes it r-a-t-t-l-e all the bloody time…

So I'm going to be drilling a hole in the frame in the nice flat bit where the seatstays meet the wish-boney-bit and tapping it so i can bolt a long piece of M5 thread directly into the frame and then through a hole I'm about to drill in the guard… All to be held in place with a few nice little nuts…

I just hope i can drill the various holes straight and in the correct places…

I'll post up pics if i ever get it done…

A doctor once told me you should only ever buy booze and food from places that have "saver" or "express" in the name.

Bet he buys his booze and food in Waitrose though…
