These days I need to be moved by music. God I'm getting old

Hell, no. Old is when you're admiring fretwork over the sound of your soul singing along.

Sorry to hear it. I'll keep a look out round Derby way.

arguably King Crimson were the most innovative. In fact I still listen to them, as well as Yes plus other assorted bands.

King Crimson were definitely innovative. Although I missed them in the height/depths of their 70s splendour I've long loved Gong, Hawkwind, various German 70s bands and so on. But never Floyd. Similarly, and more recently, Porcupine Tree. Technically magnificent but they just leave me cold.

After Syd they grew increasingly sterile sounding with pompous and self-indulgent lyrical pretentions. If the OP's correct I'm proud to be ignorant.

I figured that if the OP was bright enough to cut and paste a paragraph of the text then the URL would be within their reach. As no URL was included then I guessed that the intention was that we look at the text that had been quoted. As art, as a started for ten, well we were just figuring that out.

Between work, missus and kids I'm glad of the peace and tranquility that solo riding affords. The odd clanking noise, stone on steel, the buzz of the tyres, birdsong/howling winds/raindrops dripping from trees, clicking knees, it's a symphony of solitude. On unknown trails I take it easy, the better i know a trail the more i let rip*.

*Within the boundaries of my abilities, natch.

If you can remember where you live and can read the username next to your post then you will be fine.. pressing the buttons on the phone you will have to do all by yourself… sorry

Crap. I'll have to wait for my missus to get home then…

That's great news! I may need a new bike for it but I'll bear that cross when i have to 🙂

Moorways wouldn't be too bad a site – hell, it's 5mins from where i live – but I'm not holding my breath until building actually starts. There's plenty of time for DCC to get distracted by monorail plans and the like in the meantime…

Even though it's free to upgrade I can't really be arsed to either call up to link accounts

Yep, same here. That and I haven't a clue what my sub account number or whatever is. I am a lazy sod though.

Although I probably agree with the "concentrate on bikes for people who love bikes" outlook I did enjoy the interview a great deal – it was the first industry interview for a long time that didn't read like all the other industry interviews. As I read it NL was trying to think about mountain bikes in a different way at a time when thinking about bikes differently has pretty much come to mean a degree difference here or there. Which is refreshing even if I don't agree with all of it.

Mind, so far, I have enjoyed the Jenn Hopkins and Chipps articles more.

Hmm, the new one has reduced the goppy downtube *a bit* but it's still not doing it for me.

Plenty enough pressure if you don't use the 'shower head' attachment and only £20

Nice one cheesyfeet – that looks like it'll do the trick for me 🙂

The glories of Mark E Smith #665, courtesy of Drowned in Sound

The Fall are on Jools Holland's show next week.
Mark E Smith is the only artist in the history
of the show to have a clause in his contract
inserted to state that Jools will not play
boogie-woogie piano over any of his songs.

Thanks for that M-B. I like that thing on the Foxconn website! I just need to try and make a decision about whether or not I actually do want to go mail order or from somewhere local… Yep, I'm procrastinating.

Well in my past now but…

Never tried crack. Most other things: yes.
Best were (fresh) acid and opium. DMT *very* occasionally.
Worst was coke. Particularly other people doing it.

Seen many, many good live bands, but none come within a mile of Here & Now.

I'd rate Gong pretty highly too and -fzzzkt!- I missed them in Sheffield on Monday as I thought they were touring *next* month. Doh and double doh! Still, I have a workmate who's seeing them in Brighton on Sunday and he's said he'll tell me how good they are. Which is thoughtful of him…

    Sorry to hear the news.

As per the above advice regarding employment law and bomber postage but also try and find opportunities to gain access to their unguarded shoes. Keep your bladder as full as possible just in case the opportunity arises.

I don't think not being unconcerned about the law means the law doesn't apply to you.

Oh yeah, cos there's such a great history of corporate accountability and embracing the law in, um, everywhere.

Still worth keeping with: Siouxsie – her 2007 solo album Mantaray is really, really worth checking out.

From the past: Shirley Collins – the definitive windswept moors female folk voice or, from a very different tradition: Morita Doji. In recent years I like Sharron Kraus' and Larkin Grimm's take on folk traditions.

At the heavier end of things I love doom/stoner band Acid King's Lori S' voice – in the context of doom anyway 🙂

Also love Aqua Nebula Oscillator for an acid punk/garage psych hit.

Oh, and has no one mentioned the endlessly inventive Kate Bush?

all of which are protected in law.

Aha! I'd got to the point where I'd forgotten what I'd copied and was ready to paste for three pages or so.

I'd like to think that employment legislation was sufficiently well applied to obviate the need for unions. I'm afraid I don't think your average medium size+ employer will necessarily be particularly concerned about the law. If we could trust employers to act as progressive and employee-centred organisations then I'd accept that argument as it is, faced with a pack of ravenous hyenas, I can fully appreciate why the average employee might want to take a pitbull to the 'discussion'.

But anyone, hats off to stoner for having the decency to come out politically. It's okay to call yourself centre-right these days – it's nothing to be ashamed of. Some of the more liberal members of the Conservative party and the newer factions in New Labour have openly displayed these tendencies without much scandal. And by supporting a mixed economy like 90% of the population you've successfully distanced yourself from swivel-eyed right wing idealogues like the good Captain F. 😉

    But anways, bushwacked…what's happening man?

No, do go on, professor HeathenWoods. Im fascinated by your presumption about my politics.

Hell no, you tell me how a "free marketeer" is unconnected to any form of political ideology and how markets and political contexts are unconnected.

I tell you what, just to start with, what does "free" refer to? Free from what? Butterflies? Aardvarks? Saturn? I'm certainly looking forward to what you the market should – in your view – be free from which has no connection to politics…

    HeathenWoods

Im a Free marketeer. My economic philosophy is not tied to any particular political ideology.

I don't even know where to begin with this particular lollacaust but as long as you're happy believing it then that's cool.

I hope all is well for you Bushwacked and that witnesses weren't necessary.

That goes against the way ch is pronounced in every other Gaelic word.

No expert on Gaelic but it has dialects just as English does so any standard pronunciation is just an approximation of real world usage.

Brian Jones. The creative force in the Stones – unafraid to experiment musically. After he died they became just another rock band.

Hendrix. Needed to get his shit together again or he might have become a blues bore but… it would be great to know

    Another 67%.

Disappointing lack of meaningful questions: "When are trails cheeky?" "What threat might redsocks pose on a technical descent?"

Not sure what we're doing for the solstice yet – it's all a bit weather dependent and i'm sick of nob-ends digging multiple fire pits at all the local sites.

As for Christ Mass? Well, it's just me, the missus and our little girl with huge amounts of rich and tasty food – all in-lwas and out-laws have been banned. My boys are coming over on Boxing Day and we get to do it all over again. Happy times 🙂

Co-op has Jura for about £16 at the moment. Highland Park is a nice 'all-rounder' imo as well.

Yep, about to pop over the road and get a Christmas bottle of Jura.

Highland Park is a good bet though; I don't agree with coffeeking; I find HP a nice subtle malt. These boozers agree too.
