I’ll let you know how I get on with mine when they arrive on Monday :-)

In the meantime, you might find the sizing chart on this site useful…

I got some Bolle Contour glasses from http://www.nothingbutsafetyglasses.com & I’m really pleased with them so far. Comfy, excellent coverage, protection & decent clarity.

However I know I didn’t get them for the very best price as most of the online retailers charge about £4 carriage + £2 VAT which just about doubles the basic £6 price!!

Still its hard to find a better cycling glasses online for £12, so they’re still a bit of a bargain, I guess…

If you can make it a bit further up the A65, I’d recommend the Highwayman at Burrow(5 minutes off the A65 near Kirkby Lonsdale towards Lancaster) or The Plough at Lupton (5 minutes from the Crooklands junction with the M6). Great food at both, so worth the wait IMO.

OEM Continental Mountain Kings are truly, shockingly bad as you never really know whether there is grip there or not. Puncture prone too & I genuinely believe they were a major contributory factor in a crash last year that gave me a broken collar bone. A hateful tyre!!!

Great deal!! I bought mine last year for a lot more than that (sale price thankfully) but I absolutely love it!

I ride very similar stuff to you, by the sounds of it & its handled it all really well. Lively on singletrack, loves downhilling & capable of taking a real thrashing :D. A great all rounder.

Just upgraded the bars to 750mm Easton Havocs & it now feels even better :-)

Blimey!!! Those Trendnet cameras could have been really embarassing eh! American Pie springs to mind :D

I really like the idea of web access without special software or hardware. Iphone access would be the icing on the cake, but image security has to be top priority. Don’t want other people to watch me getting up to oily business with my bike after all, do I… :D

That looks perfect thanks! Excellent spec as many of the ones I’ve seen are either indoor use only, can’t record sound & video or have other limitations. It is a bit pricey mind you, but you do seem to be getting plenty of features for your money.

Mrs headpotdog might have second thoughts about shelling out that much on a camera too, especially when it could end up being trained on my bike. Still she doesn’t need to know that just yet, does she :D

Much of the religious content seems to be centred around music anyway, so I wouldn’t worry. Carol concerts are pretty pleasant things even for fairly hardened atheists.

Me & my mates used to swear by them as they were simply great all round tyres & nothing could really touch them for the money back then. Even now we still compare the newer products to Smoke & Darts as it’s pretty hard to find a tyre that’s pretty good at everything. Tough, large volume (1.95″ was big back then), good on rocks, didn’t clog too badly in mud…

Ahh, those were the days when biking was simple. None of this dry tyre, mud tyre, hard or soft compound malarky…

Until last year I was still riding a silver 1994 Orange Clockwork. Fully rigid with elegant curved forks & capable of a real turn of speed too. You just had to keep your wits about you or you were off, especially in the rough stuff! Loved riding it in the peaks, lakes & dales. A great bike!

Never liked the idea of using a bell myself. Salivating dogs are very unpleasant.
Love the idea of shouting “Ding Dong” though. Very Leslie Phillips!! Could put you at risk of the occasional slap for being such a cad though.

I’ve got an HTC Desire S & really like the Android platform. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that I prefer it to I Phone.

Brought up near Kendal. Went to Uni in Sheffield & really wanted to live near there because of the biking, but ended up getting a job in Leeds instead. Went rock climbing at the Cow & Calf rocks above Ilkley about 15 years ago & fell in love with Wharfedale. Met my wife in Leeds a few years later & after we got married decided to move to an area better for bringing up a family & I knew that Wharfedale would be perfect.
Been here ever since & it’s fantastic. Only an hour from my parents in Cumbria. Decent rides from the door & loads to choose from within an hours drive. Great people, good pubs & restaurants nearby. Leeds is only 30 minutes away, so city life is easily accessible when we want it too. It’s got everything we need. Love it!

I was on Tramadol after I broke my collarbone last year & in terms of pain relief it was fine, but I came off it as soon as I could, mainly because I hate taking medication of any kind. When I did I found myself becoming REALLY depressed, which is completely out of character for me & I truly believe that this was a side effect of this drug. If I had a similar injury again I would definately ask for an alternative pain killer in future.

Just bite the bullet & get platinum! It might hurt your wallet now, but it’ll still look good in 10 or 20 years time even with the knocks & scrapes of daily life. Haven’t regretted getting our platinum rings for a second.

I’ve just upgraded to Easton Havoc (750mm) & love ’em!
Loads of room to move you brakes & shifters in for one fingered brake positioning + computers etc so don’t worry about that.
I had some bars snap on me a few years ago, so I’d stick to the most reputable brands if I were you & for me they are Easton & Renthal. Wouldn’t quite trust the others personally.

12 foot Jump King for us. Kids love it, but the only complaint is that the safety netting has disintegrated after two years & now needs replacing. £80 last time I checked !!! 8O

Out on the lash one night in Sheffield I decided to give my flatmate a piggy back to the next pub. Then being feeling incredibly strong & athletic thought I could easily take one more passenger & so let her friend jump on my flatmates back too.

The inevitable then happened, as I was so top heavy with 2 women on my shoulders, that I fell forwards with both hands behind my back & took the full force of the impact on my chin.

2 inch gash in my chin, blood all over my shirt & 4 hours in the Northern General wasn’t the best end to the night, if I’m being honest…

The line was about head height ~5 feet off the ground, which was why I was so surprised & shocked. As you say, there has been some thinning work going on up there, but not that close to where I found the line.

The singletrack path I found it on runs on the edge of the Fell Park area & is parallel to the main (gravel) footpath going down to the chariot sculpture & boardwalk section to the pond/ Bramhope. The line was tied to a tree towards the top section of this path.

I thought that the scissors was odd too, but there’s no doubt in my mind that this was there to take someone off. Could just be kids messing around, could be someone trying to get someones bike I guess, but the end result still would be the same for a rider.

I’ve ridden that section of trail loads of times & at speed it could be hard to spot a line like that.

I’ve got some Shimano M087’s which fit really well, are reasonably stiff, comfy enough for all sayers & didn’t go over your budget. Can’t go wrong imo…

I’ve got XT’s & from a practical point of view they do absolutely everything perfectly. Sooo powerful & I haven’t got a problem with the modulation either.

The only reason for getting Hope from what I can see is that they look pretty. Not that big a deal for me I’m afraid.

I’ve been wondering about this recently too when I was installing new handlebars. Didn’t want to crush the bar in the stem.

Does anyone know a good place to buy a suitable torque wrench for bike maintenance? Hopefully not too expensive…

Yup, time for new bars I’d say. Snapped bars aren’t an experience I’d recommend to anyone.

I was told to avoid the small boards for my 6 year old & so I got her an Enuff board in the end. Specced the trucks, wheels & tape to exactly the colours she likes too & she absolutely loves it!

Looked at these myself last year & personally, I’d go for the 905 as I much prefer the spec.

Rebas, Hope hub, better groupset & brakes but best of all you don’t get those horrific Mountain King tyres! That little lot’s got to be worth £200 eh?

Ended up getting a steel framed Genesis (853 tubes, XT & Rebas) for a bargain price instead, but the Whyte 905 was definately next on my list at the time.

My bike had 30mm rise bars from new, so I’ve just upgraded them for wider ones, but with the same rise. Didn’t want to put too much more weight on the front as I liked the balance of the bike as it is.

Love my Genesis Altitude. Always a bit surprised that there aren’t more of them shown in this forum as they’ve got 853 tubing & very similiar geometry to frames like Soul’s too. Anyone else got one?Probably comes in around the 28lb mark now that I’ve added fat 2.35 tyres & 750mm bars too.
