I heard back from the shop I bought the frame from this morning. they want me to send back the frame so that they can check it under warranty. This would require me to strip the bike down which I am reticent to do unless its a last resort.

A mate suggested that maybe my seatpost is wider than specified. I am going to borrow a mate’s vernier later in the week so that I can measure it.

    Thanks everyone for your comments

If anyone has gpx files for any of these routes that would be great!

    What size rims?

Will the wide rims make much of a difference grip-wise to a NN/RR combo?

    Anyone still riding the Sync?

Thinking about a wheel upgrade for mine. Light bicycle 38mm carbon rims. Riding Spes Purgatory/Butcher currently 2.3s. Will these still fit?

I’m interested in a combo like this too. One of the things I like the idea of with wide rims us the possibility of more grip from lighter tyres.

I’m currently running 29er Sordh Purgatory/Butcher 2.3 which are fine but not the lightest. Not sure I would fit anything much bigger in my frame.

Interested to hear what others see running.

I messaged DT Swiss yesterday and am waiting to hear back from them. Will probably be next week as it’s the weekend.
Chinese companies do have a reputation for reproducing popular western brands (allegedly).

I know lots of forum members have bought from LB so thought I would ask whether anyone could confirm one way or the other.

R mac. How have you found those hubs? Do you have any worries that they aren’t genuine?

    HaydPD

So for my Kinesis Sync how does this sound?

    -Rims: 38mm width, UD matte

    -Hubs: Black, DT Swiss 240S J pull 6-bolt 15mm/12*142mm for Sram xx1 (32H).

-Spokes: Black, Pillar Aero X-TRA 1420 aero

    Any suggested changes?

Vivian at LB is telling me:

If you like hubs in 32H, you can choose DT Swiss 240S J-bend 6-bolt. Or straight pull center lock/ 6-bolt hubs in 28H are available.

What to do? Will the 32h be considerably heavier?

I have a Kinesis Sync and an itch for some wide, carbon wheels. I test rode an IBIS Ripley fitted with 941s and thought the bike and the wheels were excellent.

Has anyone had a set of 38mm LBs with the DT Swiss 240s hubs? How many spokes have you gone for?

Cheers for all of the replies!

Sorry for the radio silence – Ive been at work all day and getting stuff packed for the holiday.

Some great ideas there. I’ll get myself up to the area and and see what time I have. An evening ride with you locals sounds good and I have packed/charged the lights.

Would be looking for some Cross country / Trails riding – nothing too committed! Have pity on a poor, soft Southerner!

You’re right, he probably doesn’t. But he also doesn’t state how many people he knows with Yetis. Could be 1, 2 or 100. I’m betting it’s either of the first two though.

    This is getting good 😀

    Nevermind. Dont it.

I had to loosen and then tap the male end of the mounting bolts with a camping mallet to get the female ends of the bolts moving. I then used a mini ratchet and a leatherman to wiggle them the rest of the way out…

Thanks great tape. Just the job!

Damascus, the original levers are over 2 years old. Thanks though.

So there were no instructions with the new levers when they arrived.

Is it just a case of pulling back the rubber cover from the hoses, unscrewing and then screwing into the new levers – then bleeding the system?

    Thanks.

Maybe stiff isn’t the right word. Its more that they seem to have lost their “springy-return-e-ness”.

I will try a little lube and see if that helps…

As an alternative that hasn’t been mentioned yet, Sacred Gin is very nice. Especially their Cardamon Gin

The black/green had the CC shock too. I agree it was excellent. Swallowed up the bumps on, what was a very rooty course.

It was the Tallboy 2 not the LTC that I rode. It felt heavy and unwieldy compared to the Ripley.

Im 5 11 and the large fit me perfectly. I’d love one but will need to sell my current bike first.

My HT is a 29er so Im thinking I could maybe share a set of 941s between a Ripley and that bike too.

    Those wheels were amazing.

But the black/green bike wasn’t quite setup right. The stem was too high for me and the fox 34s needed some more air. They were very bouncy on the climbs. The black/green was a Mountain Trax demo bike whereas the blue was an IBIS bike. I felt the IBIS bike was setup much better. So it wasn’t really a fair comparison. That being said I enjoyed both demos.

The Ripley really didn’t feel like a 29er. It was so agile through the twisty stuff. It accelerated and climbed superbly. That became even more apparent riding the Tallboy straight afterwards which does feel like it has big wheels.

I’d say a great frame made better with a great set of wheels. The X01 werx build is £6.2k (gulp) so it should be good!

I rode the Ripley at the Mountain Trax demo this weekend. I tried the blue one with the Pikes / 941 wheels and the Black/green one with the Fox 34s/ Arches. I also rode the Santa Cruz Tallboy 2 C and the SC 5OLO.

The blue Ripley was by the far my favourite bike. The best bike Ive ridden in fact.

I have the same problem as superhopper now. Which Kidney do I sell?

    Hi there

I agree this sounds like a good idea.

Will the steerer tube on the fork be long enough? Will the hoses on the brakes? Especially the rear.

Apologies if this sounds negative, just trying to think of potential gotchas!

Thanks Ross. First proper test ride tomorrow around Swinley. Will try and take it easy at first to make sure nothing falls off it!

Will post some more pictures of the build soon.

I will check but I thought the limit screws were just for fine adjustment

As for the chain, I sized it based upon the instructions on the Absolute Black website. I will check it again.

    Could I try anything else?

    Thanks for the responses.

I think Steyning / Truleigh Hill look like about the right distance along the route.

For Steyning can anyone recommend somewhere to stay / eat

For Truleigh, if we stay at the YHA, where can we eat?

    Thanks

The B Labs chain ring is the direct mount version.
