i agree with the hire car idea . i have a girl working for me at the moment . she hired a car at belfast city airport for about £11 per day . to leave belfast and head north on the coast road ,through and past the glens of antrim , is stunning and a much better look at nornirelan than a bus / train through the middle of county antrim . there are also lovely wee hotels in ballycastle and bushmills to break the journey on the way to derry

the guy i ride with has a titanium frame with exactly the same damage as above two . he had the seatpost too far out .
is there any hope of repair / welding ? anybody tried ?

i think its a brilliant bike . i have a titanium one . i have used it to tour with 26 inch wheels , 700c wheels .road tyres / mtb or cx tyres : with panniers or with backpack . in all these guises it is very stable and planted on roads or tracks
the geometry has a long top tube so if you like to tour riding more upright then it may not suit , although as a trade off it is the ultimate singletrack weapon !
i stick on 100mm forks for xc , and usually rigid forks to tour

101 bike routes in scotland – harry henniker
the ultimate scottish cycling book – paul lamarra
both books were published 2003 – 4 ,but have an old fashioned feel, both give good routes in the highlands that can be easily extended .
from my own experience – cycling around ardnamuchin and mull are stunningly beautiful, and easy to access ; the island of arran is also a great starter cycling detination for a long weekend , and even easier to reach . to be honest both areas dont really need a guide book – just a map and go ! jura is also stunning , and you dont even need the map as its 35 miles road/track out and back !
