@ MrOvershoot. I’ve no idea where you’re based but there should be a local branch of the MS Trust and or MS Society. Both aren’t just there to support sufferers but also family members and carers. I’m sure you’ll know all this but please reach out to them. Your health is as important as that of Mrs OS.
If I can help in any way, let me know.
    Stay strong.

@ chvck. I had to stop MTBing while I was being diagnosed (early 2010). I could no longer get the ‘power down’, so switched to road biking. I did this for a couple of years but eventually gave it up. I’m affected down my left side and as such the pedalling, even on the slightest gradient was causing further weakness. I’ve thought about the ebikes but they’re not for me. My balance isn’t great and to be honest, it would frustrate the hell out of me. Living on the edge of the Lake District and having made fourteen trips to Ciclo Montana previously, may go some way to explain this. I don’t really miss it anymore, it’s part of accepting MS. As long as my former riding buddies continue to tell me where they’ve been riding and how much of a good time they had, I’ll take it.
    On you go…. :-

@ Mr Overshoot. Having just read your post, I’ve nothing to complain about. I hope you’re both getting the support you need.

@ chvck. These days my pedalling is confined to a spinning bike in the shed. Still love it though. Twenty minutes each morning is a great way to start the day. I can relate to the dismount for sure.
    Stay upright fella.

op, This is my ‘less dressy’ IWC Pilots Chronograph. There is a pic of the stainless bracelet version in the thread. The model is now discontinued but can be found within your budget.

@ FunkyDunc. I hear you but in that moment my principles had to go out the window. The care I receive from the NHS is fantastic and if my one private hospital appointment freed up an appointment in the NHS then I’m Ok with that.

Almost seven years ago I went to see my GP about a problem. After an examination she said a MRI scan was needed but the waiting time was very long (months). I mentioned the private health scheme through work. Within a week I was in Newcastle for the scan at the Nuffield hospital. The Nuffield checked the scan results and then referred me back to the NHS. The consultant at the Nuffield was the same man who looked after me for the NHS. The whole process saved me months of potential worry and uncertainty, for this I’ll be forever grateful. Turns out I had MS.
    Good luck Duane’s dad.

Four days with Ciclo Montana would mean having to make your own way to Fondales but it’s a pretty easy drive from Granada airport. Malaga less so. If you can stretch to a full week then transfers are included. It’s the most fantastic place.

@ Slowmedown. I too take Gilenya. It’s served me well since I started taking it in late 2012. Beats sticking a needle in your leg once a week. No more cycling for me these days other than twenty minutes each morning in the shed tapping it out on a spinning bike. It’s obviously not the same as riding Lakeland passes but it’s still great to be turning the legs.
I’ll be following your progress in July.

@ Cy. Good luck on the Enduro.

This thread disappeared almost without trace yesterday, so I’d like to give it a bump. I know that there are some among us who’s lives are affected by MS. Thanks for the comment slowmedown. Stay upright.

Chapeau Sir. It’s over six years since I turned a pedal off road. Still get the odd pang but living on the edge of the Lake District will do that. Donation made from a fellow sufferer. Good luck.

I’ve sent the link to an out of work drummer friend. He doesn’t ski or board but I’m sure he’s done plenty of ‘sledging’ over the years.

Thankfully I’ve never experienced any hostility or comments. The walking stick is a give away really. Blue Badge is a big big help.

I recommend a walking stick to go with the blue badge. Works for me. Or a Honda Civic. Not sure that Merc is available on the Mobility Scheme though.

Capt. Kronos makes good suggestions with those villages, also consider Thursby and Dalston. Silloth is lovely when the weather is good, great sea views and beach. Tourists will flock to the coastal towns in the the summer though. Fantastic from the door road riding if that’s your thing but you really need to be a bit more inland for off road. That said, you’re only half an hour ish into Keswick. Dalston has a secondary school although I’ve no idea how good or bad it is. Nelson Tomlinson has a very good reputation.

    Why Dubya?

I figure that the other four would give him hell. If W is busy then Steph McGovern can take his place. :-)
