I had that figured thanks :) as a direct comparison between this frame on 26″ wheels and 29″ you are correct. But.

If a 29″ specific frame is made in an effort to keep the bb height low then it may be lower than the 456 due to rear wheel position. On the other hand it may be the same/similar in which case a 29er specific frame offers no other advantage other than mud clearance. Make sense?

I was going to build a rigid ss 29er and have everything but the frame so thought I would try this for the craic. That’s all. I can’t say I noticed the increase in bb height but as I said not ridden properly yet.

Agreed mud clearance is zero but I have a plan. See above.

Ill take a tape measure to a couple of purpose built 29er frames and see how the bb height differs.

    Interesting though hey!?

    Yep, totally standard. 2.25 tyres.

I’m thinking of making up some dropouts (step dad can knock some cad drawings up) to bring the wheel back 25mm and the calliper above the frame as there won’t be enough space between as it is, to give some more clearance for mud, but as it is it works well!

Sorry, I’m a bit simple, (i’m not really) a compromise between what and what?

I’m 5’6” and have ridden a couple of Medium 29ers without any trouble but a small would be ideal. Height and wheel size have no correlation in my opinion. That Scandal looks good. If only they had some 16” frames in stock…

If I were going for a full suss the Salsa would be right at the top of my list!

Helicoiling isn’t difficult but you need to buy the kit which is £40 including the bit, tap and helicoils. The hardest part is making sure you drill it straight.

Rocket Ron’s front and back year round for me. Teaches you a bit for when it gets dry and fast!

In an entirely less Singletrackworld reply… (Nice one Rorchach)

Yes you will need a Hope freehub. Easy enough to service though, it’s most likely the grease has gone dry and the springs etc aren’t letting the ratchets engage properly. do a youtube search for how to service it.

I’m exactly the same weight and height as you and never managed to stop the rear burping at lower pressures. I had to pump it up so high that it negated most of the advantages!

I was just using Ghetto tubeless mind you so that could be the issue right there…

Keen to hear how you get on though!

As to the pressing baking tray issue – non stick 10 inch round for me with a sprung clip on the side to get the sponge out. All other trays are wrong and to be discontinued.

This is clearly a tin. Tin’s are unrideable unless the press tell us they are better.

I have ridden both 29 and 26 recently. My first go on a 29 was a fully rigid single speed and it was brilliant! so fast up hill, rolled over all the roots and rocks I thought might send me over the bars no problem and generally coped with everything I thought I needed suspension up front for. I was impressed. It was bloody harsh though.

Then I got a go on a Yelli this weekend and went for some fast times on various bits of trail I know well (Strava content beware!) and I went faster everywhere but in all honestly I was trying harder and it was a perfect weekend for it! It went over rocks and roots nicer (Not necessarily faster) and cornered well with predictable slides where I thought maybe a 26 would have washed out. This was first thing in the morning and was fun but not wow this is the future fun..

That evening i went and did the same trails on my 26 (C456) and was near as damn it the same time down everything, I can’t say I noticed much more harshness in ride and got to the bottom just as out of breath as the 29.

So in summary. I’ll most likely get a 29 single speed rigid for most of the riding round the surrey hills and hold on to the C456 for everything else.

    Not tried a 650b so can’t comment.

Fantastic thank you! I didn’t realise it was late in the summer, obvious I suppose…

We were hoping to avoid the summer holiday prices while we can but may have to adjust that theory as guaranteed dampness rather than the usual 50/50 alpine dampness wouldn’t be ideal.

It drives me utterly nuts! I can’t let my little girl run about on the footpath outside our house for fear of her running into or picking up dog crap! (She’s only 2)

Most people use it for their personal dog toilet and seem to have no problem with it. It’s Westcott to Dorking cycle path. Now they are putting fencing either side so it’s going to concentrate the crap between the fencing. Brilliant.

    I have 1 x 10 mixture of XT and X9 with Fox float 140mm hope/mavic wheels and it’s just over 24lb’s

Frame was £250 so I don’t feel overly precious about cosmetics athough I have put some heafty helecopter tape on the downtube and chain/seatstays where rocks tend to hit and heel rub.

Got this to replace a Cove Stiffee so I don’t feel that it’s harsh at all, climbs and descends really well, a little wondery on steep slow stuff going up but no surprise reatt with 140mm forks and a slack head angle. The cove was the same.

jambalaya, that’s a shame it really is! Bt it doesn’t surprise me unfortunately. If they have the time to write a note 4 pages long they have the time to to navigate around a few cars extra. As long as people are parking with due regard for other people, resident or not, then its ridiculous to get upset. However people are people and most find something to moan about, don’t understand it myself.

Perfect, TOLATA looks like some bed time reading for me… Thanks Zulu.

I do love a caveat, I’ll get in touch with a solicitor!

No kids her side, this was my first concern too! I want to get it done before that becomes a threat… in the first email stage at the moment asking what she thinks. will get my ducks in a row and say what I want to heppen next then stand back and watch the show :) (and start hemorrhaging money no doubt!)

I sure have, but I haven’t had a response as of yet. Just trying to understand how things work so I have an answer for her inevitable questions.

Would prefer not to try guessing what the situation is by presuming anything. Might be easier to stick to the questions. I have seen how these threads go awry with presumptions.

Fair enough, I’ll get in touch with a solicitor, just thought there might be someone that has been in the same position and know how it works.

These look like an absolute blast! We just need a place we can get hold of bits and bobs easily in the UK and I’m sure it will take off! (Metaphorically)

I’m constantly having this situation and have resorted to getting in the way deliberately to avoid it. It seems to be a case of the drivers just not looking far enough ahead to realise the traffic has stopped or is going slowly.

I’m in two minds as to whether it’s really worth it, on the one hand it aggravates the driver behind (who by the way I never see again once the traffic does stop) but it gives them more evidence to be biker non friendly, maybe just let them get those extra few metres by catching the traffic and ride past regardless as I would have to do with all of the cars infront anyway..

Hovering next to me is the real issue, that never feels safe. When drivers just overtake and get it done I’m much happier.

Either way, throwing stuff is not on!

Are you close to Bicester Village? I got a really nice suite for £250 from the Versace store, kind of goes against what TooTall has said but it worked for me.

It’s a good do it all grey suite that looks the part for all ocasions. I tried a few on from different shops and the difference was staggering! This was the best fit although i am kind of Italian shape, broad shoulders and slim hips.

Not 100% on the name but do a search for “Bikamper” these incorporate the bike with the tent and weigh less than 4lb’s. Not tried one yet but I plan to.

Fantastic! As soon as the little one is old enough she’ll be introduced to the trails! I have been recommended http://www.islabikes.co.uk/ for well fitting, well thought out kids bikes.

    Not ridiculous prices either.

Sorry, I realise this looks like an advert. I am in no way connected to Islabikes :)

I’m meeting Hora for a pint, comparing lube was mentioned, assuming it’s chain related.

Wow quite the number of sub rules! The what tyres was a good search! Minefield! I’ll stay clear of that and leave it to you experienced tyre types.

Toothpaste, I’m all good, the missus get’s what’s on offer, making decisions… depends, what do you know? Independent thought… I’ll ask the missus.

Are panaracer xc pro any good?

Marcus7, I rode my bike for a load of miles off road in the mud and crap and the chain got knackered, I got terrible chain suck and had to replce the chainrings and don’t get me started with the cheese like jockey wheels. Isn’t it all supposed to last for ever?

    Better?
