    IHN, congrats!

I suggested gardening leave, or just shortening the period, but as the sole metallurgist it’s good to have me on hand when a crisis begins. There won’t be any for a few weeks though due to the production schedule.

Are there any reputable/ certified Rhino 3D CAD courses online that I could follow?

A Perfect Circle – Eat the Elephant

I didn’t like it at first. It is a bit different to their other stuff and the recording of By and Down seems a bit dull compared to others that I’ve heard. But, I saw them live earlier this year and they played many songs from this album. I’ve liked the album since!

“If she’s got an interview, chances are they already think she’ll be able to do the job just fine (they wouldn’t waste their time speaking to someone they weren’t sure about.”

I had an interview with a F1 engine supplier a few years ago, for what I believed to be a tribology role. I’m a materials engineer, but pretty heavily biased towards coating development and testing and the CV screams that. The job spec must have changed, as they interviewed me for a staff metallurgist, with a heavy focus on magnesium, and was told that they don’t need a coatings materials engineer. The interviewer then followed by asking questions about Beryllium metallurgy, which is redundant in F1!

I can’t believe they were sure i could do the job.

But, fingers crossed for your mrs. Best advice is to be prepared and enthusiastic, even about the most monotonous of tasks. Hope it goes well.

pick the breed well, and then pick the dog based on temperament. People can be overly precious about leaving dogs alone.  The trick is providing enough mental and physical stimulation for the dog, so they don’t develop unwanted behaviours/ habits. When she was a puppy, i was unemployed which meant that she was trained and watched! I couldn’t believe how much pee a small puppy can store!

I have a dog walker coming mon-fri, who can also do evenings when asked. We pay for an hours walk about midday, however she is usually with the dogwalker for a lot longer.

I went to a wedding where everybody wore black. It looked like a funeral. It was also in Finland, so the atmosphere was funeral-esque!

If you’re slim, get yourself to Tiger of Sweden (https://www.tigerofsweden.com/gb/) . They also sell their suits on zalando, etc. I have two Nedvin suits in grey and navy. The fabrics are good quality and the construction is well above what you get with next, m&S, etc. They are also durable and can be dry-cleaned.

my first engineering job was in an SME. I reported to the directors, who were all called John, except for the MD. Each one of them  had the willingness and time to help me when I had a problem. Looking back, I regard the managers who have made themselves available to help their staff as being good managers.

The worst managers have either micromanaged me to a minute, or been completely absent like my PhD supervisor!

pushing the bike up a steep bridleway along a quarry, riding distance from Bakewell. Pages from a really dirty 80s pron mag were ripped out and in the hedgerow along the bridleway. There was a page every 10m or so. It was like i was following a trail of pron, featuring very hairy ladies.

When we got to the top, a group of young girls (DofE group) passed us, to walk down the trail. They will have got an education!

At the top, of the bridleway we found a big mound of stuff, about a metre high. As we got closer, it turned out to be a pile of nylon knickers, bras and stockings.

We checked on google later. It was a prime dogging site and we had found the “marked trail”! Who goes dogging in a quarry??!!

Yup. If you’re in London/ SE/ SW, get in touch. My ideal ride would feature a pub halfway or at the end.

I’ve never been before! I used to live in Helsinki and most of my friends/ colleagues have been there. I’m looking at a long weekend

a relative of mine was persuaded by her mum to take a Geography course over an Art course at Uni, because “geography is more employable”. She dropped out of Geography during her second year as she didn’t enjoy the course.

If she was encouraged to follow her passions, I reckon she will have got a degree.

OP – If daghter has a genuine talent and passion for the subject, encourage her to excel at it!

I had a set of hope vtwins. I suffered continual sticky pistons, leaks all over and couldn’t persuade a bike shop in London to rebuild them. If you want mine, you can have them for postage.

I switched to BB7s afterwards. Much less faff

OP, just do it. You’ll learn something new.

Alternatively, if your company is looking for a metallurgist/ tribologist/ surface engineer get in touch. I would love to work for somebody who is willing (and able) to develop their staff. I’ll happily take your place on the course ;)

i saw darts on C4 the other day. I was very surprised! In terms of audience, it must be…

    1. Football
    2. F1
    3. Rugby
    4. Darts
    5. MotoGP
    6. Cricket

For the OP, any question about cricket and other sports should be referred to this man…

i’ve had a tg1 and now have a tg5. The tg5 has been everywhere. My only gripe is that the batteries don’t last as long for the tg5, so make sure to get a spare battery.

After I destroyed the cheap hubs and freewheel on my Langster I went for GoldTec hubs on Mavic Open Pro with a White Industries freewheel.

The WI has had new teeth once and new bearings twice. The hubs have been re-rimmed once. That’s in about 50,000 miles though. The first set of wheels lasted 20,000 miles or so.

They weren’t cheap but the hubs are absolutely bombproof, the freewheel is lovely and it’s nice building your own wheels. They’ve been faultless. I reckon I can get another year out of these rims then it’ll be time to re-rim the hubs again.

    I did this, nearly.

Goldtec front and rear hubs, DT Swiss rims and a WI freehub. Bombproof.

munrobiker, i’ve flown from helsinki to riga with a touring bike. We didn’t even bag it. They just wheeled it onto the plane.

However, the baggage handlers at Helsinki are complete apes. If it’s packed, it’s wrecked ;)

bought a liteville 301 off here for about £1400, iirc. I built it up, took it for a quick ride and crashed after 2 minutes. I went straight to A&E.

Since that, I’ve never felt comfortable on it. I’m glad i’ve tried it though.

i moved back to UK 2 months before the brexit vote, doh! I didn’t want to come back to the UK, but the job was too good to turn down.

Gf is french and we both have itchy feet. Belgium, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, US, Aus, NZ and Spain are on the cards for us, mainly for language proficiency. After spending 5 years in Finland, I’ve learnt that I need complete language fluency to settle in a country. This rules out any of the Slavic, German, Nordic and Fenno-Ugric countries for me.
