are the chainstays rigid (i.e. the only movement is due to the frame bending), whilst the seatstays are connected seatpost via a shock?

If so, surely there’s a strong case for failure about the weld between the BB and chainstay? Unless they made it from warm cheddar cheese..

right, i’m getting 2 sets then. One of the XC or XC/AM, and the more DH orientated then.

    thank you for your advice,

i've never been to a trail centre, despite my parents living about 20mins from Dalby. I seem to spend most of my time between Peak District and North York Moors, there's too much good riding there for me to want to go to a TC.

Where's good? That i can take a train to (or very close to atleast..)

    check this out. http://www.bikemagic.com/ride-features/snowdon-stupidity/4702.html

If you're not doing it in the middle of winter, huge gales, icicles growing off your face and brake pistons freezing into position, you're not 'core enough..

nah, my merlin is great but not that inspiring on big stuff, and the marin weighs more than John Prescott. And it's not as pretty as him too

thank you for the updates guys! SigmaF, we'll come give you a call this week and arrange a trip down (just in Hilssbro). I've heard that their sizing can be a bit funny, so best to try before i think..

sounds fair enough. If you want to try a bike, ask a mate or a stw-er. The bike shop shouldn't stump up for it

orange crush would be perfect for him. I heard that they sold out quite quickly though? If anyone has one for sale let me know!

looked at mmmbop and blue pigs, but compared to the 456xt build, it isnt quite worth the extra effort of building and sourcing parts.

I'm pushing for a p7 though. What is the difference between the pure7 and the p7? I see that pure7 is more similar to the early p7's. I've never ridden one though,.. can anybody impart some pearly wisdom?

hmmm, i think you'll be overbiked in the peaks. However, that doesnt that doesn't me riding a marin quake with lyrics…. and a DH spec components… out in peaks on a regular basis ;)

it was just the two of us, but he's a triathlete so he really pushed me. The first 100 were difficult as we were in a pretty hefty headwind/ storm for the large part of it. But the second part was easy peasy!

I still think i'd struggle in a hilly place though!

yeah, 7hours sounds about right. It was surprisingly fun, sprinting over the bridges and winding through forest roads. I'll probably do it again

ride was fantastic. Although 200 is certainly my limit for now! We averaged about 28kph :) The speed wasn't that fast… i'd rather be averaging 32kph and get some decent ironman training in the bag though…

bravohotel9er.. dutch girls arent especially pretty, but compared to lincolnshire (close to Norfolk) i see your point!

I'm in Eindhoven at the minute; predictably working for Philips

alright Si, this is Rich from SUCC. I'll be back home (Goathland, not too far from Thirsk) in september and wanting to go ride (Dalby??).

Plus, there's the Birch Hall Inn in my village, … with 'special (locals only)' beer

simply the best upgrade for XC. I started with M122 shoes and XT pedals, a little bit racey but after taking a quick blast through the Peaks i got used to it very quickly..

M122's were very cheap on the CRC sale(s),.. go have a goosey gander.

strange that a 24seven DH hasnt been mentionned. I haven't got a picture of my old one, but here's a stock…

i loved the bike, but i accept that it's made of the finest scaffolding

you could stay at my parent's B+B in Goathland, after you visit Dalby. Plus, there's some pretty good 'cheeky' riding, a great pub (Birch Hall) and you get to meet my dog!

call 01947896185 and ask for Rob or Michelle

i run into ex's all the time. It seems that my type are sheffield hallam design under/postgrad students and they are a tight knit group. Best thing is to cut off all contact and try something new…. (i've got a date with a girl from Eindhoven Design Academy instead now… :s )

i just want to add my support to the suspension design. I remember being told that in the 90s and early 00s they had the reputation of being an 'accountant's' bike… fair enough! If they're uncool, it means that they're usually cheap second hand!

i got my quake 7.3 for £350 and i love the bike. I run a 1×9 set up, but i think a double is ideal for the wolf ridge and the quake. I recommend getting some U-TURN forks or similar too (i have Lyrik solo airs which are hard work when climbing)

if you take a cab to Nirmals on West Street, you'll enjoy it. Not sure if they're open that late but they're one of the best.

    get the lamb massallam

look at GT too. If you're after a FS wid about 6'' suspension look at the GT Sanction on PaulsCycles.

Although it wouldnt be fantastic for regular commuting, it would be good for those downhills

where's good to get a cheap bike to commute on? I'm hoping to see some about wilhemeina place/square/street (?) on fri and sat, but the only offer is something from a guy in an alley for 5Euro…

    …bad karma bargain potential

for me, the rural posties (north yorks about Whitby) have been fantastic. One guy even plays with my dog in the garden, running after an alsation is pretty ballsy for a non-family member!

but, in sheffield they're atrocious. I have had many items left outside my door (including a 'signed for' £400 crankset) with no answer, items lost at the depot and lazy posties who can't be bothered to carry my parcel. I appreciate that working conditions have gotten harder and managers are a PITA but it's not on.

Final bit of my rant, my housemate worked at the royal mail place near Forgemasters. He saw workers throwing parcels against walls and floors. They even put letters in bins. Bunch of cowboys

perhaps a few of our established Uni riders could partake/ lead some rides advertised from your shop? Regular thing starting and ending up there with coffee and cakes at the finish?

http://www.weridebikes.co.uk is the website for the University of Sheffield Cycling club. We're looking for new sponsors, race alot and need a good local bike shop to be affiliated with. Ask for Henry who is the new club captain, he rides a Yeti on the WRB forum (yetihenry)
