We could all just accept that there are a number of different answers to the OPs question based on a fair few variables……fitness start point, length of ride, use of motor etc etc……

It could make you less fit.

    It could make you fitter.

It could just vary your type of fitness from anaerobic to more aerobic etc….

    🙂

OK – so Rekon Race tyres so light and fast. FS though – good effort!!

Nice read NRE – what bikes / tyres did you use as you seemed to try gravel and off road options?

Nice couple of little descents in there, yes.

A chance to pop up past Coombes Wood to the Black Harry Trail would be finish it off nicely 🙂

Looking at the ‘classic’ C2C and as a couple have said it seems to be a 60% gravel / 40% tarmac mix so should roll fairly fast.

It looks like there are ‘proper’ off road options along the way but we wont take those as some will be on road / gravel bikes – or at very least fast rolling MTB tyres.

I will take a look in the booklet @ Alston.

Jonba – cheers for the Strava – is this sticking to the C2C route in full so I can steal the gpx?

Is Rookhope to Parkhead a long section?

    Cheers

Quick bump on this as it was postponed last year and we are bringing it back to life for September this year in aid of Spinal Track.

Struggling to decide on 2 days or 3.

If 2 days…would you stop at Penrith as this is close to half way…..and perhaps more than half of the tough stuff if the last 35-40miles are largely downhill?

Anybody with some thoughts on this please?

I go the KickR Core a couple of months ago – replaced a Tacx Flow thing which was terrible.

Signed up to Sufferfest and it’s all great so far 🙂

Yup – single activity (running or cycling) DOES do miles…..mixed sport does not. You also have to record any walks as a run for your activity to register 🙂

Will go with the manual updates as suggested at the start. People doing less = more likely to get involved / not be scared of tech. 🙂

    Cheers all.

Yes – just trying to find something less manual.

But that methodology seems as sound as anything 🙂

I have found ChaseTheLadder that seems to be some sort of solution……

No – only tracks time, and not distance…..

Cynical – not all riding, and not altogether, so nicht.

Any thoughts on Sufferfest on here?

I just got a KickR Core and think it seems pretty good.

Tried Zwift for a couple of goes but didn’t like the HCI of it.

I’m not into road riding or mega-data analysis – just have a ‘I’m I better than I was’ mindset.

Did the 4DP and had a couple of rides thereafter and the process seems improved as a result of this. Choosing ERG or level is the next conundrum BUT I found they have a chat of when to use what that covers this…….

I’ve gone Putoline. Don’t really find it a faff.

Only lasts 2-3 rides though – and thats with a waxy top up.

Its just so wet at the mo!! 😀

I am persevering though to give it a fair crack.

The less viscous lubes like viking just seem uber messy for application….CBA….putoline better than these option imho.

If he would like any advice or someone to talk to then I can help with a contact who runs the Spinal Track charity and continues to race cars since her accident many years ago.

A waxy top up must be a reasonable course of action too though!?

Not convinced I will be able to ‘feel’ this….but will try it……

What about the wax lube top up idea? Sounds plausible?

I think I am going to stick some tru tension banana slip stuff on as its a water/wax mix.

That will do if I can be bothered to ride in the morning…..else I will re-putoline and then use this tru tension stuff as a top up when it is very wet out……

Went back to the bike today.

    Turbo during the week 🙂

Chain is rusty all over (inside of links NOT outside)

So do I call it a failure….try again? Accept its only for summer time? Accept that when it minging it just needs doing again (now that it is set-up it is not that much of a faff really)…..

    Worst thing I ever bought.

Rough feeling from almost day one….even after a repair.

Some great deals in there, for sure!! 🙂

So 43 miles on the old railway lines around Matlock and Bakewell……bike is back and rinsed off…..chain looks clean…..lets see if its rusty in the morning!

Certainly sounded like crisper shifting for the first half of the ride…..then mud took over and graunchy…..but no more or less graunchy than it ever is when there is that much gritty mud and autumnal mulch!

    5 more mins.

    It’s black. Wasn’t expecting that.

Or to have to fight the tin to open it.

170 in cheap fryer is probs not 170 so hopefully it will come out ok.

No frying sounds though, quite underwhelming.

There are lots of putoline threads on STW 🙂

This is Putoline 23.0 Covid Edition

I read that that wax transfer will then help keep crap of the cassette….happy side effect?

Cool – cheers for the top tips.

So am I sticking a new chain in white spirits first??

Will it matter that the cassette and chainring have low level dirt levels on them?

Close to plugging the fryer in…..

How long do you fry it for?

Assuming its up to temp (I think I read 170 degrees)….how long in the fryer?

    Thanks

(it will be a new chain as existing oily one is ‘stretched’……)
