I think financial education and specifically retirement planning should be taught at school. Little and often over a very long time make a world of difference.

Think I’ll put together an email with our concerns.
For questions above, they surveyed the property and recommended this membrane. Naively I went with it but on reflection it makes complete sense that this will just move the problem. Anyway there are long slits in it anyway so useless. They have injected something into the bricks at the bottom but unsure how effective this will be.

To also answer another question above, we do have a log burner.

Yes that is exactly my thoughts. I’ll invite the boss round for a look to highlight the clear issues. I don’t want them back in my house papering over cracks again to be fair.

It would be nice to think it would be as simple as saying jog on but I fear a backlash and I am unclear on my rights of withholding payment. Any help on this side would also be appreciated.

    Regards

As above, never too late to start a pension. With tax advantages any spare savings it should be the default option.

Thanks, if water were to be running down the chimney would it not show higher up the breast or in the room above?

How do we pin point the source?

Thanks all. So I assume a proper survey to identify the source?

Kicking myself as went with a trusted friend recommendation. Hey ho, worse things happen at sea.

It is brick. Yes I wish I could upload pictures but struggling.
The plasters was bulging and flaking around the bottom of the chimney breast.

I’ll see if I can upload some pics…

Not sure it is coming down the chimney as our bedroom above shows no sign at all?

Thanks again, it is comforting there are strangers out there trying to help me.

Someone suggested a “slurry” mix that could be painted on.

Do I get a second opinion then go back them or complain first to the boss? To be honest I don’t want them back in my house.

When I say gaps they have cut a hole round where the plug socket is. My plasterer said this should be plugged? Also the membrane has a large gap at the bottom and exposed brick can be seen. It hasn’t been wrapped around they have cut the membrane and just stuck to each side of the chimney breast so half inch gap on all sides.

    sigh

    Hi

Thanks for the help so far. The chimney is internal and no drone or ladders used to my knowledge. Chimney is live.

For example the membrane has been cut between the bead so clearly moisture will get through.

Feel a bit of a mug but they were recommended by a trusted builder.

Thanks all. They’ve not asked for the balance yet but I fear that day soon.

    regards

Good start but I can’t imagine anything he’ll say will change my mind about paying him.

We had a young lad move in across the road. His folks had bought him the house and were obviously wedged turning up in their Austin Martin and Bentley occasionally. The house was a revolving door of ladies of the night and drug dealers.

Travelling in Thailand in 2004. Few days before Christmas deciding whether to go Ko Phi Phi or Koh Phangan for Christmas, literally flipped a coin and chose the correct island to be on Boxing Day.

Often wonder what would’ve happened if it had landed on heads.

The guys missing out on Nirvana. Ouch.

I went to Uni in Manchester and regret not going to more gigs in early 2000.

Made the choice to buy a house well within our means 12 years ago. During this time income has risen and I’ve considered upsizing a few times but it is times like this I’m so glad we didn’t.

Cold bath Brewery for a nice pint and Gianni Italian is next door. We go there often for food and beer.

Little Ale House is lovely for some really nice beer.

Valley Gardens is nice for a wonder to work up an appetite.

Tannin Level has been around for years and is always busy. We are going on Saturday night!

Needless to say we went to the DBC. After all this we had a Mars Brookie and not a butty! Dear Lord it was sublime. What a set up that place is!

    Thanks all

About 110% for the year. Very pleased with that as the expectations have gone up considerably. Got a great team of very well trained lead generators which makes my job easier. It has taken a lot of effort to get them there but it is paying dividends now.

We used to go to the Pizza Hut buffet on a School lunchtime and eat a grotesque amount. Can’t remember the amount of slices the record holder ate but it was outrageous and we nearly had to carry him out. Obscene.

Bloke at work said “if I ever win the lottery I’d organise a Perspex block with a million quid inside and get it dropped off in the car park. I’d then sit on it and tell people to go away as it’s all mine!”

Clearly thought about this a lot! Oddball.

I was heading towards Stump Cross caverns over the bridge and some poor guy slammed into the mesh fence right in front of me coming the over way. Not a nice sight, fortunately he was part of Fat lad at the back sportive and there was lots of people around. I had to climb up to the top of the hill to get phone signal. Air ambulance job but I believe he was ok.

I lived in Oz for a year but it was never going to be permanent. Loved it but as mentioned above I did miss the changing seasons which I love about the UK. Something to look forward to at every time of the year.

I’ve had two close mates emigrate around 10-15 years ago. Apart from WhatsApp group we’ve seen them maybe twice. This is sad and I do think they miss home but they have a life out there and I doubt we’ll see them again.

I like the UK it does have its issues but I think things could be a whole lot worse.
