Nice one thanks all for the replies. I think he is into a multi blade/tool. I’ll have a look into all mentioned. Cheers

I’m 43 and I’ve never ridden one. I’m sure I’ll get one in the future and I’m cool with that.

Those that are already retired would you have saved harder on done anything differently if you could wind back the clock?

Thanks. I’ve a heart rate monitor, what sort of heart rate would sweet spot be (max heart rate 183). Or perceived effort.

    Thanks in advance

Jonba that is a very good point and a few have done this at my work. I will certainly do that at some point probably in around 3-5 years time.

43 here and my main drive for work is to make sure I retire early. I am very focused on pension contributions but it does bother me this is locked up until 58. As I get closer I’ll focus more on Isa and hopefully bridge over to 58 with using ISA and or low stress job.

That’s the plan anyway but it does concern me I am wishing away the next 10 years.

Thanks all. A friend had suggested going with these guys and getting them to build something specific rather than off the shelf?

    What do we think?

Thanks all. I asked the two girls and they picked the football! Unbelievable and a winner, all are happy. Thanks again.

cosy? Seriously? I can say, quite honestly, I haven’t seen one in use for around sixty years.

    Brilliant!

I did it one year back in the day and I did 30 miles on Christmas Day. That wouldn’t work now with kids. I had to do 100 miles on the last day and remember cycling round in circles close to home. It was pretty grim.

That is shame and I hate to tell you it is one of the most sublime feelings in the world. Probably better than Heroin or a threesome.

Just found this spot which looks good. On the way back to our area.
Original Fisheries in Bramley. Anyone been? Gets good reviews.

    Thanks by the way.

Yeah I know it goes against the grain but I’m with kids who won’t eat curry. Thanks for the pizza recommendation. I’ll have a look. 👌

Yes this is my fear. And yes I should’ve checked for confirmation but this was my error. I probably will have to just suck it up.

Another contractor I know is 57, owes £275k on an interest only mortgage on a £300k house and also has no savings/investments. Even more scary!

    That is beyond scary.

    How would you enforce this?

There is a new build estate that is being built on the edge of Skipton at the moment. It is on a really steep plot that runs right down towards the river which has just had flood defences erected. They’ve had to put in loads of stone and metal to create a wall to stop the estate sliding into the river I presume. Either way it looks precarious. I just wonder what they’ll be like in 50 years time.

I know nothing about building houses but it always amazes me how quickly the new builds go up. Surely that is not a good thing.

Still a lot of unravelling to come as fixed rate deals start to come to an end. Spoke to someone today who said “we’re going to have to downsize when our deal ends.” This is early next year and I suspect many more throughout the country are putting feelers out now.

That L’Eroica looks lovely Doverider. Did you do the full 200km in one day? I’ve a friend who lives in Italy so this looks a perfect fit!

Like it how the thread has morphed into nice areas to base and ride.

    Thanks

I did The Sella Ronda bike day this year. Closed roads to motor vehicles and it was absolutely stunning and highly recommended.

I’m 43 and never really thought about a midlife crisis. Just made a promise to myself to go on one cycling trip a year and I’ll be pretty happy.

Just an update for anyone interested. Met with the boss today. He was very apologetic and agreed with all my concerns and offered to solve it and start again effectively. I explained we have lost confidence in the company. We both agreed to shake hands and go our separate ways, he is going to scrap the invoice.

Very amicable and happy with the result.

Yep that’s what I thought. He seems a reasonable chap and has already organised a meeting to discuss with the bloke that carried out the work.

    Thanks again

    Update.

So I’ve emailed the boss with our concerns. He’s left me a voice message explaining he is really disappointed and that he’ll send another team round to rip out what has been done and replace.

My issue is, I’m concerned about this company coming round due to issue above. Plus as mentioned above and by two other specialists that their solution is incorrect and we should be considering a slurry mix instead of the membrane.

    Any help would be welcomed.

I’m 43 and there is no way I could do my job until 60 it would break me. I’ve given myself 7-10 years and then I’ll drop days or lesser role. This goal motivates me to keep going when it gets tough.

I would love to be able to afford a mini retirement (career break) to go travelling but getting back on the treadmill would be hard. To be honest the thought of retiring gets me through my day at work. That in itself is pretty sad.
