There’s a guy on Ebay sells tiny rare earth magnets for 99p plus post which you just glue on. They’re so small you can barely notice it. Just search for cycle computer magnet (you’d probably worked that bit out!)

You’re right Jason – I’ve got 113mm axle with a 73mm shell and tolerances are too tight. was thinking I’d got something wrong – so may try a longer axle.

For value the Passat is pretty difficult to beat. My 2001 100ps one has done 202k miles and is fine mechanically (touches wood quickly). Still on the first clutch too – amazingly. It may not be the most exciting to drive, but you can enjoy getting the most out of any car.

Without wishing to diminish the attractiveness of Snaps’ lush RS7s, I would personally avoid the black ones. I have one set black and one natural – and the black ones have rubbed quite badly whereas you can’t really tell on the others.

Yeah, me. Been on the bike 4 times since the last one, so I’ll be, er, pacing myself. :?

Currently 16th in Vets, mainly because I’ve done two races and many have only done one.

I think you’re describing the right route, but it’s not called Hameldown – that’s the big green climb (or descent, obviously) on the Jay’s Grave side of the hill from Grimspound.

That one down to Manaton is indeed a classic. Lost a camera down there somewhere – fell out of me pack.

Don’t try sticking it in a pan of boiling water like I did – it **** the seals.

For me, the saddle needs to be tipped ever so slightly further forward. Otherwise very nice indeed.

Bit of a fraud ‘cos I haven’t started yet, but planned minimum once/week commute:

Where: from near Cheriton Bishop, down old A30 into Exeter Southernhay.
What: Sand PX Kaffenback, mudguards, flat bars with barends.

Yes, that’s the main point of Stan’s. Some tyres are better than others – and Panaracers are not recommended IIRC – you need to have a look at the justridingalong website.

Sorry, ‘bring tough tyres’. Blame toughpaul.

Is it just me or does chunkypaul’s pic headed ‘bring chunky tyres’ look, er, rather full-on? I’ve been thinking (probably dreamworld) about Mega, but that pic looks out of my league – the rest is stuff I can rationalise.

Frankers – I’m very sorry to hear that they are not coughing up. It was my address the forks were supposed to be delivered to (I was not the buyer in case anyone wants to know) and I have sent them back the claim form and detailed account of what they failed to do. In my opinion, and clearly I cannot prove it, their original delivery driver lied about trying to deliver the package. My parents were staying at the time and were in all day both days of the claimed delivery. We have an extremely loud front door knocker and they heard nothing. More to the point no card was put through the door to say TNT tried delivery so they have absolutely no case to defend in terms of service. I spent quite some time trying to find out where the package had got to and the TNT staff were entirely unable to tell me what happened or where the package ended up – in fact they seemed to have completely accepted that once off the radar it was lost and there was no point making any effort to find it.
I will not be using TNT ever again and hope you can get some joy on this.

Certini in Plymouth were doing deals on Tracers at below list if you paid up front – i.e. not interest free. They were doing list on interest free.

All gone up by £200 now though I think…

There’s quite a nice retro 531 Rourke road bike on Ebay at the mo’.

Back in the 80s, WhichBerk? had an article on drillled vs non-drilled motorbike discs and interviewed various pros and manufacturers. The conclusion IIRC was that for your average road user undrilled discs were better because they cleared the water quicker – precisely because of the issue Nicknoxx refers to.

But all the fancy road bikes had drilled discs because that’s what the punters expected. Nothing new there then.

Well there truly are some humourless f*cks on here.

My favourites are the double episode: The Secret of the Unicorn/Red Rackham’s Treasure, and I always liked the Tintin and the Shooting Star too.

I’ve never ridden singlespeed, but there’s nothing too serious at Haldon on the marked trails. There is a steepish hill in the middle of the red run but it’s do-able in the middle ring so you should be fine.
