I taught there for a year.

    QE?

Main riding spots covered above. Haldon is nearest but fairly steady if you don’t know where the off piste is.

I’m also careful that it doesn’t get scratched or dented

Keep it out of sunlight too.

Can someone tell me what an “unfavourable speed pocket” is please?

I thought it was something to do with billiards.

For a comparison and to underline my point of a lack of joined up thinking we are no longer permitted to put organic kitchen waste in our compostable bin. It has to go into putrescibles and thence landfill. That’s a practical demonstration of Manager A saving budget but offloading the spend on Manager B.

    It really isn’t.

It’s a heady mix of local petty politics, poorly qualified managers, and a unionised workforce that has evolved a culture of poor motivation / jobsworthyness.

There is probably an element of most these points affecting many councils although you don’t need a union to be poorly motivated or a jobsworth.

The bottom line is that councils have been chronically underfunded for years and for many it is approaching crisis point to the extent that with reduced revenues due to Covid some are at risk of actually going bust. Councils are not going to be able to take financial decisions that make better sense in the bigger picture – it is going to be about the bare legal minimum and we will all suffer to some extent.

I would not trust any main dealer

Pretty much this in my experience. I would never use a main dealer unless it was for a recall. I don’t have cars new enough to need to keep a warranty alive though. At nearly 5 years old I’d be taking it to an indy but I guess he’s stuck with the dealer now.

Baxter is a great coach and has the right attitudes IMO

Agreed. I think Scotland’s captain’s improvement and newfound maturity is largely down to his move to Chiefs. 😀

According to an online calculator at the 1.5mbs we have here it would be similar to the OP’s download time – 4 Days 21 Hours 27 Minutes 0.61 Seconds to be precise.

Supposed to be fibre broadband coming in the autumn…

I absolutely loved Robinson Crusoe when I was a kid but like a number of the books referred to, I liked them when first read/I was younger but can’t get on with them now. On the Road and Catch 22 being two of them but also as non-‘classic’ I tried re-reading some Flashman books and they were just dated dross.

Books I felt were rubbish rather than just not liking them were 50 Shades of Grey, The Da Vinci Code and most recently the autobiography of that bloke from Eurythmics.

Met my now wife on a Carrick DC NALGO booze cruise between Truro, the Pandora, St Mawes and Falmouth. I like a short picturesque cruise but one of those advertised multi-day ones looks like hell on water to me.

This is different. While the garage may or may not be a curtilage structure the effect if it were would be to require PP (not LBC) for works that would otherwise be PD. Replacing the doors isn’t development and the structure itself is not listed.

Is my take anyway. Agree, no harm in asking although it may take forever.

No I don’t think you do. But check any conditions that may have been imposed on the garage consent. It’s over 30 years since I worked in development control though – someone with more up to date experience may advise different.

The bottom line is that all these GDs are given lots of dramatic spin for the telly. If those timbers could have been retained they would never have got listed building consent to take them out and I’m sure that was known at the outset when they bought the place with LBC for the conversion.

As per comments above, I thought they did pretty well to do it for £300k as those floors looked like oak structures, not softwood.

Overall though I thought more Escape to the Country than Grand Designs. Good on them for rescuing a knackered listed building though.

^^ love that Oak Green GTI – I always wanted one that colour. Had a Jade Green one with the machined version of those wheels and then a bit of a scabby dark blue one.

I’d like a mint version of my first car – Mk4 Austin Healey Sprite – basically a Midget, and a mint Mk2 Golf GTI. However, I’m in the fortunate position of having a car I’ve always fancied – cheap and cheerful but a great drive. This car, but a few years after this advert after it had been standing a while…

Very good point. I’d pay for the repair if fond of it.

I guess options are pay someone like these guys £107 for full service and repair, or buy a cheap (probably non-solar) movement and do some fettling yourself.

Has it had enough light to stay charged? Maybe stick it in a bright light for a few hours and see if that does anything?

Anyone else struggling with the watch love at the moment?

I’ve only got three pretty basic watches, two of which are quartz but have just gone back to my Seiko Sarb017 Alpinist after a few months of not wearing it and it’s just such a nice watch!

Pretty much if you’re lucky but it mainly comes down to clearance of the chainring and d/s chainstay.

If you can manage that with bb spacers then fine, provided you’ve still got crank clearance on the nd/s, and don’t need more than three spacers in total in terms of bb axle length. I have two boost frames with old style cranks and they are fine albeit both are very tight (sub 0.5mm) for chainring clearance.

Edit: what I suppose I’m saying is that not all frames are created equal and you won’t know until you try it…

Gutted when I saw this on the news, partly because he is a local as well as national hero. As much as I hate to say it i am a little peeved at Reading all the digs at Boris on social media for his statement. Yes he is a lumbering knob gorilla and the pandemic has been grossly mismanaged but let him say his piece about some sad news

I think the problem here is that when one is a proven habitual liar and lack a shred of integrity, people tend to assume that one is cynically seeking an opportunity to be associated with a decent human being.

    And they’d be right.

I went in 1985 and was blown away by the speeds up close – and they’re a lot quicker now! What was sobering though was the row of pulverised road bikes on the quay the day after Mad Sunday when we got back on the ferry. Quite possibly placed there for maximum effect but it certainly made me think about the ride home.

The hand over the tap thing will come in handy when you find you have an airlock after draining the water from the pipe and then turning things back on.

Oh, and the valve will be a lot more expensive than you expected.

I believe chilblains can be a symptom of COVID. I had one for the first time ever last March and did wonder. TBH I put it down to early morning lockdown rides in frost but bit of a coincidence.

If your son paid for the parts and hasn’t been reimbursed then he still owns them. Potentially difficult to do, but he could just remove them from whoever’s cars they’re now on – or threaten to.

I have the Iberital one (which I got s/h on here), but I generally end up using the same beans week in and week out plus only ever use an espresso machine so never change the coarseness. It is a PITA if you do.

It works entirely to my satisfaction though.

The Griff lives in the garage and he only gone once this year. But I need to get the bikes out of the way.

Noted you’re limited for space but there’s no way I would be hanging bikes where they could fall on the car – and I’ve only got an S3…

Rooster records in Exeter, for example. Nice shop, very good selection of stuff, but bloody expensive.

Hah, glad it’s not just me thinks that.
