Lyriks are definitely worth the upgrade but it has to be the u-turn version IMO, 160mm everywhere would make the bike very cumbersome on anything but the downs. The lyrik also has a better damping circuit which helps with my lack of ‘finesse’……. the Pike feels like it gives up on long rocky descents and you seem to get bounced around a lot.
I ride in the NE of Scotland and tend to ride big long climbs followed by long descents and the u-turn lyric suits this perfectly.
They do climb well, but you have to spin the pedals. If you stamp on the pedals in granny ring the chain feels like an elastic band!
It’s definitely good at descending. If you ride rocky trails you may find that the fork becomes overwhelmed. I’ve replaced the Pike with a Lyrik that I run at about 140/150.
The linkage plates have never been an issue for clearance. If I wear knee pads they will touch occasionally.
The warranty seems to be good……..I’ve just had the 15 month old bearings replaced free of charge.
I’ve had mine for over a year now and have no intention of replacing it.
If you watch mtb videos whilst on rollers you must concentrate or at some point you will try to ‘follow’ Gee Atherton round a corner and ride clean off your rollers 😳
If you get it again get to the doctors as soon as you feel the signs and get them to give you anti-virals, they will stop the shingles in their tracks. Well, that is what my doctor advised.
Mine started like yours at the back of my head, but then progressed down my forehead and towards my eye. If it gets onto they eye it can scar it and mess your vision permanently.
I feel for you as it is seriously painful.
Why would you buy something like that and not even start it?
If it has no life left then you would run the risk of a catastrophic failure. The rotative components may be about to ‘let go’.
If there are other vipers still running then the non-lifed parts may be valuable. All the housings, cases, vanes etc. may well be perfectly serviceable……with a lick of paint
Similar bonfire type story but with a smallish pile of garden waste……..wouldn’t light so I gave it a dash of petrol, stood well back and threw a lit match……..the small pile exploded and I lost a lot of body hair on one side.
It turns out the petrol I had been using was my mates high octane race fuel for his TT bike. I did wonder why the lawn mower was revving so high and used three tanks to do the lawm……he wasn’t best pleased as it was about £70 quid a gallon. Oooops.
My mate had also nearly burnt down the rented house we were in following a similar incident with coal fire. We had to replace a rather burnt carpet!
• You may have items on your order that are currently not in stock • Bikes take a little bit longer as we want to ensure they arrive with you in perfect condition, and so will take the time to inspect them before delivery
• Custom wheel builds will not be same day dispatch as we’ll take a little bit of time to build and inspect them
• The availability of one of your order items may have changed from when you purchased – if this is the case we will be in touch by email to help you find an alternative
Looks like you pay for a check when you buy from CRC.
I do check things over myself, but don’t see why I should have to.

What munro said. Been riding full suss for about 15 yrs and would check ALL the bolts on a new bike at the start, then after a few rides in case anything loosened off. Why lbs offers a free 1month service, a simple once-over with a couple of Allen keys which you forgo and accept responsibility for when you buy mail order.
Would you check every nut and bolt on a new car purchase…..no. Why should the OP have to do this on a new bike?
If you go as far as Golspie then you should do Balblair while you are there, you won’t be disappointed.
Golspie is a fair old climb to the top and some of the rocky sections are reasonably difficult. There are lots of shortcuts if the full climb is too much and most features have an easier option.
Balblair is a beautiful xc ride…… Krembo (user name) has done a video that gives you a good idea what it is like (search this forum for it….although it is quite old now).
In a canal that was minus it’s water (they are quite deep).
Riding alongside the canal, not really concentrating and my front wheel hooked up on a rut. I decided my best course of action was to jump clear of the bike and onto the canal path, unfortunately I was going too fast to stop and continued to run straight into the canal! (90’s spd’s are not very grippy). I kinda wish I hadn’t been drained, I would have been wet but in a lot less pain.
I’m glad no one was around because I must have looked like a right tit.
Two weeks of days followed by two weeks of nights here.
On the weeks I’m on nights I have zero motivation to ride as I’m generally too tired. A long commute doesn’t help matters.
The bonus is three day weekends every week (25% extra pay is also nice)
First non-solo ride for quite a while today…..highlight (other than the company) was being able to ‘let it rip’. I’ve been riding within myself for so long I’d forgotten what a bit of adrenaline feels like 🙂
All those little paths and mini bmx track were there 25+ years ago when I used to ride my bmx. If they were causing problems for the orchids I’m sure the country park would have done something about them. Carry on riding them, I do when I’m down that way.
I’ve been to Liverpool once, on a return journey from the IOM. On the walk from the Seacat terminal to Lime Street station I witnessed three fights, one of which became a case of manslaughter. Kinda tainted my view of the place.
Ye. Course you did!
Surfer any reason not to believe me?
. Happened August 2000 and the trial was in April 2001 at Manchester Crown Court. I was called as a witness as I was the person who called the ambulance and provided first aid.
