SS Uganda tour of the Med, with my brother, a month or so before she went to the Falklands. My parents were offered a full refund if they didn’t want to send us as Israel and Lebanon were getting pretty close to war.
Even as a 10 year old I felt a bit afraid in Israel. It was strange seeing guns everywhere and tanks parked at the side of the road.
It was an awesome experience and I am eternally grateful to my parents for scraping the money together to send us.

I can’t help, but with the amount of knee pads I have ordered, tried on and sent back to CRC, I’m sure it would have been cheaper for them to fly me over for a fitting session!

Anywhere and almost anytime. I share a house, that’s at the end of a 1/2km dirt track, with a girl who spends almost all her spare time riding her horse or doing exercise classes. Perfect.

…i go to work to get better at my career, the associated stress is an acceptable trade off…

Exactly the opposite for me. I go to work to earn money with a little stress as possible.
I get my challenge from trying to get better at biking……which I find enjoyable, not stressful.

Mine, from CRC, came with a tinted lens fitted, a spare clear lens and a packs of tear offs. This was all inside the official packaging and how they are supposed to be supplied.
They work well for me and I fog up most stuff I’ve tried.

    Rimmer:
When you’re younger you can eat what you like, drink what you like, and still climb into your 26″ waist trousers and zip them closed. Then you reach that age, 24-25, your muscles give up, they wave a little white flag, and without any warning at all you’re suddenly a fat bastard.

    How was the ride?

You are generally either going up or down usually at about 10 to 15%. I’ll usually do 10 to 15 miles with about 2750 to 3750 feet of climbing.
    The best descents are.
    Oxencraig to Back o Benacchie
    Millstone’s saddle, North or South.
Mither Tap to Rowantree car park.
    The Gordon Way from Oxencraig.
    Southern path from Mither Tap
    Northern path from Mither Tap
Southern path from Millstone Hill summit.

They are probably in a rough order of how difficult they are. They are mostly walkers paths so expect water bars and stone staircase type of stuff.
I generally head out from any of the main car parks (visitors centre, Rowantree, Don View or Back o Bennachie) and link any of these descents.

Anything off the main trail and walkers paths will be absolutely sodden at the moment. I don’t think the dry spell expected is likely to dry them up by Tuesday.
Personally I much prefer the riding on Millstone Hill, Oxencraig and Bennachie. They ups are a lot steeper and the downs are a bit more techy.

From a very unscientific test sat on my couch* I would agree with Ned. At a certain point your fingers grip is strongest, move away from this point and it gradually gets weaker.

*honestly, no in private viewing was used in this experiment.

where the consequences of falling off small-medium waves are generally non-existent.

……or you could hit your head, drown and die! That’s my distorted view of watersports!

You are overthinking the risk. Mountain biking is not really that risky a pastime.

As others have said there is probably an element of GPS error in it.
However, quick riders really are stupidly quick.
A couple of years ago I was in second place,on Strava, for the descent to Achnashellach in Torridon with a time of 5.28 and I was sure I could make up the time on a good run and get the KOM. The next month Greg Williamson’s name appeared at the top of the leaderboard and he had taken a minute out of me! It was the first time he had ridden the descent so I reckon he could probably go a fair bit quicker.
Certainly puts you in your rightful place 🙂

Was gonna head out early Sunday to do a 100km road ride (an offering to the gods of Strava), but yesterday’s MTB ride showed encouraging signs of dryness on the trails – so now I am conflicted.

    …….conflicted……dry trails!!

Bennachie and Millstone Hill in Aberdeenshire in a few minutes, on the trail bike. The joys of getting every other Friday off work.
Dallas in Morayshire tomorrow, riding (well trying to ride) my DH bike, followed by curry and beer with a few people off this forum, and then sleeping in my car.
Not really sure what the plan is for Sunday, but I believe it will involve riding a bike.

I bought a DH bike recently and the rims are flatted, dented and cracked, they are wrecked, but they are holding air tubeless.

Pitfiche Hill in Aberdeenshire to get used to riding my DH bike. I’ll be a bit nervous as I will be riding with some pretty quick lads.
No proper riding as I have tweaked my knee and don’t want to put it under too much stress…….it’s all steep hills around me.

Well don’t come back on here complaining about who sold it you when you do.

I dont think my ghost would be STW enough to do that, it would actually haunt the seller.

Fettle and clean gears every night! Once or twice a year if my road/commute/do it all bike is lucky.
That sounds like an excuse to ride fixed rather than a reason.
