I know it’s not budget friendly*, but I’ve come to the conclusion that Castelli make awesome cycling kit and they seem to make something for every kind of weather.

*Their stuff is quite often on offer somewhere.

After watching any of the Earthed DVD’s you will think you are Sam Hill. Your next ride will be a painful experience that proves you are definitely not Sam Hill 😳 😳

I’ve tried but never ended up doing it regularly. Just too much hassle.

You can get 90% of the benefits just by changing tyres.

Surely changing tyres is way more hassle than a cassette!

I’ve had two sets of wheels for my Nukeproof Mega TR for about a year now and don’t find swapping a hassle, including swapping cassette and resetting the calipers. For me it’s definitely worth it as the different wheels totally transform the bike.

Pushing ‘a bit’ happens when I’m ‘feeling it’.

If I’m feeling nervous or scared I’ll just ride within myself until I start to to loosen up a bit.

Pushing it for me means steep stuff with catch berms…..they scare me.

Lidl’s champagne from about 10 years ago (not bought any for a while). It was better, to my taste, than stuff that was three or four times as expensive.

    ……..edit…….this is the bikes bit isn’t it….oops.

I’ll go with Decathlon 700 bibshorts. The best I’ve tried and can be had for £25 when on offer.

Scolty Hill near Banchory…….soooo hot on the climbs. This was my water refill spot.

Not mega high value, but I have spent a fair bit getting it right. I also have a spare set of lighter wheels and lots of tyres. It will be staying until it breaks.

We did the classic loop, but included the left turn just after the bothy and stayed to the right of the two lochs after the road climb.

Torridon was the wettest I’ve ever seen it, but it was still amazing.

We almost turned the Torridon Inn into a swimming pool!

I’ve already donated, but as others have said, I doubt it will come to anything.
Good on the guys for trying though.

Selle Italia SLR 135 is one of the most comfortable saddles I’ve used, but is too expensive expensive when my bike inevitably goes bouncing down a hillside.

In a takeaway pizza place in my hometown a woman asked the guy behind the counter, in all seriousness……..”can you tell me how big a 10″ pizza is?”

I think demographic of the forum users has changed over the years. Most now have a lot more disposable income and tend to buy new.

I’ve got a TR 26″ from 2013 that I doubt I’ll use the mount for. If this is what you need send me your address and I’ll pop it in the post tomorrow. My email is in my profile.

The back of my 2007 Alhambra. Easy’ish to remove the seats and ends up flat. I’ve put foam padding down and sleep in it regularly on biking road trips.
    Awesome bike transporter.

Shimano sintered pads here. I’m happy enough to pay £20 a pair for Saint finned pads in the knowledge that they work well, work consistently and last a long time.
I’ve tried über bike pads and binned the set I didn’t use.

I’ve been on the forum since about 2005 and I’ve gradually watched the forum ‘lifestyle’ get older.
In the earlier days the forum was a big influence on me and my riding as everyone seemed to be generally likeminded mountain-bikers. As the forum members average age has increased and the discussion moves more to road bikes, fat bikes and bike-packing it has become much less relevant to me*.
*44 years old, just bought my first DH bike and riding harder and faster than I was in 2005.

    Yes.
I’m in the ‘if it’s not broken, why replace it.’ camp.
Also, I watched part of The Hobbit’ on an expensive, modern telly and the picture looked wrong, erm, too clear/sharp or something.

The Hope Barnoldswick 211 looks nicer than its almost namesake, the Rolls Barnoldswick 211.

I’m guessing there is a link between the two……The Hope guys are all ex Rolls Royce, I think.

Lucky, mine fully ruptured. I nearly died and was in hospital for weeks.

Same here. It taught me that trying to ‘tough it out’ is silly.

I run one one the front. No problems regarding burping, but I do run about 25psi and weigh about 79kg. Only issue I’ve had was ripping a sidewall, although in reality I should have been running dual ply on the trail I did it on.

The only real cheese I’ve tried that I’ve not liked is Caboc. I may have to buy some more to give it another go.
    Favourite for me is Manchego.
