Does anybody know where in West London (or nearby) I can try 5-10’s on? Small size, mind you (40 AKA 6/7).

I don’t know but if you need a set so you can see how good you are at swapping levers and shortening hoses just let me know – I have a set that needs work but no skill/tools/time to learn.

I’ve used Bontragers and Continentals, both fine. Better than Maxxis slicks but not as fast nor as smooth (more stable round corners and over potholes). I’d go for DMR Moto though (old kevlar ones) – fast as ****, no punctures ever, fine off road (family type paths).

Typical Polish? I’ll have a chuckle showing you one of my fellow country men:

Taken from an official exhibition called “A Typical Polish” organised in Poland some time ago.

The Tatras are rocky and full of hard core walkers (and Zakopane is loved by the Russians), whilst the Sudetens are more relaxed, flowy and singletracky. Have a guess why I prefer them. Besides, you can fly to Wroclaw and it’s only 120kms or so from there.

Finding something as long as 5kms isn’t hard there. You’re looking at mountains over 5000ft above the sea level or even more.

IIRC this one took some 90 mins on a Trek 4000 rigid with V-brakes last time I was there. Arm pump took ages to go, though.

    Will do with pleasure!

I’m not familiar with Bieszczady (or the Eastern Karpatian Mountains as a whole) – I was too close to The Sudetens to bother with anything other. I do know though, there are wild bears, boars and wolves in there, a friend of mine used to take his Marin Team (V-brakes and Manitou SX Ti) and a rucksack there every year. He said you were alone for days or, if chosen, weeks. It’s a bit hardcore if you have a family, mind.

My dream ride is down from Kasprowy Wierch to Zakopane. Why? Have a look below:

I’m trying to get through The Zen but it’s challenging to say the least.

Good man, cuckoo, my home land! The Czechs have better infrastructure and marketing, the Poles more open spaces and fewer Germans. If you go to Karkonosze you’ll probably need to stick to designated routes, but any neighbouring mountains will be quieter.
BTW There is a series of races organised down there in Szklarska Poreba and Karpacz. Plenty of lycra on fit, sorry – intelectually exciting ;-) people.

Russian is a beautiful language once you can speak it. I was fluent years ago as my parents employed a housekeeper who happened to have been a professor of metallurgy at Kiev University prior to her emigrating from USSR.
What I remember is that Russian literature is so different in Russian to what you might know translated. Take your time, sleep with Russian girls/boys, do whatever it takes but learn it. You won’t regret it.

Better than that, I got it MOT’ed FOC (seller paid for repairs and tests – two of them). Bleeding road tax still to come though.

You not-so-lovely so-and-so! Enjoy, I really wouldn’t be good enough for such a car and the Puke’got came with a CD multichanger (important?).

I needed to use Shimano adaptors with my Hope brakes as Hope ones wouldn’t work. Hope adaptors are working with Shimano brakes though. Weird.

My brother had a proper crash in a Matiz, 4 adults and 90kph on the clock. No injuries to report despite rearing a truck. They had (the first Matizes at least) a safety cage inbuilt.
I also know of a family friend who drives Matiz between Warsaw and Paris regularly.

You’ll struggle in Poland if you don’t speak Polish or at least German. The Suddetens are fine, rolling and great. If you want some peaceful MTB’ing I can give some pointers in South-West Poland (border of Poland and Czech Rep.) – I’m from there myself. My favourite mountains are Gory Sowie [/url]but you really need to be able to communicate. If you speak Slovak or Czech you should be ok though.

BTW Polish lager starts at 5% and prices are getting cheaper if you have pounds.

I don’t care about the story. Another non-story being reported only ‘cos she’s a “celeb”.

Have you spoken to bike shops? When I had my SX nicked some years ago, Cycle Surgery stuff emailed the photo to all their mates and the bike was found. Sadly the Police couldn’t be ar$ed that day and we needed to use unofficial ways of recovery (a mate competing in Strong Man comps was sufficient).

I’ll keep an eye round Hounslow/Heathrow for you. If I see it, it’ll be yours in no time.

So, can I have a 1point5 head-tubed cromoly singlespeed please? Will you be making tandems? You know you want to ;-)

BTW Brant’s missed out on a perfect opportunity to call his bikes Brant New. Right, my coat…
