26 is nicer Backwheelin’ through the furrows. (not faster. or less hurty. Just nicer. ie. moar fun)

’bout 15 years back I witnessed an inners NPS track ridden on a 20″ BMX with street tyres and only a rear U brake.

S’pose it all depends on what you personally find fun. 😉

Scuttlebugs are awesome for pre-12mth olds

(cheap and easy to take anywhere too). my youngest was on one from 9 or 10mths (walking at 10mths) and went straight on to ride a 3 wheel micro-scooter at 12mths then 10″ wheel balance bike and 2 wheel scooters at 15-18mths and pedalling a bike unaided a couple of weeks before her 2nd birthday.
TBF she loved/loves anything with wheels.
Some kids do. some don’t. don’t sweat it.

    Wow.
To me. it points to a parent trying desperately to make up for his own shortcomings.

sorry if this sounds harsh. I’m only thinking of the wee guy here.

You can’t honestly think a bowl of pasta, sports drink and a game of rugby is good recovery after a morning of “intervals”?

Judgmental all the gear so blinkered they’re too scared to ride to the corner shop without a helmet types are commonplace at trail centres. Despite their strong narrowminded views not one of ’em has ever had the balls to actually pass comment on my attire or lack of helmet. Despite all that gear most can’t even hold a wheelie nevermind smoke while doing so.

£60 for a couple of red led lights in a tube?

    that’s mental!

if you don’t have a pump for the trailer. What about one of these for one side:

and a few of these for the other:

    this:

makes a noise after a week of riding and requires tightening again.

suggests the stem is not clamping the steerer sufficiently enough and it is slipping in use.

Silly little stem pinch bolts and lightweight cut away stems with less clamping area are the norm these days.
a stem with greater contact around the steerer and decent pinch bolts may grip the steerer more securely.
carbon paste may help a weedy lightweight stem grip more securely also.

sub 30lb bikes being ridden like DH bikes was never a smart idea, Something is always compromised.

    but #Enduro.

They grow up so fast… 😯

    Yer Giant was 15″ son.
There’s a Large STP here doing nothing if you want it! (complete bike. needs a new fork and could do with new brakes).
Nothing with 650s is gonna feel quite like an ol’ STP with it’s 16″ stays. But you already knew that, eh?
45650b’s possibly not all that bad for what you want if you’re adamant about leaving 26s and going to 120-130mm up front.
These might fit the bill too.

petty small car scorn is a strange one isn’t it?

    gwurk

    No.

The perfect tyre for hardtail trail riding is 26″ x 2.2-2.4 depending on conditions/rider weight.

    Why compromise?

    RC is an idiot

“I challenged that that tire makers were either unwilling or unprepared to develop new manufacturing methods that would result in a lightweight laterally stiff plus-sized rim and tire combination”

and Conti make terrible enough tyres already.

£2500 to spend on a bike and an Alpine holiday in the summer? Some paper round. 😉 No wonder the lad has no time to maintain his bike. 🙂
Plenty Enduro bikes to choose from for that money though.

Ok so the Intense needs a new fork?
seeing as it’ll be a long travel 26″ fork. £200 Should get you an older second hand Lyrik etc. in decent condition.
What are the “various other things” it needs?
Might be worth sorting it out so he still has a bike with a DH build instead of trashing his nice new enduro bike. All in it might well be cheaper than a spare set of DH wheels/tyres for the new bike with.
Even budget New 11spd etc. parts are expensive. 2007 drivetrain parts are dirt cheap.

Sounds like the real problem here is that no one is maintaining the lads bikes regularly and unless that changes he’ll quickly ride anything mummy buys into the ground anyway whether it be an Ednuro or a DH bike.

I’ve no experience of SLX but it’s a well known problem with zee mechs.

Basically the pinch bolt plate has a sharp edge and it frays the cable.

    Shadow+ short cage issues

DHR2 is a better all rounder up front than a DHF as the braking is hugely superior but still remains one of the most consistent, predictable cornering tyres out there.
HR2 is a vast improvement over the original Highroller as well.

Not sure which trail centres you ride that a shorty would ever be the best choice.

Quality of light? Have you seen how these cyclists dress?

IMO they should hold these things in the dark. Less road closures to piss off locals just trying to go about their daily lives too.

    Same with Marathons.

From the comments read here I can manual mtb or BMX longer than all of you.
Haven’t ever thought about how long it took to learn. Sorry. It was a long time ago. and I was just having fun. I manual every ride. I still ride almost every day.
What I can’t do is hold a manual using my rear brake to hold the balance point as many mtbers do. I learned manuals brakeless. it makes long downhill manuals end up very high speed.

Wobbliscott- You don’t actually need to use that “L” shape at all to initiate a manual and hold it. I never have. ever. all that’s required is a push/kick forwards with the legs through the thighs while simultaneously hanging back from your bars.
The “L” shaped advice seems like it has been added by skills tutors in order to find a repeatable teachable technique which forces you to push your legs while moving your weight backwards. This does not mean it’s the only correct technique.

most mtb riders are not dynamic enough on their bikes and do not have strong enough muscles to manual comfortably when learning.
Plenty mtb skills coaches can’t manual very well at all.
Ask for a refund if you ever find yourself on a course with one who can’t.
    Seriously. (it’s a basic skill).
