The question still remains, was Plod being untruthful? Wouldn’t exactly be out of character for them…

Anyway the new Chief Whip is rumored to be Sir George Young

But was he being dishonest if his aide told the guard he was in first and he bought an upgrade….. non story really

£700 million drop in borrowing compared to the same month last year and unemployment down by 50k is more of a story but not sensationalist enough.

I just saw that report Sancho,

Mr Plod acting as a law unto himself again and not following due process, like failing to grant a suspect access to a lawyer for three hours, gets a scumbag off a murder charge.

Ok he’ll get life for one of the murders but on a double murder conviction he’d have gone away permanently. Plod should be charged with perverting the course of justice.

People buy upgrades to first on the train during the week all the time. Sadly its usually only if they get asked to show their ticket by the guard, which on London Midland isn’t that often so fare dodging is rife. I’m unfortunate enough to commute daily and see it all the time.

The idiot Osbourne should have just bought a first class ticket anyway.

I seem to recall that Cherrie Blair also got caught fare dodging, maybe the political classes think its ok for them not to pay?

I better clarify the post above, before it gets misinterpreted. I am not saying discrimination is right. I believe bigotry and discrimination in all forms to be utterly wrong.

what I’m saying is, they could have just said “no, you’re not coming in, I don’t want your business” and left it at that. By giving a reason they showed what their prejudice was and there are certain things on the basis of which you can’t discriminate.

    +1 brakes

Their mistake was giving a reason, you can refuse service to anyone you like, for any reason or no reason whatsoever. As soon as you say it because you’re [whatever “group” they belong to] it becomes discriminatory

stop being a pretentious twit and accept the far more common use of the word

Thanks for the abuse njee did you actually check the correct usage of the word perambulate before you used it? The answer is of course no because you permabulate through something not to something,

e.g. I perambulated the corridors of STW

I suggest you buy a dictionary, and or a thesaurus, to digest with your flagon of ale at the local hostelry. You may be better informed before you dish it out next time.

I tend to agree with some of the posts above, a violent thug, based on his previous record, employed by the Filth gets away with beating a newspaper seller and Killing him. Another yob in the Filth Tasers a crippled old man and gets away with it, but you go swimming in the Thames and spoil a race off to gaol with you

Somethings very wrong there if you ask me – which of course you didn’t 😀

Excellent and helpful suggestion. Just a shame that its already installed and Chrome states it can’t use it for spell checking when you select it in Settings…..

    But thanks anyway 😕

Lets not forget the Greek view of accession to the EU for Scotland, as he bit of Macedonia still in Greece wants independence and they currently refuse to recognize the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (hence the silly name). Might set a dubious precedent they would have to follow.

among them, that Scotland adds more value to the UK economy per capita than most of the UK (and the exceptions, London and the South East, are of course massively influenced by the centralisation of government)

You need to get your facts right on how wealths generated in the South east of England and in addition on which areas of the country have more than 50% of the workforce employed by the government.

Might come as a surprise to hear something like 30% of the total tax take in the UK comes from the City of London – evil bankers, hang-em burn-em etc….

Genuine question now – whats the economic case for independence being put forward by the SNP. I genuinely have no idea, presumably its based on retaining 90% of the North Sea Oil reserves? What have they got to say about the cessation of the funding for Scotland from the Barnett Formula and the £80 billion debt of Royal Bank of Scotland to the UK?

And I’d be interested in your view on retaining the pound? Personally I think that’s a deeply flawed plan, independent nation states trying to use a single currency leads to fiscal chaos, as has happened twice in Europe previously.

Just think, if we stopped fighting amongst each other and worked together, we’d probably have reached Jupiter by now

And then the radiation around Jupiter would have killed us instead! We should have worked together to get to Mars, and maybe we will after the discoveries Curiosity Rover is starting to make.

Its fairly certain Mars was warmer and wetter in the past, which means life was/is a distinct possibility.

Agreed Meade ETX are good scopes and highly portable. You’d be looking at the ETX 125 if you want something approaching 5 inch.

    Gweilo

I tried to post a response just now an buggered it up.

    First some questions –

What do you want to observe with this scope, Lunar and planetary stuff mostly or are you looking at Deep Sky observation, galaxies nebulae etc

Whats the driver for a reflector and have you done any research into the types of reflector on the market – Newtoian, Schmit Cassegrain, Maksutov. The small good quality reflectors tend to be Maksutov’s and don’t come cheap

Do you understand the relative merits of each type of scope, reflector vs refractor?

    Finally whats the budget.

Assuming I were to be using the scope mostly for Lunar and Planetary observation and I were buying a 5 inch scope I’d be inclined to buy a better quality refractor for the same money as the reflector.

Why – what you see, and the resolution of what you see, is all about the light you collect and the light that gets to the eyepice. In any reflecting telescope there are secondary mirrors that cut down the total light reaching the eyepiece.

With a refractor you have a straight through light path, no secondary mirrors. In respect of straight light gathering and resolving capability a 5 inch aperture refractor gives higher performance, and almost certainly has better optics, than a reflector of the same aperture.

Decent scope manufacturers – Celestron, Meade, Orion Optics

    I’ve got 2 Celestron’s a 6 inch refractor and a 9.25inch reflector

Happy to waffle more about motor drives and guiding if that would help

The last thread of kaesae’s I read was researching the loveliness and reasonableness of the Iranian government. It appeared to be suggesting Iran getting a nuke wasn’t a bad thing and was ever so slightly antisemitic. This one is, appears to be, adopting the view that 9/11 was perpetrated by the US Government either to cover up crappy accounting or to start a war in the middle east.

“Researching” the two threads posted by kaesae I’ve read leads me to conclude he’s an apologist for Islamic Fundamentalism.

As I might not be being totally objective I conducted a survey of approximately 0.000001% of the UK population asking if they agreed or disagreed with that assertion. The respondent agreed. Therefore statistics show 100% of the UK population believe kaesae is an apologist for Islamic fundamentalism

This survey was only marginally less statistically valid than kaesae’s statistics, posted earlier, based on a survey of 0.000032% of the US population so he must agree, its a statistically proven fact.

I look forward to the “MI5 dun the 7/7 bombings to keep the war going” thread

Hopefully you’ll get a conservation officer with some common sense. They can be a real pain in the arze to deal with when it comes to listed buildings. Best advice I can give you is it will require patience

I live in a Tudor barn and was once treated to a muppet telling me every blade of grass in my garden was listed…..

Recycled materials, bricks, rood tiles etc are always good, matching everything for colour is also a help and if the building is rendered on the outside you’re probably looking at having to use Lime Plaster which doesn’t some cheap.

I’d also be inclined to suggest finding a good local architect who’s used to dealing woith your particular crop of conservation officers.

Gweilo, you’ll haver to help us out here: I have read grum’s posts a couple of times and I can’t see the bit where he condones benefit fraud anywhere.

    Happy to help

    grum – Member

So, your (and CMD’s) solution to a few people managing to game the system ….

Please note the use of the phrase “gaming the system” gaming is being used as an alternative for cheating or defrauding. My assertion is backed up by his later use of:

At least that means no-one’s cheating the system eh?

Note the word “cheating” directly replacing “gaming”

My interpretation of the post is that Grum believes “gaming the system” is acceptable. But we are now debating sentence structure and possible interpretations of something neither of us wrote.

I don’t disagree with the second part of your post, though I think we need to remember tax avoidance, including TESSAs, ISAs etc which are tax avoidance vehicles, is perfectly legal. Another contributor made the point about dodgy tax avoidance schemes eloquently earlier in the thread
