Vaguest statement of the year award goes to you, well done

    No. Well done you!!
from your partial quote I’ll assume you had trouble understanding how my next sentence made perect sense of that statement. 🙄

Read what Northwind wrote above ^^

Transapp – I didn’t sit down or change gear all afternoon today, but no, I’m hellishly unfit just now. 🙁

Why are you removing your granny ring to go to two rings instead of removing the middle and big ring and replacing the middle with something sized somewhere between the two? 😕

    WTF OP? (and you ^^)

20 gears is more than enough to ride anything, You’ve simply chosen inappropriate chainring sizes for you and your riding.

I’ve been happily running 2×8 for over 15years with no issues,

lightweight wheels are very flexible. get stiffer rims, increase spoke count or do both.
bladed and super thin butted spokes cause more flex too

Duane, yours is 15″ mine’s 14″ or did you just split the difference? 😀

hopefully an 18 wheeler will be along any minute to sort it out in the looks department

the for sale and wanted section here? (although most of the nicer kids 16″ wheel bikes go for far too much S/H here)
Gumtree if you are prepared to wait for a bargain.

a 16″ seat tube will fit a 33″ inside leg with a 410mm post nicely so why would you want longer? unfortunately the seat tube is not the only measurement to be taken into account when buying a frame.

the only flicking Al and Druid are likely to do would involve each others banjo strings 8)

is it the same drop-out/stay design as this maxxle one?

if so, certainly looks to be a stupid design with too little clearance.

TBC removing a 2,5mm drive side BB spacer will make next to **** all difference to a frame with such poor chainstay clearance.

I’d be re-spacing my hub end caps for acceptable clearance

    Stupid = lacking intelligence

Intelligence = ability to learn, reason and understand.

I certainly do not wish for any more stupid people.

There’s certainly one thing here that remains stupid.

Yes, of course suspension will grip better over footprints and ruts 🙄

mud with the same water consistency on the surface right through to a few inches to a foot deep and uniformly wet/deep no matter what the lay of the land? 😯
No I have never heard of “chalk country” is it where willy wonka comes from?
Does this magical chalk country mud also smooth it’self out after each trye/footprint cuts through it?

    Weird eh?

not weird at all, mboy. Plenty 15yr olds still ride but not too many of them ride with middle aged men.
and when you were 15, plenty 20-40yr olds rode too

    What does low level mean?

There’s far better mtbing around Glencoe than the purpose built trails at the ski centre.

    No problem abt the frame

But keep thinking about the effect suspension has on grip and try not to forget there’s no such thing as perfecty smooth entirely consistent mud. You’re nearly there . 😉

    GW

    No not really
What lines are achievable by some riders using hardtails may still be unachievable by many other riders using full suspension bikes so I still stand by my view.

No mildred, for the same reason I gave Donk 😉

    GW

    Ok Donk
    I’ll clarify too

The bike doesn’t force or make the rider do anything. How each rider chooses to ride is entirely down to the rider rather than the bike.

Mol – glad you had a good ride, did you “think” anymore about the effect suspension can have on grip in mud?
Oh.. and do you want the frame?

    GW

    What about somewhere rooty?
or really loose and dusty perhaps?
    what about simply very muddy?

suspension should not be chosen primarily for comfort but for increased control.

Lol.. it’s me.. of course I’ve thought about it!

didn’t really learn very much tho, eh?

the parents who buy their children neck braces are the same parents who buy them a top end DH bike, “need” doesn’t come into it 😉

personally I reckon a neck brace would do me more harm than good

    GW

you don’t need both to get the best out of either. choice of bike doesn’t really force you to ride a certain way, that’s the rider.

I don’t doubt it! walking around on a broken leg for nearly 5mths sounds pretty hard core! 8)

    Get well soon!

Ps. depending on your break, uplifted DH may still be possible with a broken leg.

All a FS does is smooth out rocks, and there is FAR more to descending than simply handling rocks.

You really believe all rear suspension does is smooth out the ride over rocks? 😯
Have you honestly never thought about the eect rear suspension has on grip or stability?
