Weeride would be better for the child as they’ll be able to see where you’re going and better for you as the bike’ll handle better but knowing a few of you weirdos I suspect your cunning plan may well involve something far more bizare than simply carrying a child off road.

Slow rebound on the back of a hardtail? That’s pure genius, even for here 😀

Bwarp – hence the word “if” 🙄

    Warner was probably right

Jon – at speed you shouldn’t be steering shallow corners with by front wheel grip you should be doing it through weight shift. same with adjustments of line choice over fast rough terrain.

xiphon – I’d like to see you lift a flat pedal hardtail like you can when clipped in without first pre-loading the pedals.

    another thing..

Riding flat pedals requires a different approach to reading the terrain ahead to riding SPDs.

switching back and forth probably isn’t doing you any favours.

stop leaning over the front “working” the fork expecting the rear to skip over everything and learn to skim the front wheel over rough ground with less weight over the front (kinda like manualling). ride the rear wheel more and use the foot and a half of rear suspension in your legs properly.

slam the fork and the saddle and you’ll find both of the above easier.

if you are hanging off the back, you don’t need front wheel grip.

CBA reading all that ^^ (is it full of loads of typical STW overthinking?)

but your seat’s too high, your bars too low and fork too long. seriously!

on a hardtail to keep your feet on over fast rough ground (that isn’t steep) you don’t really need to drop your heels, you simply need to position yourself lower and hold your feet in position with the rest of your body allowing you to do whatever you want with your feet.

    HTH.

FWIW I never have a problem keeping my feet on the pedals with skate shoes and about 3 pedal pins. I purposely run un-grippy pedals as I like my feet in completely different positions for different things.

Oh.. and get rid of that stupid bent seatpost too

Kids of your own ranging in age from 2 to 21 helps keep any dilusion of being anything other than your actual age at bay 😉

What a bunch of delusional old fools.

Have ridden 100miles in a fast paced group in well under 6hrs but don’t think I could rver manage 150 in one day. The lower and non competative pace needed for me to complete it would do my head in before the first hour.

Never Oakleys unless you actually like seeing through steamed up plastic.

new original and “patern” lenses (and tear offs) are easily available cheap online for most goggles

Bar end plugs are a product that can and will work perfectly well if not fitted by a clueless tight bodger.

Although handlebars have an external diameter at the grip/controls end of 22.2mm they have many different internal diameters, you simply need to use the correct size of plug. 🙄

My vote goes to every tubeless mtb tyre system so far

There was a 2011/12 SX for sale on SDH about a month back.

Can’t you find a US shop that will send you one? Did Spesh bring any into Europe at all?

My old 02 SX (see Enduro thread from a few days back) has even slacker/lower geometry and 115mm travel, they still occasionally turn up for sale S/H all these years on.

Proper low or slack isn’t needed for hucking either

Kidwoo knows his shit! If you were happy with what you read get the SX

He wrote more about it on Ridemonkey too.

Trust me on this, it’d be kinda pointless having a proper slack/low frame to ride slow and mincy too.

Hmm.. adult sizes for your eldest will bump up the price. Mine have always had Vans but that’s above budget.. places like Sports Soccer occasionally have Airwalk around 20 quid and if you’re lucky you might find something in TK maxx. Buying skate shoes online for kis can be a nightmare due to different brands sizing.

I’d love to watch you try and throttle a DH bike out a flat corner with one foot off. 😆
Do you have playing cards in your spokes too?

You don’t have a motoX bike (and I’m ‘delusional’?) 🙄
Why didn’t you book lessons with DirtSchool a month back when it was suggested to you?

Good luck with “tailwhipping” a Sunday BTW – darwin would be proud 😉

    Me neither 😉
5mins along the road from you is Transgression, there’s a nice easy funbox there, book a beginners lesson and hire bike, if you like it buy a s/h bmx and spend the next 6months learning to ride that instead of pretending to be an Mx rider. (Or were you going for “Sam Hill”)
No payment needed, first “virtual skills” session’s free 8)

    David is spot on.

You see loads of these frames set up all wrong and ridden badly round trail centres.

You racin wi KT on Sat?
if you’re not in a hurry, check mine out then if you want, by all means turn your nose up at them but if they’d do, a slight detour on your way home to Tesco in Dalkeith and you’ll get a set for a tenner. (actually there’s a Tesco at Hermiston Gait too)

“everything” and “motoX cornering”? 😕 – this really isn’t the best answer to my question.

What are your strengths and weaknesses on a bike? – and I don’t mean spotting that Commencal’s and GT’s are shit 😉

Where do you ride? and what do you want to start racing? SDA’s? There’s one on next weekend at inners. 13 spaces left.

Actually entering a DH race can teach you a lot about DH racing and how the fast guys manage to ride so fast, it’s not all about just going as fast as you can, you need to learn how to practice, how to walk a track, learn every section of it and spot the best lines (for your ability) to make up time, how to conserve energy including during practice (esp at inners). if you are a half decent rider why not enter? at least then you’ll have an idea if it’s really what you want to pursue.

    Ps. WTF is “motoX cornering”?

I know, just being cheeky 😉 I bought a full set from you on Ebay for one bike last year.

Got lots of bikes so could find a use for plenty different bearings/kits, I’m already a very experienced (ex-shop) cycle mechanic and don’t actually like anyone else **** with my bikes.

You didn’t actually answer my question tho.. what do you want to learn?

Have you even see the axles before calling people idiots?
    – the bare axle, not the oversized bearing bulge on the pedal body
