    CTrust the “source” dude!

You’ll not get many replies here unless you put 1×10, dropper or Long travel hardtail on your title. 😉

If you want something that will drift good but hook up like a leith prossie leant over in the slop try a kenda BBG. But you might have a certain someone nick your bike at every oppertunity for ‘tyre testing” 😉

“Fun”? You quite sure about that?

Zedsdead’s thread with pics of kids actually having fun on bikes rather than worrying about whether they are currently in fashion has a whole 5 replies, kinda sums this place up.

What exactly don’t you like about my comment Juan?

Hopefully the wee dude is out havng fun playing on it right now rather than it awaiting it’s next “moumtainbiking” trip.

“NOT MORE HILLS” Says more about the adult than the kid or the bike to me.

Nige, it will sometimes clog, other than teleporting/choosing another route this will leave you the option to walk/carry the bike or simply remove it. Neither are a huge deal.
<edit> in a race it will be, pre-ride the muddiest bits and remove if needed.

    You’ve changed your tune.

Do you teleport past the “horrible” mud?

Ditch the headset spacers, dial the levers in closet to the bars, sort the fork out and let the kid ride it!

At 11 you should be skidding, wheelying, jumping and not GAF about what middle aged fannies on a website ‘think’ you should be riding.

I usr an old style STP for everything from DJ/DH riding to all day XC jaunts (it’s around 28lb with 20mm Reba, saint double, DH/DJ strength wheels and 410mm post) it’s the most vetsatile bike I’ve ever owned. A new style STP would be perfect for what you want (similar to the old ones but SS friendly dropouts). If you’re under 6 ft.

Could easily build it SS to around 25lb with a short 20mm thru axle fork and keep it strong enough for giving it some abuse.

Spesh P bike too ( the alloy DJ one)

    Depends how you ride really..

anywhere but your discs and stanchions really, a tiny dribble of fork oil will do for them (the stanchions obv.) then just pump the forks a few times wiping off the excess.

What you’re doing sounds fine, you could add a minute to your current procedure by lubing the chain, gear cables and fork stanchions. GT85 on the towel will make them nice n shiny if that’s what you’re after

Nope I never stop on the mainline (comes from 20 yrs DH track etticate)

..and Not being the stalker you seem to be I didn’t even know you had white socks or a gimp suit.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings 😉

Where did I say anything about stopping in the middle of a trail? And for that matter, where above was I impolite to YOU?

You’ve only met/spoken to me once Al, you don’t know me at all..

(IIRC you only said about 3 sentences).

Stepping off the back of the bike while it’s still moving, raising bars and allowing the bike to roll through into a manual to upside down has got to be as quick as what you’re suggestong Al?

My outer lock on collars have no anodising left from riding and have no other shite attached to my bars to damage.

    BMX = upside down
    Roadie = Upright
IME only insecure little white sock wearing gimps will feel the need to verbally justify holding onto dated roadie rituals while riding mtbs off road.

What’s to stop you getting the longer one and cutting a bit off the bottm if needed?

I certainly wouldn’t choose a shorter drop if I could help it

You think you can twist your steerer now you have silly wide bars? 😆

Thru axle diameter actually makes quite a bit of a diference.

Do you also think that if fork steerers were half inch diameter instead of one and an eighth an ahead stem would clamp securely enough?

Vodafone do a smart phone on PAYG for 50quid.
one of our kids has one, seems absolutely fine and can do pretty much anything my smartphone can.
every network seems to still do something like you had for between 10-15quid

CGAF about your made up non calibrated “range” TBH

a good 20mm thru axle design is stiffer than the same with 15mm axle which is stiffer than 9mm QR or bolted axles. All work just fine.

    GW

clamp a 9mm front axle facing outwards in one QR drop-out as tightly as you can. grab the fork leg and the axle end that’s not attached to see for yourself just how much movement there is.and more importantly how much the axle moved away from perpendicular to the fork leg.
Do the same with a Maxle inserted in the threads the wrong way and pre-loaded tight enough that it doesn’t rotate, the fork leg will still twist but the axle will remanin far clkoser to perpendicular to it.

Has this forum got even more stupid recently? Pinkbike users hove more of a clue these days.

6hours from George Sq to the meadows? Is it a bunch of fatbikers riding in the clyde?

There’s a huge amount of difference, whether you’ll actually notice is another matter.

Material, construction, design and manufacturing process all contribute towards how well it will do it’s job. Personally I’d go for a stiff/strong sensible design over a lightweight one everytime. I’d suggest anyone wanting to fit wide bars do the same.

CynicAl may be an idiot but at least building the most unused fatbike in the country cost him **** all.

TBF one question would have done

The way a Thru axle is clamped/threaded into the dropout allows it to become part of the structure adding to rigidity/stiffness, they only really need to be oversized to achieve a stiff enough interface to be worthwhile.

reducers can wear out too and need replacing, if that happens I’d replace the entire bike with a fatbike

What you really need is a Fatbike, eh Bruce?

    GW

of course you don’t “need” a 20mm thru axle
going from QR to bolt up 9mm will be barely noticable in terms of stiffness and neither will be anywhere near as a stiff as 20mm.
