Look up the meaning of the word “bespoke”

What other bike would you expect find kids parts on ? 😕

And yes, I have sourced replacement parts for hundreds of kids bikes.

Are you seriously trying to say that when a part on a kids bike breaks i cannot be replaced therefore rendering said bike useless?

Lol none of those parts are “bespoke” 🙄

It’s simply down to units produced/sold and dictatd by demand.

Have you thought about going for a “women’s specific design” since it’s gonna be ridden by a girl and her dad who rides like one? 😛

Seriously tho, is it going to work sharing a bike with your daughter? Especially a full sus? Sounds like a major faff with pressures and set-up to me but if you can live with that go for it!
I’d also recommend an Anthem, a 4st lighter and shorter mate has one built with 120mm rebas and a shor stem and it’s a wee pinner even sagged 60% and bottoming out the whole time under my fat ass. (Actually, that might have had something to do with why it felt so fun 😳 )

What Dean said is spot on! Your weight matters too.

And if you do ride well enough a 20mm reba is a better purchase than a heavy overbuiltt DJ specific fork

“all-mountain” is a bullshit “made up” marketing term to sell XC bikes to folk who think they are too gnar to ride XC.

of course it will, a Reba will stand up to it as long as it’s not to flat!

Ah, I recognise all those trails. nice dry weekend for you. not expecting it to be anywhere near those conditions this weekend but will be all the more fun for it.

I helped build that drop (and bus stop into it) at 1min in 18(ish) years ago, it actually had a kicker and you used to be able to launch for miles down the fade off it, bit worn out now tho, eh?

here’s a vid featuring a guy who used to kick all our arses in the local races back then riding some of the stuff you guys’ll have rodden

still killing it at nearly 42yrs old, Crawfy is an absolute Legend!! 🙂

A-C on a 180mm single crown should be around the same as a 200mm boxxer at it’s shortest position in the crowns.

Oh.. and your frame probably won’t be DH low even wih the OS reducers.

    Depends what YOU prefer.

Personally I dislike 8″ forks even on my DH bike and run one rate higher spring in my boxxer so it performs like a 7″ fork. Ie. Sits higher in it’s stroke, less sag/dive, more stable and better pop.

Also, beware sticking a monster single crown fork on your newly lowered slacker bike, you may well be taking the geometry back close to where you started.

At least 50 times a month. Ride at least one bike most days, rides can vary from a 5 minute play or a quick nip to the shop to a days DH or 6hr XC jaunt

Why even start a thread like this if you’re not prepared to even try anything different.?

Your initial problem is 100% down to poor technique and still is!

Ok, You don’t “get” it, fair enough, why would you?

join the chain as short as you can SS style on a vertical (or fixed) drop-out hardtail, depending on gear and chainstay length, that chain is going to be anything from too tight to use to too slack to stay on. there’s your variance!
some riders (not you, granted) will want as short a chain as possible, the variance I’ve explained above can mean the difference between 2 links to that rider’s set-up.

Ps. thanks for answering my question.
You really don’t have anywhere near enough experience to be blindly chucking “standards” and “rules” about ass gospel.

    GW

    oh. FFS.

you seriously think every hardtail has the same length chainstays?

    GW

TJ – are you going to answer my question? (seeing as I’m about to answer yours)

firstly it seems you can’t count, in both your pics you seem to have added 4 links. (one chainlink comprising of just 2 plates)

many suspension frames have too much chain growth for just 2 extra links or even 4.
some set-ups (hardtail or full sus) will work smoothly with just 2 extra links added some will need 4 or more to opperate smoothly.
even on a hardtail chainstay length variance can add up to an inch (or 2 links) variance between what length chain will run big to big and what won’t.
size of the chainring and large sprocket also play a part in what works smoothly
Which particular mech you are using will also play a part.
even mech cage length and number of jocket wheel teeth play a tiny part
as does mech hanger bolt location and chainstay design.

Believe me when I tell you from a huge amount of experience it’s not as cut and dried as you seem to think.

Ps. What would your beloved Sheldon say about running a worn out guide pulley on an ancient but top of the range rear mech?
I’ll tell you, he’d probably say “it is not ideal” but he’d probably still run it being a bit of a pikey..
    same goes for your “standard”

How many single ring set- ups have you fitted TJ?
    – guessing not even in double figures, right?
Your “made up” rule is NOT even always possible never mind giving optimum chain length.

Yunki – very little to do with mech cage length.

Greeble already told you, it’s balls!

You’ve had 5 months to work out why, I’ll give you another 5 and if you’re still struggling with it I “might” tell you why then.

That’s a shame for the riders who ride short travel framrs hard, why don’t you do an Alu 150mm version for STW riders?

I asked my 10yr old (who although isn’t actually very interested in riding is perfectly proficient with changing gears with the tripple on her hardtail) how long she reckoned it’d take most 10yr olds to get the hang of it if explained properly.. “Two, maybe 3 rides” was her answer “maybe more if it’s a boy” 😀

why not leave the Granny ring on and teach him what it’s for, and how to use the shifters (incl. soft pedalling).
teach him to wheelie, a granny ring can come in handy for wheelying up boring long climbs.

I definitely used to see the point in a full sus frame with a steel front end and alloy links, chain/seat stays, but that was back in the early days of DH where everything weighed a ton anyway and it all broke far too often and most manufacturers warranty dept didn’t give a shit.
The only advantage to a steel front end I can see is it’s ease of being repaired, but no one (bar maybe CynicAl) would ever bother having a frame re-welded, especially not the type of fashion/niche bandwaggon queue’ers that will buy this. and in these days of every single problem being posted online for all to see distributors/manufacturers are far happier to hand out replacements to keep their customers sweet.

If you read the marketing, Cy wasn’t stupid and didn’t actually make any claim of this being stiffer/stronger than a comparable weight Aluminium frame, just stiffer/more durable than his own previous abortion of a frame the Hemlock.

I happen to think 7.6lb is a decent weight for it’s travel and geometry, but I don’t really understand why anyone is bitching about full build weights, You could build a10lb DH frame into a full build weighing 30lb if you really wanted but you probably couldn’t ride it to anywhere near it’s potential safely without parts breaking. it’s the same with Hardtails and shorter travel sussers, why anyone would want a BFe or Rocket with XC strength/stiffness rims, weak sidewalled tyres, weak/flexy cranks or a light flexy stem for example is beyond my comprehension.

SNAP! My race BMX is a haro pro too.
    (see what I did there? ^^ )
Out of interest, how tall are you?

Talking of which, to the guy who asked about a bike to share with his 11yr old, unless you’re close in height, jist don’t! Get something each that fits. A decent BMX costs less than an mtb fork.
