NW – yes, two plate devices (if done well) work better than any other style of guide.

Ditch gloves, accept calluses for what they are and fit ruffian style lock-ons

I’m slightly lighter than you and run more like 155/150psi with 100mm rebas on a DJ hardtail (this is my xc bike too)
(I’m a DHer and like a firm fork for jumping) less psi and they wallow in the mid stroke, dive and blo through their travel far too easily.
IME moco damped rs forks can’t work well with slow rebound.

Struggling to fit them in the current fleet, got a Mitsubishi lancer estate and a civic at the mo and there is no chance, about a six inch overlap with the seats.

:? What child seats have you got?

I’d go for something like a decent nick s/h hydracoil judy from 1999/2000ish if you can find one.. light, decent damping for the time, reliable and they were easily reducable to 80mm internally

pretty much any 4 door car should do..
the 5yr old will be in a booster, 2yr old a group 1/2 seat and baby in a baby seat so long as you choose appropriately those 3 will fit alongside each other fine. you might want something with 3 3point belts in the back tho. and switch-off able passenger airbags.

It’s obvious to anyone without learning difficulties that my statement is my opinion.

“Chromag prototype frame with Rockshox lyrik soloair lowered to 150mm and set up stiff so as not to use all 150mm and ruin the handling

Love those videos, the Hardtail In Whistler is a classic and a good riposte to people who say long forked hardtails arent good for anything….they are fun bikes, pure and simple….they’ll never be as fast across country as a dedicated XC bike and they’ll never be as fast downhill as a FS-DH machine

Long forks on hardtails are gash

add “never flow, turn, pump or jump as well as a short travel 4X/DJ hardtail” to your list too.

would be great to slacken it a degree and steepen the seat angle.

for both you’ll need a hacksaw and hammer too. ;)

    ha ha…

of course a sticky manky chain will be less efficient than a clean lubed one.. “whether you can tell?” is hopefully what Al and Mark meant..

if not, remind us again, which bike shops do you two work in?

make sure she drinks plenty of water – and watered down fresh orange juice in the morning seems to help get things moving so to speak.

failing that smoking a wee roll-up usually helps ;)

Donk – What do you mean by chainring “switches”?
front gear shifts? or chainring replacement?

dunno about you but I can ride everything other than sustained/steep climbs in the 36T so only really drop to the 22T for seated climbing (more so when I’m fcked). I only run an 11-28 8 speed cassette on my “XC” bike and am pretty unfit (but fairly strong).

if you mean replacing from wear, I’ve never morn out a steel 22T ring quicker than the 36T alloy one

I’d hate the increased chain slap from the extra long chain length required with a massive range cassette.

    GW

I run that on one bike (11-32 cassette), end up using the granny ring far more than usual,

surely it’s only on there so you can use it?

use a deore steel 22T if wear worries you

sustained cadence has very little to do with going fast off-road!

2l plastic bottle (coke/irn bru etc.) gives enough material to cut a muckynutz copy.

actually, tesco do savers water in 2l bottles for the uber-pikey ;)

would you really run a 40T+ cassette sprocket clubber? :?

    GW

what’s wrong with good old compact rings and a non dinner plate cassette?
22/36 rings and a normal 8 or 9 speed cassette would give just as useable a range at half to a third the cost and weigh less.

Do you really need a top gear of 38-11?
22-34 is the same as 24-36

38 vs 44 loses about 15% top speed

funny that! DHers are able to hit 40+ with a 36T ring. are these mountain descents you do on roads?

mtbfix – can’t really see how it can be too early to get a bike (if she fits one) My youngest was riding scooters at 12mths, her balance bike at 18mths and a stabilized hotrock at around 2. Rode without stabilizers at 2 & 1/2 and at (almost) 3 still likes to ride her balance bike (and scooters) too.
