probably dumb question, but have you played with the bite point, (ie if you have to pull a lot of clutch lever to disengage clutch you could try adjusting the cable so that you need to pull less lever travel – so for the same pull there is more ‘disengagement’)

me and dad used to sea fish (handlines – cod/haddock/mackerel), or towing feathers for pollock, also used to spear flounders using a glass box and tv ariel pole

I’ve done river fishing (worms) but didn’t have the patience, mum was river with fly/bait and would nip off up the riverside on the raleigh shopper with rod, fags, sarnies, flask, books and come back 15 hours later sunburnt to buggery, midged senseless, caught nothing and had a great day …………. funny things people (*she also took noculars and bird books mind you)

as other tips and make sure you are nearer the door than the burner (so you can get out pronto *without going through fire source – so make sure door opens) and for ffs DO NOT EVER change the cylinder in the car. (*mum was a nurse and yes both occurrences really have happened in tents)

if you only want a brew you can get a 12v leccy kettle (yes they are painfully slow but they do work and berlingo has a 12v socket and they are for sale on ebay)

I have ‘2’ locals (*gf lives and I live seperately during week, so alternate weekends at each house – and we go down most weekends at hers(better pub) and some at mine and, and also the hockey club go to mine after the game at 10pm on Thu)

I think a ‘good’ pub is a true social amenity and yes without a shadow of a doubt it’s a hard time for them. (And I guess good varies per person)

I’d like to see something to encourage ‘social facility/inclusive pubs’, as a basic maybe intelligent vat/tax, on open alcohol sales – do something to help pubs, on closed alcohol sales – do something to control minimum pricing, so at least pub price is nearer supermarket and yes I know that falls down badly in the throbbing, 14-25 packed, standup then lie in gutter bars.

Wherever it is manage it on at least an annual basis.

Compare the charges on it with the market average.
Compare the growth it makes with the market average.
Moving stuff usually costs money so you need to add it all together and do the maths.

    Some Questions.
    – If your fund does 2% growth and the charges are 2.1% is your fund growing or shrinking.
    – do you like paying more than average
    – do you like getting less than average
    – do you think someone who is paid commision at point of sale or for transferring or an annual management % BUT not based on growth etc has your best interests at heart

    No

    See: http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/ourwork/access/rightsofway/prow/default.aspx

Off roaders used to have about 5% access (*Eng+Wal) prior to CROW etc, it’s been brought down to about 2% of the total ‘tracks’ available.

mtbers have got a LOT of free centres built for them
walkers have got 100%+ acess (the + comes from 100 and some ‘right 2 roam’, coming coastal path etc etc)

The way to improve offroad XC cycling in this country would be to eat into the MASSIVE 78% sole access that walkers have rather helping cripple another minority user.

I’d do a bit more digging as it might have been an ‘unofficial’ passing on.

However, if it wasn’t unofficial, and having had to deal with rather too many unsolicited (and aggressive)calls to my elderly/frail parents, where their details are being abused I may go as far as to suggest that you could potentially create a few adverts on some ‘dating’ sites where you could accidentally enter incorrect contact details

    on a slightly different front

a long time ago one of dads lorry driver mates was coming home one savage night, saw a hitcher, so stopped and offered a lift, he could drop him near home so off they went, hitcher thanked him, but didn’t say much, anyway they were cracking on and then grumpy plod intervenes, got a going over, speeding etc, anyway they restart and got to the drop off point and the hitcher said, ‘thanks very much for the lift, I widnae worry worry about getting a ticket’ and as he got out of the lorry he handed him the policemans notebook

    3 times for me

In my case (*as a single person):
    – stopped all uneccessary spending (takeaways etc etc)
    – use bargain bins for shopping etc bulk buys
    – did free computer courses at library
    – used library to read papers/mags, social contact get out of house
    – went round to mates for cups of tea etc (your real mates don’t need to meet for dinner etc)
    – forced (*well tried to) myself to go out (walking, biking), and mainly not lie on couch moping and watch daytime sht#
    – register with job seekers lot to make sure NI paid + 55?? quid a week (different if you rent I guess, so worth understanding/research)

    – cv up to date
    – daily job search (internet/papers etc) and DO NOT GIVE UP
    – be ready to tailor cv for any desired jobs
    – consider temping (post etc at Xmas)
    – consider being self employed
    – ring round old contact/mates etc

    – read local papers – free/daytime social events
    – ditto notice boards, library, etc
    – ramblers ….. etc
    – I did a lot more cooking – cheaper and time consuming

After the 3rd time I ended up going self employed, had to work abroad etc in lean periods but actually ended up better off after the initial stress wore off.

As a single I found the isolation most depressing(as I did stop a lot of social spending) and nobody to speak to during day hence my push towards doing stuff and getting out.

    Good luck.

prior to Satmap I had an old blue Gramin Etrex, OS position, route via arrow and waypoint, peppercorn trail of route done, fine if used in conjunction with OS and grid ref.

I got on fine with it, wanted a rolling OS map, spent lots, got frustrated by lack of screen size, so I still tend to whip out the map so I can get the big picture in my head.

oh, the old Etrex, it’s for sale by the way ….

compare fund with mkt average and then have a think

I suspect if nobody turned up/paid to enter they may review their position.

    Why can’t you improvise

A+B=C, so C drives to S1, at racestart-x, C-B gets left at start, C-A plus optional X,Y,Z drive to S2 and wait for C-B, once C-B arrives C-A, plus optional X,Y,Z then run to S1 whilst C-B drives to S1 to wait for C-A plus optional X,Y,Z, or they could have a T or P or both depending on facilities once C-A gets to S2 C can drive home.

    sharp intake of breath
why are you buying the freehold ?
I would take high quality and expensive legal advice.
    I wouldn’t.

What % of freehold will you own, what is your liability for freehold costs (insurances, roof, decoration etc etc), can the majority ‘freeholder’ shaft you – we need work done pronto, I have an independent, recommended builder Mr Mybrotherinlaw, it’s going to be 40K, (*well I’ll actually pay a lot less though).
What is the mechanism by which all freeholders agree on decoration, mgmt, rules etc etc etc.
Do you have any liability for ANYTHING that is not in your total control – building roof, drains, wiring, other tenants, costs, wet stair wells ……

Yes I have owned a flat, yes I did have a bad experience.

try a freeing agent like plus gas (soak overnight, use plasticine/chewing gum etc to build a soak reservoir)

try shock treatment (if you can get a hard surface mount point and bang with a centre punch)

*edit – you might, with a centre punch be able to put an indent in the outside of the bolt and then angle the centre punch so that when you hit it it undoes the bolt – my concern is there’s not much strong material in a shoe …)

then it’s drilling the bolt heads off

as I think politicians have moved away from bettering the country to bettering themsleves (at the expense of the country) and that the confrontational/sucks yah-boo/desperation to get elected means that parties deliberately and maliciously engineer problems for the next party I think a longer term solution is required, so I’d either go management committee (with pensions etc, salary clawback etc linked to country wellbeing) or for national lottery selection (everybody in country forcibly entered – they can either do 5 years as an mp or 5 years in prison)

understand the charges (and their impact) and the commission to be paid (and note that commision is paid on the amount invested and is NOT related to fund performace) and the performance of the various funds (*past performance does not always get lived up to…)

It can help to consolidate – as mgmt charges can do down on larger amounts, however I am not putting all my eggs in 1 basket (see Equitable Life for reason as to why)

I would read up on a SIPP – you have (*well you should have) a vested interest in the long term performance of your pension, all other parties have an interest in commission or management fees. Important note, if you would leave your bike in the garage for 25 years without an annual check/review etc and then expect it to be work perfectly when you wheel it out you are not suited to a SIPP, you need to work at owning a SIPP and a once a *edit full and complete *edit year review would be the absolute minimum IMHO.

I use similar to these (long ones)
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Clothes-Shoes-Accessories-/11450/i.html?_sac=1&_from=R40&_nkw=waterproof+boot+liners

they were called (*I think) welloes, and I got them X years ago for inside motorbike trail riding boots, imho better than other stuff (porelles etc) and thin enough to not knacker your shoe sizing

    I did Pont Scethin.
Tal-y-bont on A496, head N for 1/2 mile, R up road towards burial chambers, past ‘settlements'(which are S of you) sweep R to ‘standing stones'(*now come off cart track, boggy indistinct track, if you get near the ruin/house on the left of the cart track you’ve gone too far), Pont Scethin (distinct stone bridge), then S ish 572 spot height, to ‘settlement’ then R (easy to miss, rock sided etc a little before yellow road) then back W to start point – lovely little track down by river, at end it’s about 19 miles and say 800ish M ascent.

Downhills were a blast I couldn’t do a lot of the uphills – steep, big steps or loose scree (and lack of fitness + ability), in this weather the bit from the cart track to Pont Scetin might be unpleasantly boggy, **think** the rest will be mainly ok…..but I’ve ridden it once in summer.
