Does Discovery or Eurosport do a replay? I’ll be out when it’s on. Also don’t have a TV licence so can’t watch live ;)

Always wanted a gold top since wearing out my VHS copy of Iron Maiden live at the Rainbow. Finally got my Patrick James Eggle Macon Special 36 years later.

No worries @AdamT, the stem should have aligned with a 4 count prior to start. Apologies if I made it difficult.

Appreciate the efforts Adam. The syncing on my solo is out. Should sound like this. Was quite happy with so thought I’d post

Has anyone got any tips for sound recording on a phone?

Depending on the amount of phone recording you are doing, the Lewitt Connect 6 might be worth a look. Can be used as a high quality audio interface for your phone as well as PC

@eddiebaby Never tried a Kemper so can’t comment but I have tried Tonex obviously and have purchased the pedal based on being the best amp in a box sounds I’ve heard to date, and that includes expensive forays into load boxes and IRs on the amps I have.
On the subject of the You Tube reviews/adverts, it’s got a bit out of hand and I think the Tonex pedal could be the most hyped release yet. As you say if it ends up falling short of expectations then it will only help resale but my metric with these is do the sound inspire me to play and with the Tonex it’s been a resounding yes.
I think running it in the FX loop of the Stomp is a good solution. Would work well in the loop of a Plethora X5 too.

…and purchased Tonex pedal. Was downloading some captures from ToneNet last night and there are just so many great amps on there decided to get this for my live setup. Going to need a couple of FRFR cabs now.

@eddiebaby Have you seen the new Tonex pedal? Really tempted as have been a fan since trying the demo before Christmas and now have Tonex Max and the Axe I/O interface. Would be great to replace the models in my HX Stomp using the FX

It’s a basswood body with just a (very) thin ash veneer for prettiness.

The switch is a single coil simulation which brings in an RC circuit on one of the coils which effectively removes it from the audible spectrum but maintains it’s hum cancelling properties. I must say this is the quietist guitar I’ve ever played from a hum/noise perspective, Even my other guitar with a humbucker is a noisy bugger when sat in front of my computer but this thing is whisper quiet.

The Floyd works extremely well and tuning stability is better than my non-tremolo guitars. I honestly never touched the tuners for the first week. The roasted maple neck with graphite reinforcement makes it incredible stable.

    Smitten 😂

NGD. Had been eying up something Strat like for a while and after trying many I seemed to get on with the Charvel neck the best. Settled on the Japanese made Guthrie Govan San Dimas model as the versatility of the pickups combined with the superb tuning stability from the OG Floyd/locking tuners/well cut nut and the more classic lines of the San Dimas over the Dinky ticked all the boxes. So far so good and can’t seem to put it down.

Kinda spoilt for choice nowadays. I have a HX Stomp and an extra 2 footswitches which are set up to snapshot up and down, which leaves me one on the pedal for tap/tuner and 2 more to switch FX on/off. This is probably enough for me.
I love my HX Stomp at home but found it a bit lacking at a gig pre Xmas. Have got a first rehearsal with a potential new band tonight so will try the Stomp out in that setting as it probably just needs tweaking which as my current band don’t ever rehearse never happens. I’m leaning towards the FM9 now though if I’m going to be gigging more!!!!

Sorted for home though as my IK Multimedia Axe I/O arrived so I’ve been playing with the bundled Tonex Max software and been blown away by the captures. Joe Bonamasa’s old Dumble anyone? Don’t mind if I do. Crazy times.

Sonething about the QC makes me feel a bit meh.

It’s definitely a couple of firmware updates away from where it needs to be but it’s only going to get better.

Any opinions on high end floor modellers? Thinking about getting a Fractal FM9 or a Quad Cortex. Plan on trying a QC in Guitar^2 after Xmas but can’t try the FM9. Sure they’ll both be amazing

As mentioned ^^up there^^ I’ve been trying a few software modellers and ended up going with the IK Multimedia Axe I/O bundle with Amplitude 5 Max and (the star of the show and the reason I ended up choosing this) ToneX MAX.
ToneX is IKM’s answer to the Kemper Neural QC but decoupled from the hardware. I was absolutely blown away by the sounds I was getting straight away and at £340 all in with a new interface it was a no brainer for me. The Dumble model is fantastic.

Been trying a couple of software modellers this week and been impressed with the Neural DSP Rabea. Does some really nice less heavy tones as well as the eye ball popping heaviness expected of Rabea. The guitar synth is especially fun to play with and tracks very well on all but the fastest playing. 50% off for Black Friday too.
Helix native worth a look too at £200 or £100 if you own any HX hardware unit. link

Any of you ‘guitarists of singletrack’ posted a vid of yourselves playing in this long thread ?.

    probably ;)

Bit sloppy but fun to play and really hard to get a perfect take

    Worth considering?
“Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can now be installed in any 2014 model-year or newer Mazda vehicle that has the MAZDA CONNECT™ infotainment system”
Probably ridiculously expensive though. I got it done when I bought the car so just factored it in and it’s a worthy upgrade in my book but YMMV

@andeh, if Truefire was working for you why not spring for a subscription? I’ve considered it and will probably give it, or JTC Guitar a go in the near future.

Alternatively, the best thing for pushing my limits has always been writing and recording. Inevitably I will come up with an idea that is just out of reach of my technique and be forced to get it down to a high standard to capture a decent take.
The biggest driver with this though is ultimately having something to work towards which keeps you motivated.

I’m currently working on Eugene’s Trick Bag and it’s definitely improving my familiarity with the less stock arpeggios in that piece, i.e. all other than the Am and Dm which will hopefully result in me being more comfortable incorporating those shapes in my improv. But I may get bored before nailing the whole tune cause the last bit is insanely hard to maintain accuracy due to the large jumps. Having fun with it though.

Thanks so far. Should have said the reason I’m not considering the DMR is that it is fugly.
That would preclude those options too.

I was sure I’d seen a stubby hi-rise stem from a small manufacturer before but forgot where I saw it. Will probably order a higher rise bar (100mm) from Oddity and stick with my beloved Chromag Ranger V2 31mm

@mattyfez, Great bit of kit. I gigged with one throughout the 90s and was very upset when it died a static emitting death in the late 2000s. Should really have got it fixed but it sat and gathered dust and got hoofed when I moved house. They were very spendy in the 90’s. I paid over a grand for mine which would be Kemper + money by today’s standards

For me it’s a single arm cable crossover, high to low bringing the arm all the way across the body.

Wow that Lowden is stunning @sailor74. Used to work in a music shop in the 90s that stocked Lowden so was lucky enough to play a few but never rich enough to own one.

One of the ways you can relic a nitro guitar is heating the paint with a hairdryer then spraying compressed air on it. That cracks the lacquer on a nitro finish.

My Patrick James Eggle Macon Special has an ‘aged’ nitro finish from the factory. Don’t really think of it as relicing . It’s just a really cool finish IMO

Aberdeen Uni 2010-2015 MEng Mechanical Engineering with Subsea Technologies. The O&G part was only in my masters year and prior to that I didn’t find AU O&G heavy at all. Yes those courses are available but as others said the majority is quite traditional and there is a lot of choice to tweak the syllabus. It was still general first 2 years when I was there. I like that and enjoyed learning a bit of civil and electrical prior to specialising in the final 3 years and this has actually been pretty useful in my current job.
I ended up graduating just as oil prices hit the skids so left Afternoon and now work in a nuclear power station the future of which is pretty shaky in the Scotland.
I also played in a band during this time but a really cheesy cover band so can add no insight into the health of the ‘scene’

Very jealous @eddiebaby, would love a Kemper. Can’t shake the feeling I should have got one when I got the Boss Waza tube amp expander. For recording it sounds amazing using my Blackstart Artisan head as a source but not very every day friendly. I ended up getting a HX Stomp which I use all the time while the Waza is an expensive ornament. Be interested to hear how the Kemper is as a ‘daily driver’ (borrowed form the lifetime ban thread)

There is still no link between the vaccine and clots.

    From Gov.UK

Although this condition remains extremely rare there is a higher risk in people after the first dose of the AZ vaccine. To date and overall, just over 10 people develop this condition for every million doses of AZ vaccine given. This is seen more often in younger people and tends to occur between 4 days and 4 weeks following vaccination.

Heard from a friend that a very good friend of theirs died as a result of a blood clot after receiving the AZ vaccine. She went to the GP who was dismissive as she had a history of migraines.
If you’re experiencing headaches after the AZ, go the GP.

    Macon Special Gold Top

Guitar arrived yesterday and it is absolutely stunning which for a guitar retailing at north of £3k new shouldn’t be surprising.
This appeared 2nd hand just as I was about to go with a new one and scratches my long standing gold top itch as well as saving some money. Delighted.

Still on the lookout for a ‘nice’ guitar for my 50th. Dreams of a 2nd hand PJE Macon special/jnr are evaporating as there is slim pickings at the moment.
Currently being drawn to the Suhr Alt-T which despite not originally wanting to go down the tele route as my Crimson Descendant covers that base, the dual humbuckers on the Alt-T seems like a pretty versatile setup. Plus it’s stunning!!!!

Some cool suggestions of things I’ve not heard of. The Dean Zelinksy particularly looks really interesting.
I agree that at £2K my budget may be a little low for what I want so if I can resist, I may hang on until the end of the year when (hopefully) gigging can resume and I can add some gig money to the budget and get the Eggle that I really want. In the meantime, once guitar shops re-open it will be fun to try stuff and you never know what you’ll stumble across and fall in love with.

Not ruling out a strat but I’m leaning more towards the Les Paul style. The Pelham Blue Maybach looks stunning but not a fan of the aged finish.
The other option is to sell my Crimson and maybe AN Other and get the Eggle that I really want. As my 5 year goal is based around recording, my current collection, although not particularly sexy, is versatile enough to cover most bases.
