Awesome, glad it helped. XO traditional style is a similar design too

Cheers boys, I’m with ya. If I can integrate the shifter onto the brake at least, I’ll have a bit more space for the reverbs own clamp.

For reference/anyone else searching, I ended up with an X9, traditional band on. Gives more clearance as the bulk is offset to the outside of the seat tube. Think XX is similar if anyone cares 🙂

Another CB Lobo here, it’s great. Room for pump, tube, tools, food etc and light n easy when less full. Great pack, magnetic straw catch is super useful too

Cheers guys, but aren’t side swing front routed cables only? My frame is too routed cabling.

I’ve got a Pro XCR carbon on one bike and it’s great, really smooth, they do a few lengths too I think.

slug – Of course I would but will see if my lead on buying one comes good

Rob – tapping it off will put a bit of force on the soft splines as it’s not pulling evenly, so it may work but not ideal.

Cheers guys very much appreciated!! I’m down in Sussex, should’ve said, sorry!

Might have a lead on one to buy…

Ok starting to make sense. If you’ve got to go double due to your shifter… Why not put your granny back on, I assume a 26 or 24 tooth, plus a 36/38/40 in the middle position and leave out the big ring? A 40-11 is still a pretty fast gear, then you’ve got the granny for climbing. May need to adjust chain line slightly though

Swanny – yep small triple or small double with a closer ratio cassette does it for me. At the mo I’m on 20-30-40 with an 11-32. Would be happy with a smaller ring than 40 though, and would like closer ratios still.

Each to their own, if you don’t mind the jumps then 1x is great, but I like the closer ratios to help keep a nice cadence.

If I were you I’d just put the granny ring back on rather than buy a wider spaced cassette.

You surely don’t need a gear higher than 48-11? so why bother with the expense and hassle of a new 34/50 chain set?

Square taper will work with the right BB length.

    What are your requirements/problems?

I’d go external BB triple or MTB compact double with a closer ratio rear cassette above a road compact. Few can spin out a 50-11 top gear, but most will crave/need Smaller than a 34T ring when climbing…

Yes. But also sounds like you still have air in the system, probably at the caliper

    100% agree with rusty spanner.

For most people’s riding, a 1x makes little sense. The best gear setup is a wide enough range to suit your climbing/flat/descending needs with as close as possible ratios to maintain a good fast cadence. You won’t get that with a 1x. You have to sacrifice range or jumps in ratio.

Another vote for NW. The artics are that little bit warmer, but both versions are good.

Stiffer sole than the others too which is essential for me when using clipless.

Just wish they were a bit wider for my club feet, but they’re certainly not narrow.

If you do end up doing the roof, don’t get the basic eg felts etc, go EPDM rubber, GRP etc, its worth it.

Other way round not so bad, but yeah match blocks to chains, chain rings are more versatile though as less precise

Ciao ragazzi! I’m half itai so know a few spots, but totally depends on what you want. Lido di camaiore is nice but has gotten a bit posh over recent years, but generally I’d prefer to head south… Salerno, Sorrento, Ischia are all beauts. And right near Napoli if you want some action…

Cheaper down south, better weather, nicer people and better grub.

Eat in trattorie not ristoranti, learn a bit of the lingo and make an effort to have a laugh with them and it’ll go a long way. Laugh at the England football team too, they love that in Italy ha.

I’ve got a road morph, it’s pretty good, does the job on road and MTB tyres, a bit slow on MTB but it’s a thin road pump.

Only gripes are the extendable hose is not long enough so you have to get super close to the rim/valve and the T-handle wants to fold back in on every stroke. 2 stupid design glitches there but it gets the job done.

I think daffy and I are nearly there, we’re thinking a summer wedding and of course you are ALL invited

Mb51 – haha no it’s not quite that bad, fraud is a different level to a rushed description, some honest mistakes and a few maintenance/condition issues.

If anyone cares we are getting along ok and I’m sure a treaty will be signed soon. All weapons are idle for now although I think Trump is wanting to nuke both of us, perhaps his most intelligent thought to date.

Oh and I do believe him when he says it was the rushing of the sale/ad etc that’s caused the problems, and I’m sure this is the exception rather than the norm for his sales on here.

newrobdob – I’m not sure that’s fair just yet, as I said it felt a bit turbulent earlier but I think it will be resolved fairly.

I will of course update, I’ve never had any intention of causing anyone hassle or trouble, I only wanted some opinions on what was just, and if I was right to feel peeved.

I think it’ll be ok as the last email I had from daffy seemed a genuine and sensible one. And again, he has never been a scammer or anything, it was just whether or not he should pay the costs if it goes back, or agree a partial refund to sort. I’m sure one or the other will happen soon.

So leave Del alone for now!

Codybrennan – haha years of training, you just know. But some Ti bolts are really the least of the problem, and in hindsight maybe a bit picky, but I was just so peeved at the unmentioned saddle/tyres/skewer/pedals swaps/omissions and different travel/model fork etc.

Anyways I’m sure we’ll get it sorted. As many have said life’s too short and as MTBers we need to be making love not war.

    guglielmo

To be fair to daffy most of what he says above is about right although my £350 partial refund suggestion did include the value of the missing Time ATAC pedals, fork service and bushings, shot hub bearing replacement, time/cost to remove sheared bolt from hub, brake rebuild, lower fork model difference etc.

I think maybe we are getting somewhere now although the apologies/admittances weren’t apparent in our earlier messages.

I do believe it was down to him rushing it and not checking stuff properly rather than trying to rip me off. Although I can’t quite get the “have this lovely steel spesh instead of the nasty SLR Titanium, nice sir” thought process when swapping saddles for instance…

But I’m hopeful we will sort it fairly, with daffy covering all postage costs if the bike goes back, or an agreed partial refund amount so I can sort the problems and ride the thing if it stays. That’s all I ever wanted. So please reserve judgment/flaming until we’ve sorted it like gents.

But no doubt, swapping stuff out without agreement is not on, regardless.

scotroutes – thanks but I’ve been on here and posting on and off for many years 😉

I paid by bank payment, I trusted the seller, talked to him first, checked him out, seemed a decent guy, knowledgeable about bikes etc. The kind of guy you’d be pleased to buy high end gear from.

As for all the faults/problems I pointed out, he simply says he didn’t know about them and it seemed to ride ok when he last rode it a few weeks prior to sending.

    “Pedals not included”

    guglielmo

    Exactly crankboy. Seems fair.

    guglielmo

I don’t want a witch hunt, and want to give the seller the chance to do the right thing.

I suggested a reasonable partial refund, he agreed but offered to give less than half what I requested and was adamant that the pedals and saddle were never included.

He also suggested I wanted him to pay to make a used bike an immaculate bike but that’s simply not the case – I just want what was advertised in good used condition, working well.

Let’s be fair though he’s not running to Brazil with my money, he has offered to refund, but isn’t prepared to reimburse any postage costs.

I’m happy to return it, but his mistakes/parts omitting/swapping/lack of describing the true condition are the cause of the problem so he should pay the postage. No doubt.

I must admit I’m getting pretty frustrated. It all seems like just figures to him as he’s stated he can get x amount in parts rather than to put things right with me.

Seller is (was?) a seemingly decent, long standing STW member and active poster.

    He has just said

“I have sold tens of thousands of pounds worth bikes on STW and eBay over 12 years of mountain biking without any problems or complaints.”

Someone so experienced should no doubt have also noticed and mentioned the many faults needing attention – leaking and knocking forks, a sheared disc bolt stuck in the hub, rocking cranks with worn out BB bearings to name just a few of the problems…

    🙁

    guglielmo

Not Ebay, on here sadly, which makes it a bit more gutting. I always think of people on STW as the same people I say hi to or help out out on the trails.

Postage was quite a lot, much more than £20, so definitely not fair that I should pay it.

I’ve tried many winter boots but settled on the NW Celsius being the best for me as it’s warm, wind proof, water proof enough and importantly has a very stiff sole, much better than any other boot for use with clipless pedals IME
