meehaja – I agree with that in principle as that’s what I do, it was merely whether the XTR would be a silly upgrade over the Saint with commuting in mind.

Well, I’ve been commuting on UST Minions for the last year so I’m fine with stuff like that. I didn’t really think about cassette, I think without a doubt I’d be going for an XT or SLX cassette good shout.

I know the XTR front chain rings are very expensive, but my current one lasted a year and a bit, should I expect the same?

Yup! Bought a DSP Dueller for my Orange Alpine 160 at the end of 2010 I think. Absolutely loved it! Changed my riding completely, going to sound like I’m pitching a sale but it’s purely as I enjoyed having it so much.

Have now sold it with my frame, but I’ll be honest, as soon as my new one arrives. I don’t think I’ll be able to resist picking up another one.

Highly recommended. As mentioned above also, Simon from Loco was nothing but brilliant with every aspect of it.

Haven’t used the Elixirs, but any Avid brake I’ve owned, tried, borrowed, I’ve absolutely been disappointed in.

It’s the complete opposite for me with Shimano brakes. Loved them and so ended up buying the full saint range.

IA – Ah just checking thought I might have misread something somewhere.

b r – I want something stronger than that, I do venture out to freeride/northshore and don’t want to feel too vulnerable.

Am I correct in thinking there’s an aspect to it that is ‘more UST’ than my EX721 set-up?

Definitely not lightweight, average on 15stone. I like to run 2.5 Maxxis USTs and believe these are fine on Flows?

I havent had a problem with my EX721a, just think I’d appeciate the fully UST rim and weight saving. I’m pretty certain black runs on the likes of Coed-y-brenin etc Flows will be fine.

Oh I definitely wont do them myself 😀

Right I might just do the swap then, if no I’ll sell it on 🙂

Hose go is it to make a comment? I just want to make sure things keep fluid, the culprit needs to figure out a formula so things can go back to normal, although hayes had enough chances in my opinion…

Hmmm, well most of my attire is ‘gnar’ orientated over xc, so I imagine the goggles wont look that out of place from baggy shorts etc.

Thinking it’s worth a try, I’ll look less stupid then the ‘crashed in a bush because I couldn’t see through fog’ look.

    …I hope.

    GSuperstar

Ha, I was expecting a few more comments about looking stupid.

I’m wondering if maybe the oakley lens I use maybe have lost a coating or something? Would a scratch in the lens affect this kind of thing?

Anti-fog might be wroth a look. I’ve always bypassed that stuff as I’m in the paintball industry and the stuff is usually crap.

RealMan – I’m a heavy sweater, and a confident rider, speed isn’t a problem they fog regardless.

See I’m used to having goggles round my neck from downhill. But I suppose not for the same duration we’re talking.

lA – That’s a fair point I suppose they would fog up around the neck.

It’s just one of those infuriating things for me.

Stop riding downhill sat down, not moving your body at all and barely pedalling. It’s just lazy and slow. Sell the skill compensator, buy a hardtail and practice!!!

But this is all from your belief that they wish to aspire and be better than they are, what if they’re happy?

    GSuperstar

Ah ok. It does seem strange that they wouldnt do a direct mount version of a specific double and bash though?

wwaswas- Hard to say, but I think its as they compress it makes the noise.

Will have a look at who can service.

Thats a pretty good price actually.

Well I think this can only be an advantage to me, I’ve had a Park Tool cheaper one for the last couple of years and only ever failed completely with one new tyre, all others have gone up instantly or eventually, so maybe this will irradicate all issues 🙂

    So just to clarify, this:

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/topeak-joe-blow-mountain-track-pump/#more

Will be more help when inflating Tubeless tyres then just a standard track pump due to its oversized barrel?

    Thanks

Dave – I even did a search under superstar hose and I swear that didn’t come up! Much appreciated 🙂

Sticky – Ok I’ll take the bukyness into account, for the amount of hose you get it seems a bargain.

Really does look nice! I like that the red is almost subtle, not as ‘in your face’ as most colour accents.

    Top job.

Northwind – Thanks for your advice. I always buy official UST tyres anyway.

    So to summarise.

The Flows with a yellow tape, become tubeless ready rims with a bead.

The current EX721s with Stans No Tubes, are the same except dont have the bead? Which presumably make them not as ideal as the Stans?

    GSuperstar
    Free Member

Ok first impressions of the flows actually look pretty good! Weight seems good as well.

How exactly do they work? If I remember correctly the Mavic ones needed no tape. Do these still have to have a tape fitted?

Does this pretty much mean the flows will end up just like by EX721s are at the moment?

    Thanks

I do currently run my EX721s tubeless just for the record, but just liked the idea of it all being done for you.

I’ll have a look into stans flows.

See I like to think that my riding is slightly ‘Gnarr’, and the Ex721 have stood up so far, the 819s I like due to the weight saving, but then I’m worried that if they’re only All Mountain and my riding drifts away from that then I’ll end up regretting it.

On the flipside, the 823s will be even heavier than my 721s which, arent particularly light.

Having your chain break, in the height of summer, next to a resevoir, while in shorts and tshirt, is the least desirable place to imagine.

…I counted at least 100 midgie bites, I get itchy just typing this…
