wwaswas – Quick ebay search, there seems to be RL / SL / RLT etc, anything in particular known as better than others? Or more suited to my friend?

Funny this post came up I received my Intense Tracer 2 last week, looks beautiful to me. A couple of guys who are in the building trade / enthusiasts of motorbikes etc, first thing they said was ‘wow that’s amazing welding’, and spent the next 5 minutes looking at the welds.

Something I don’t notice but I suppose those that are into it?

Ahhh that could be why Butcher UST doesn’t bring up many purchase points online!

Would like to stick to fully UST tyres.

greeble have you found a place to purchase the Butcher? I might be being stupid but I can’t see an online seller!

That looks a brilliant choice actually I never thought of going Specialized.

The tyre seems to be lighter than Minions as well.

Will do some further research but thanks for the heads up.

bluebird – I’ve never been a massive fan of RP23s, I always thought I liked them until I started using coil shocks.

I always presumed the coil would be hell on uphills as no pro pedal as such, but I found that it tracked loose rocks that well that for my style of riding it actually benefitted me on the ups.

Obviously each to their own and that, but if you ever get the chance to use one I would really urge you to, the weight difference isn’t life threatening and I really think a coil transfers most bikes, especially ones aimed at aggressive all mountain like the Tracer2.

Feel free to email me on my profile addy if you have any other doubts 🙂

Rugbydik – If it helps you save money at all, I bought my new Tracer2 with a Cane Creek Double Barrel, it’s amazing… that is all 😀

No pressure… but you should buy one.

Hora – there is a very good chance of that! Lol.

Bikebuoy- thanks mate. It was either play it safe with white or take a risk with can am yellow, I’m also glad I took a chance 😀

I was looking at the SS2 as a possibility, but the lack of front mech was the decider. If my riding was purely downhill orientated the SS2 would be as amazing I’m sure.

Took her out for an urban spin last night, there’s nice step jumps round me and she literally takes everything in her stride. So pleased!

geetee – People are going to hate me now… but I just dont like the look of them! I’ve tried so hard to admire them, and I understand the history of them and how much work goes in to the build, but unfortunately just not to my taste.

    (Awaits the STW hatred cru)

    Thanks mherbie 🙂

Though I appreciate every comment. Obviously everybody is different in various ways and riding styles are one of them. For me riding has always been about the downhill, I only ride up to go back down 😀

Until hopefully end of this year going to go Val D’isere or Les Gets as long as my friends don’t bail 🙂

    I like saint 🙂

XTR, considered it but I like the ‘longitivity’ of Saint products, they’ve never let me down and weight wasn’t really a concern fortunately.

That bit tougher to the top of the hill, for that bit more fun and confidence to the bottom 😉

That’s a strange thing to say?

As you’ve said yourself it’s a trail bike not a DH Specific ride, so a 50mm stem on ups would be a bit of a let down, whereas a 70mm stem on the downs really doesn’t slow steering significantly.

A 100mm stem and I’d agree slightly with your comment. But I’m not sure why the Saint or Minions would be the basis of your decision?

    …IMO 🙂

Hora – Not at all, I managed to get the forks for £620 off STW actually, ridden once so I was pretty lucky with them really.

No it’s my work place which I’m very luckily allowed to keep my bike stuff at 😀

Electrical cabinets they are. Still not sure on the Orange 5 connection though I am aware theyre hated a lot on here 😉

messiah – I am stupidly tempted, I kind of want to see what the Kronolog reviews come out like!

Damn the seatpost! Will have that changed 🙂

Nothing up with the 160, I really loved it and still would ride one. Just fancied something new, loved Intense bikes for a while now and thought I’d treat myself 😀

Ok I’m confused with the Orange 5 remark, I can only presume the rubbish pile in the background?

Although I do like orange 😀

It was more my capabilities on the DH I was putting as light 😉 lol.

The brand new Blackspire chain guide I bought didnt sit well with the Saint cranks, so ended up ditching that idea(scratched it lightly with the bolts so no refund, that’ll be going up for sale soon lol).

I’m put an order in for the Bionicon guide, got to wait a month and a bit though.

Not sure on weight yet, will try and get that nailed tonight. Comes up lighter than my Alpine 160 did though from the feel.

Use, everything, Natural singletrack, trail centres, northshore and light DH.

Sorry to Thread J, PaulD, are those items you’re talking about purely for where they connect to the derailleur? As opposed to where they connect to the shifters?

    Thanks

    Solved!!

My colleague just so happened to have a brass fitting in his cars Plug-in Compressor that screws on the end of the presta to make it Schraeder 😀

Should come in handy for future use pumping tyres!

See its for tubeless so the whol ‘build up pressure’ bit is a bit of a no go.

Will look at a new pump!

Should have said when I bought my wheels they came with with the smaller adaptors (9mm/15mm I think) and I bought the 20mm ones separately to use with my pikes.

CBruce – I could be wrong but I think the adaptors dont cross over from ProII to Evo Pro II, there’s a seperate item on CRC called the ‘Evo Adaptor’.

My new Flows came with Evos and a 20mm with them, but for the rear I’ve had to purchase the ‘evo’ adaptor.

    Hope this helps.

I apologise Schweiz wasn’t aware you could ‘upgrade’ XTR!

On that note, OMG HOW MUCH IS THAT STUFF?!

XT on your mountain bike and use the spare money to buy a more suitable commuting bike?

Again, from the very first post…

currently choose to have 1 bike, due to many things, but mainly space and money

    GSuperstar

Why would you use XTR? Shimano do a commuter specific range of components called Yumeya which will bring you substantial performance benefits on your daily grind.

    Cheers
    Schweiz

Because if you read any of my previous comments you will see that commuting is only a minute part of what the bike is used for 😀

    GSuperstar

I’ve only one bike and its full XTR, but if I was commuting 45 miles per day I’d put slicks on a spare set of wheels, cassette possibly too.

It’s 45minutes per day, not miles.

njee – Yeah I think you’re correct, I’m almost at the point where I’m not even classing it as a commute, and if I think of it as a fun 45 minute urban ride everyday, suddenly the XTR being bad concept doesn’t even come into it.

    Think I’m sold 😀

    GSuperstar

I wouldn’t buy an XTR groupset purely for commuting, but then I wouldn’t buy an MTB for commuting!

Njee- I agree as I wouldn’t either, but then this is my bike for eevrything, lets face it 45 minutes round trip isnt ridiculous by any means in terms of commuting. However the benefits would be for my riding elsewhere on the weekends and week nights, which is literally once a week minimum.
