    @sofaking

100% insured. Spoke to them on the phone and agreed it, had the documents through withing 5 days with all the information on and £5100 insured.

Origially had insurance for £3700, cost me an extra £27 a year to up it to the new amount.

Might be worth you calling them?

My bike is insured for just over £5000, this covers away from home also if stolen, I’m with Legal And General. (L&G)

Hmmm, so it’s just a choice of whether I want to be totally safe from it or half risk it.

I’m thinking with the Saint rear mech being super short cage as well then there’s even less chance?

Hmmm ok. Will risk and stay with the 36 then 🙂

Please mention what they did with the brakes, you’ve made me curious 😀

Fantastic, you lucky man 😉 Original question was purely out of jealousy by the way 😀

No worries I will get my order in.

    Thanks

Hob Nob, may I ask how you have said item in your possession already? Who was it ordered through?

    Thanks!

Well it would appear I have been misinformed.

Yay! The world makes sense again 🙂

    Thanks all!

DMR Vaults and 5.10s, I actually feel I’m clipped in!

    I agree, very obvious.

Also has had the same affect on me 🙁 I want to be there 🙁

Righttttt, I wasn’t aware of the duplicate gears this makes a lot more sense! It was always the unaccounted missing gears that added to my confusion so thanks for that.

The new Saint gearing offers a 34T upwards for 1 x 10, so judging by your comments and ac282s advice if I can make do currently not using my bottom 3 gears while in my granny ring, then I should be ok with a 1 x 10.

    Officially wiser! Thank you!

    ac282 – Is that with a 32 or 34 upfront?

    Thanks for all the replies!

mboy – Half way through typing I did feel I may have gone about this all wrong 🙂

Ok your explanation seems straight forward, the only bit I’m getting cofused with time and time again is, if I lose my 2 easiest, and lets say my top end gear. in theory from 18 gears I’d be left with 15 of my current. Is this because on 2 x 9 setups theres a lot of duplicate gear rations when in the small and when in the middle?

rootes – Ok I think I could work out what I’d loose, if I can figure out how the 22×32 for example = 17.8″, what mathematical method is used for this calculation?

Bradley – It’s no overthinking I really care about, it’s working out roughly how many high and low gears I’ll be losing out on.

I’ll be honest that link hasn’t helped 🙁

No… ‘Listen/Read’… Every entry into the competition must start with the ‘Giant video bumper’.

Giant haven’t filmed this, just given the bumper to be used before, regardless of the video, regardless of if it gets picked as the top 50 etc…

The competition is to win a Giant Bike, every entry into the competition uses the same start-up sequence I believe.

Hmmm now that I can’t remember, I believe Simon from Loco did change some of the settings based around the fact he knew I was riding an Alpine 160. Not quite so ‘custom tuned’ more just, set up correctly on the right rebound etc for my frame 🙂

Are you purchasing brand new or second hand, just if it is new I would recommend Loco, made it a very easy purchase 🙂

If it’s any consellation I felt that the Diverse was perfectly set-up for my Alpine, I tweaked a couple of things which is very easy to do. I now have a CCDB on my Tracer 2 and it’s a lot more confusing and harder to make those adjustments so quickly, but of course is a brilliant shock also.

Couldnt have a better answer for you here 🙂

I fitted one to my Alpine 160 and absolutely loved it, bought from Loco Tuning.

If you go on their website I think my review is still quoted on there, I unfortunately cant save you the time as my work blocks their web address.

But in short, yes it’s an amazing shock, don’t et the price make you think it’ll underwhelm, it really made the bike come into it’s own.

    Hope this helps 🙂

My Tracer 2 is a medium and I’m 5 10′, perfect fit if that helps?

Wow thank you both for the in depth comments. It’s going on a coil Tracer 2 if I end up purchasing so weight wouldnt bother me that much.

The whole not sure if 1 x 10 is enough is my exact thought on this purchase being better.

I’m going to have another read through both comments after work and have a good think about my bank balance 🙂

    Thanks again.

Hmmm interesting on the Granny ring point, I never even considered that. I’ll have a search to see if anybody else experiences the issue as it would definitely be worth knowing.

Might have a look at the flatboys.

Silver ones as in raw DMRs, they dont really show scratches.

Apologies for the ‘there’ spelling also, edit to *Their*, posted in a rush 😉

I think they have a pretty good following in the mtb world, I don’t really know of anyone that thinks there stuff isnt good for its intended use (weight issues aside).

I just think as they already have the seat collar, the QR Lever should’ve made an appearance by now.

Ha, sorry wwaswas! I put it in bold so people would presume your comment was prior to it 😉

@shortcut – Yeah but Thomson are beautifully understated in their design like something from the past so QR just seems so suited!

    @cookea

What if in your terminology, the modern day slacker didnt spend that 2 hours playing COD or having a sly whatever, but instead were out on their bike for an extra 2 hours?

Obviously you’re still going to be highly disappointed in them for not being as mechanically aware as you are but, adds a different viewpoint to the situation here.

I’m somebody that likes to learn how things work and attempt them, but I also know a lot of people who dont care how things work until they stop.

Doesnt really affect me though, I don’t get annoyed about it?

    Thanks for your input deanfbm

Taking into account what you’ve said, I believe the kids height is about 5’7/8, would :

Seem like a pretty ideal bike in terms of style, size, design etc. Obviously I understand there are so many different factors that can go into this so it’s pretty much in a nutshell type of answer?

    Thanks again!

That makes a lot of sense. It’s apparently a surprise present from his grandfather so can’t find out those details that would help the purchase.

Cult and Sunday both sound like good choices.

_tom_ – What would you compare Sundays with in the MTB world?

Is this the discounted one thats good?

Thanks for the replies, this really is something I know quite literally nothing about.

Is Cult the equivelant of a Specialized, or Santa Cruz/Intense type of purchase?
