The 2010 Alpine I had was 16 but I had to have a layback thomson seat post which I hated. I’m hoping with the longer top tube I could get away with a 16 and normal post. Guess I’ll have to find a demo day somewhere.

    Ah ok.

Shaggmiester – Did you say that size frame is a 16″?

I’m 5’10”, think I could get away with the 16 too?

I’ll be honest. I’ve started to miss my old Alpine 160, looking back I think I was most confident on it.

2014 version I’ve really not liked, not a fan of the straight top tube at all. Hated it on the PAtriot too.

However! RDL-82… that actually looks stunning!

    Ah definitely had me there!

Well the main factor is that we’ve been to North Wales for the last 6 years. If we get 4 rides in it’s usually the ones listed in my first post.

I’m thinking south Wales would offer a new lease of life for visiting different non-mtb places, and Afan alone seems to have 3 trails of interest, with cwmcarn offering another couple.

I might have to add up the votes at the end of this one for and against 🙂

@Junkyard – Can you be a bit more specific? Google maps brings up loads of places…

Thanks geetee, I’ll have a few more reads through that. If my CCDB is fine then I guess I’ll have a better play with it. It’s one of those, if it’s not going to benefit the weight saving is so minimal it’ll be pointless.

Hi, do these come with the hoses etc?

Alex – I’ve just bought the Specialized Butcher Controls from Northwinds recommendation. I’ll keep my minions in case I really dont get on with them.

Kiwifiz – Lol, thanks for your tyre comments 🙂 The only reason I’m going to stay away from Lusts is I still want to be able to do the DH trail every now and again, it just wont be regular. And I hate changing tyres all the time… 😀

    Thanks

kiwifiz – If you actually read the original post, it states:

“My local trail will now be Cannock”, meaning that it wasn’t before. It was a downhill track with north shore, where 2.5 stickies actually come in quite handy.

As well as Minions 2.5s actually matching up to standar tyres 2.2/3s.

So I hope this answers your ‘gnar at cannock’ question 8)

    Also… I see o my search:

    Butcher Control

    Butcher Control 2Bliss

    Which are you referring to?

No I think your fixations are good and it’s a mental thing for me lol. I do ride Blacks, but then that’s ‘uk’ blacks which I’m sure are nothing compared to les arcs etc.

Faster and better rolling are my main goals, so if in your experience the Butcher will uphold these traits and still have good grip (Minions are possibly over grippy), then I’ll have a look for a pair. I suppose I can always sell them to you cheaper if I don’t like them 😉

I wasnt aware of that, I do run sealent in mine anyway for punctures.

I have heard good things about the Butcher, and come to think of it I believe I was turned off it because it wasn’t ‘UST’.

Is getting the Butcher however, going to be only marginally better than the minions?

    Hi Northwind.

Currently running 42a upfront and 60a out rear.

Ok will have a look at the Butcher Control, tubeless ready shouldn’t be a problem I dont think. (I actually didn’t know there was tubeless ready? Whats the difference?)

See I think because I’ve used 2.5 Minions for the last 2 years everywhere I go I just accept them, whereas I know in essence I’m just making it harder for myself.

Thanks for the reply, I don’t want to go below 2.35 and the crossmark dont seem to do one in that size.

I don’t need skinny xc tyres, just something slightly faster/lighter than Minions, but without sacrificing too badly on the grip.

    Hi Max

Ok thats good to know. Think I might just stick with K:I
ium then, I don’t crash a lot but you know what will happen if I went with the carbon.

I have just read that they offer 2 Year warranty on all saddles, so I guess the carbon could always be warrantied if broken?

The carbon holds a specific colour that I like, which is why I have the dilemma 🙁

See I’m coming from an SDG Bel Air, just thought there might be things out there that I’ve not experienced that I’m missing out on 🙂

I did once run a Gobi XM I think, but snapped it landing a jump very badly. Might have another look into that option 🙂

Doesn’t matter just seem them I’ll have a look into them just don’t stand out as much as the pro star series but it’s not a problem. I’ll stock with the sdg and stop trying to spend one for no reason 🙂

njee20 – In response to the Crest suggestion, how much of a battering have these been known to take? I know they’re listed as the xc version, which doesnt sound ideal for DH?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m no champion racer or even close, but rocky trails are a personal fav and speed is how I enjoy riding (other than uphill).

    I have a feeling I’d destroy a crest.

Would definitely be a nice addition, I’m currently running a CCDB Coil, but air shocks always appeal for their weight, could be a good mix of both.

Hmmm I see your point. Ignoring the stiffness benefit, A 100 grams in the grand scheme of things is very little when compared to the price differences.

Or is the Monarch Plus RC3 a copy 😉

Regardless, I agree, DHX Air gets bad press everywhere, and with downhill air shocks becoming more and more popular in the DH scene and AM, would be a nice addition.

I think the main thing was, the tech video I watched warned about putting it in straight as to not snap the barb, so I just presumed it was a weak item but evidently not that weak 🙂

    YES!!!!!!! DONE IT!!!

hairyscary I thank you! Having the hose attached by an elastic band to the bar let me use both hands to screw in (tricky shape to screw the push button)

    Thanks for the help!

dirtyrider – I’ll have a look after work as I’m blocked here for ebay.
    What’s the reason for sale?

So are Chris King that good? I love my hopes, but I know they’re not that light. However for the ease of maintenance and parts.

Anybody build up Pro2s on Enve rims?

    I only have a shift on the right as I use 1 x 10.

Carlos – Thank you, for costing me money in the purchase I’m about to make 😉

    Thanks though! 😀

Mister – It’s stock availability that determines this unfortunately 🙁

Carlos – Brilliant! So the MMX version just detaches and you then have a standard clamp? No need for any extra parts?

    Thanks

gee – I have done a bit, running 1 x 10 but like i said full New Saint, 203 rotors, Thomson, CCDB. So instead of just saving a pound here or there, I thought why not go fully for it 🙂

Hob – Oh ok I wasn’t aware of that, 142 means I can use my current set.

    Oh decisions.

Hob nob: Thanks for the honest review! I actually just saw your bike and that picture posted on the mtbr forum lightweight thread.

How tall are you if you don;t mind me asking, and what frame size? I might check up the TT and BB height compared to the Tracer2, that way I guess I could figure out if the sizing will bother me?

In regards to remedying the geo, they’ve just released the 2013 spec colours so presuming until sea otter in October time would be the release?

    GSuperstar
    Free Member

I had to google, clever 😉

Ok I’m currently looking at places to test ride or at least sit on. I bought the Tracer2 without testing but that’s perfect as a medium, at 5’10 I seem to be an ideal height for most mediums.
