A colleague lives off the interest on his savings, so he’s saving his entire salary every month. When I last caught sight of his pay slip, the net salary began with a 3.
The way to achieve this seems to be to never move out of your parents’ house and to be in your early 50s.

I have a friend that still lives with his parents, he has just swapped his exige for an early gallardo!

I live in the midlands where houses are cheap fortunately my outgoing consist of £1000 into a joint account with my girlfriend, she also pays in £1000 and that covers the mortgage, bills, food etc for the month.

If she ever left me and I move back home I think I’d buy a gallardo to though lol.At least for a short while before buying another house.

By foraging and bartering, somedays I ate little, others very well.

+1, it’s amazing what you can blag from generous people. People at work used to ask if I wanted anything from the shop, I used to say ‘I’ve got no money but I’ll come for the walk and fresh air’ more often than not people will offer to buy you something.

Infact met up with an old colleague on friday and bought them lunch to return the favour lol

You can get some nobbers that bring bring out the small violen joke too. Although it’s often no joke for the person involved.

You should have stocked up on tokens before the price rise

I’ve never used it, just recall the price.

I have a jet wash in my boot… actually that’s a lie, although someone I often ride with does.

Also gsp1984 – what the hell do you do?

I work for the offshore industry, unfortunately I have to travel a lot, but fortunately when I am traveling I’m not spending my own money.

    So swings and roundabouts.

Who knows if the kid was telling the truth and had two singles and showed the wrong one, he wasn’t exactly given the chance to prove himself.

Either way, the force used was a little excessive. You can see in the video he was pretty much thrown on his face in a completely unprovoked attack, he was sat there, it’s not like he was kicking off and pushing people about.

I earns between £1600-£2200 a month, my bills, including car, rent, gym, elec, sky, broadband, mobile…etc were £400 . For the final week of the month I was living off around £20.
I think I need to budget more.

If your enjoying yourself I guess that the main, you’ll probably not live to regret it but you may do. My girlfriend is in a similar situation and spend it all on clothes, she starting to learn though.

I save between £1500 and £2000 a month, it get addictive saving, watching the balance go up, then you spunk some of it on an expensive holiday or nice bike and don’t feel guilty in the slightest. It’s also completely stress free having a year or twos worth of salary banked as you don’t need to worry about the worst Happening and loosing your job etc, at least not as much anyway.

I know I’m fortunate, I also know that I could end up as I was a few years ago if the industry I’m in ever decides to **** up, it has another 20 years in theory, but there will be hard times before then. The thought of being how I was will forever keep me being a tight arse, with the occasional splurge.

    What isn’t excluded?

I could survive on nothing. When my previous job was in trouble that’s just what I did lunches for the week were no more that £5 in total, i ate cheap fruit and a wholemeal roll with a bit of processed chicken… I list loads of weight, it was great. I did pretty much nothing out of work because I couldn’t afford to. It was a sad existence and my relationship was nearly a casualty because of it.

With my new job i’m at the opposite end of the scale, but I still do the same, except I eat more for lunch and I’ve put on weight. I have zero outgoings except those excluded in your first post. I leave myself £300 for the month, everything else goes into my savings. At the end of the month I tend to still have most of the £300 left and that goes into my savings too… I never feel guilty about spending silly amounts on a bike or garmin though for no reason other than I want it.

I’ve only done 200ish miles on it but I bloody love it, takes anything you throw at it, plus some. 2012 Orange five pro, lots of extras.

I won’t lie, I wish I’d not been so tight and bought a Blur LTC or custom build IBIS Mojo HD, ah well you live and learn, maybe next year.

Our fiscal year is end of October. If your not employed from the start of the fiscal year you don’t get a bonus at some place.

Where I work you get it pro-rata.

If it’s any concilation I got 4.5% instead of 15% because of a clerical area in Decembers pay check :( January’s payrises better be good lol

Looks great, much easier to search for MTB specific than garmin connect, gpsies etc.

I would make more emphasis on the whole of the UK part though. The description on the site talks specifically about scotland. Then I noticed a few further south.

I notice today how much better my rear feels with the sintered compared to the front with the original organic pads… The fronts feel rubbish in comparison.

I hate fancy food but work takes me to these places often The Kitchin in Edinburgh was one of the nicer ones, a round of drinks came to £480 though… Which didn’t make it through expenses unfortunately. Martin Wisharts (also in Edinburgh was ok too. I can’t stand (work) paying £75 for a pigeon breast stuffed with truffles and drizzles in some exotic spice, I only ever need a kebab afterwards.

I much prefer quaint places, the red lion in birchover, Derbyshire is awesome.

Favourite place ever though is http://www.charolaiskroen.dk/ you’ll pay £60 for a 400g tenderloin but it’s honestly the nicest, best cooked steak you will ever have.

I honestly don’t recall seeing a shit bike at the weekend on the trails anyway, at one point there was 20 people and easily £75kish of mountain bikes at the bottom of a run.

On that basis i can only assume these poor people cant even afford to get out and ride? Although the average temp was -1 according to my garmin so they probably couldn’t afford fancy cold weather clothing.

That’s a joke by the way The average was 1c and the minimum -1c

Just a thought that keeps on running through ones mind
for what i am seeing day to day and talking to people
    mainly within London.
The other day I was in Wapping and a guy bought his Fish & chips etc
in a brand new Range Rover and finished his food and packed it nicely
together and just thrown it out onto the pavement.
    Whats your thoughts on this.
Just what is the mannerism of people where you are.

Being in London they probably were not even from the uk.

Last time I went, like any capital, there was more tourists and foreign workers than natives.

I give a crap though, that’s why I want to move to a rural village, once of the last boltholes of britishness.

I rode the new bits for the first time Saturday (neon yellow five) and after taking a beating on ‘the beast’ in the peaks last weekend it was a nice break, still need to improve my fitness though.

The steep blind drop near the end just before the horrible switchback climb is entertaining at speed, new underwear if you don’t know what’s coming!

I work hard, get given an ok car by work and enjoy the outdoors/MTBing… Yet I probably fit into the stereotype, do I give a monkeys?… Nope. I’ll ride down pretty much anything but im no good at jumping right now and not particularly fit at the moment either. If other people get some form of amusement out of it then I’m glad I’ve unknowingly entertained their egos briefly while out on a ride.

I guess by some peoples logic I should buy a cheap bike until I’m good enough to deserve an expensive bike?

driving through the peaks to get to lllandegla? the mind boggles, truly…

I knew someone would say that, I like a bit of variety and was in the peaks last weekend and will be next.

Sometimes I like a chilled loop with jumps without killer climbs and where I don’t rattle to death on non stop rocky descents.

Would be boring riding the same place all the time anyway.

Way to much, probably in the region of £7k+

    The most expensive being…

Trek 4300 to try and get ‘her’ into it
Cube Acid for when riding with ‘her’
    Heavily upgraded 2012 five pro
    Garmin edge 800

RRP on that lot comes to £5.5kish :(

I don’t want to think of the rest… Which doesn’t include travel and camping etc!

Just driven through the peaks on the way to Llandegla, there’s snow even in low lying areas from Chesterfield to Newtown. Looks deep higher up.

Vestas turbine have a habit of bursting into flames or failing and leaking gearbox fluid into the ocean.

Turbines are designed to operate from very little wind, to normal/reasonably strong wind conditions… Like we get most of the time, in very strong wind the rotors are supposed to lock, and the blades are pitched into the wind.

If the turbine fails to shutdown and lock automatically or isnt remotely locked in time the turbine will overspeed, fluids will over heat and the thing will burst into flames.

Coming from a marine background some of the actions and decisions they make are frankly rediculous and not only put the entire crews lives at risk but also those of the rescuers that would inevitably come to their aid should the worst happen.

They are no more than a bunch of squatters on a completely inadequate vessels… Albeit for a good cause.

Just a thought, are the pistons metal/shiny silver, or the harder plastic Phenolic/black… Reason I ask os the phenolic ones I have are more resistant to corrosion than the metal ones which became sticky.

I have the black ones by the looks of it.

Just took the apart, the pads were more knackered than I first thought so replaced them for the sintered spares I have and the lever is awesome again.

Calipers and pistons were filthy though, need to clean them after next weekends muddy antics.

    I find 711 bars pretty damn wide… but 750 :o

I can only think of two areas that you actually won’t get through, there is a bit on follow the dog where two trees are very close, loads of chunks out of the trees on both side, and the werewolf minor gradient will be tight.

Yellow orange5….’He looks like he’s been on holiday recently, either that or its jaundice’.

It’s funny you should mention that lol… I literally just got back from Sri Lanka, but I was ill and craping out of the eye of a needle for the entire trip and I saw a rat in a restaurant while I was there, so I could have weils disease a side effect of which is jaundice. So could be either…

They are hope tech m4, the levers have been adjusted as much as they can be.

They are only a couple of months old and cleaned reasonably well, I’ll whip the pads out and clean/check the pistons/ spring though. I may as well pop the front pads in the rear while I’m at it and see if that makes a difference.
