I love my edge 800, it’s amazing how much watching your HR, cadence etc actually helps / improves your riding.

I probably dont use the satnav as much as I should, and may have got away with a 500… But you never know.

I would NOT recommend muc off dry (yellow one)…

I don’t know how long it’s supposed to last, I put plenty on…. 10miles later and the chain dry as a bone and everything sounds like a bag of spanners again.

It just doesn’t seem to last a ride… so watching the thread with interest.

5% will be down to tyres, pressure, surface… 95% will be rider, body position, weight distribution.

Get some coaching, Bob Campbell Coaching is good. Well worth it.

Minion DHF Supertacky help too lol

I have the gamut chain device, it’s a bit and to be honest although works ok.

Truative do a proper nice subtle one that I may get next if the gamut fails.

I bought a full face the other day… Not because I’m a legend… But because I tend to fall off alot and I’ve to many pictures of people picking dirt out of their gums. I’ll be using it in the alps and cautiously picked uk destinations lol.

    Doh! Fail…

Stick an SRAM on it and carry some powerlocks ;-)

Was it dodgy gear changes, or running big ring front, big ring rear?

I imagine the problem with a 6″ external dropper is where the funk does the 6″ worth of cable go when the post is dropped.

My normal one is bad enough, a 6″ one would just be stupid.

gsp1984 – just realised yours is a 26 which is why you got it for £1630.
The 29 GTC PRO SL retails at £1800 in the UK.

There is no such thing as the GTC PRO SL.

The 26er GTC SL and 29er GTC SL RRP is exactly the same at £1800 ;-) and the my LBS discount would have been exactly the same if I had been willing to wait a few weeks for the 29er, which I wasn’t.

Any of you have a look at or test ridden a 29er Elite as opposed to the Reaction? The Elite more of an out and out race bike?

I’ve never seen an elite in a shop for test ride… The main difference is components and frame technology.

The gtc SL is all XT with gt frame technology… The HPC SL is all XTR components with hp frame technology… Save 1kg in total.

It’s no more of an out and out race bike in terms of geometry as the differences are tiny… Just lighter components and frame.

No, the right side was applied. They forgot the left. What chainstay protector (size?) are you using I have an old Cube hardtail one but it is far too tight.

I just bought the cube neoprene hardtail one, it was very tight to get it to fit though. I don’t recall the size, but I don’t even recall there being a size option when I bought it.

Helicopter patches should be on both sides of the steerer tube because over time the cables can damage the resin.

Are the patches for the frame not even in the box the bike came in? Mine didn’t come fitted but were at least with the bike.

If you do the E2E in under 3 hrs then you will be in an extremely elite group who have done that , Nick Craig and 1 or 2 others . Even my wife can fix a puncture a lot quicker than 10 – 15 mins .

Yeah that was an iPhone fat finger typo… I meant 4hr… Still a challenge for me but something to aim for… We are averaging 14.3mph over a 40 mile route at the moment once a week. Amongst other training.

Good for your wife, does she use co2 or a little hand pump lol

Really interested to head about stans / no tubes conversion… Aiming to do the end2end in sub 3 hrs this year so would prefer not to loose 10 / 15 minutes fixing my tyre at the side of a trail.

£1585 for what spec :-S … I got my GTC SL for £1630 from my LBS without all the hassle of buying it from oversea and having no real comeback if it’s breaks… I hate to think what sorting a warranty issue out would be like with an overseas shop… Nightmare.

I bought a new five pro, I liked it, it rode very well compared to other bikes I tried.

I then spent a shit load more money turning it into a five AM as i ride the peaks mostly and have some alps trips planned. It does everything I want it to, I crash it pretty hard most weeks and it doesn’t look to bad.

In reality there is quicker, lighter, better spec and cheaper bikes available… And next time I will probably do it differently and buy something else.

But for now I’m happy that it takes everything I throw at it.

Doesn’t really matter what the descent is like… if you fall off at even 5 mph onto gravel face first your going to **** your face up. If your doing 20mph down a rocky hillside and make a mistake your going to really **** your face up.

Everyone makes their own choice and compromises… plus it’s bloody cold up there so a full face and goggles keeps you warm.

3 weeks later and i got my refund today after quite a bit of chasing, and many ‘we’re sorry we forgot to process it’ statements.

I did manage to get the MDs email so I copied him in my email saying the credit card company were going to cloaw the money back themselves.

He apologised and admitted there was problems with they way they process things and it’s being looked into.

Sent me a £20 voucher… ordered a set of hope pads, and two drinks bottles. Turned up the next day ;-)

Good effort, I’m not familiar with the area but if a car can get up there then an ATcrane could have, which would have been cheaper unless by chance someone involved in the project happened to have a helicopter a their disposal.

Unecessary number of people up the tower to under the suspended load.

Yeah, you shouldn’t be contacting cube direct, they won’t respond unless your an authorised dealer.

Get in touch with the supplying dealer. Cube sorted my frame warranty super quick time through the AD.

Out of respect for the other people at work you should just stay at home, i think your boss was correct in what he has done. You should still get sick pay though I would have thought. Can you not work remotely temporarily until you feel better?

I hate it when people come in to work with a raging flu or bad cold, and it sounds like you’ve already caught a spreadable bad cough which highlights the point… people come in ill then spread it around, end up giving it me and put my training back a couple of weeks, then there’s the risk of post viral fatigue. It’s better for everyone just to have a couple of days at home until your better.

Ok first challenge already…does anyone know where I can get the technical manual for the SID RL forks the SRAM site seems to have a corrupt page. Having always had Fox forks these are new to me so want to see the specs for setup

    Thanks

There isn’t one as such. The setting are printed on the fork lowers. So depending on the sag you want between 10% and 30% will depend on the pressure you put in the top and bottom valve. My lockout is a bit pants though so it would be good to know how to adjust that.

How are you finding the traction using the standard tyres?

Mine arrives soon and am considering buying some mud tyres.

Single track condition are very muddy here.

I find the racing raplh and rock ron fine to behonest. Different tyres for different conditions and all that.

Looks like you must have driven past it to get to the spaces in the first place… You should pay more attention.

There is loads of good sites to share ride, gpsies is one, I can never remember them all.

I love my edge 800 though.

I have one bike set up with the speed an cadence sensor, and the other with just HR monitor, you can have quite a few bike profiles.

I’ve done a few peaks rides that others have out on the Internet. I’ve also be lost in the peaks and moors and worked my way back to the marked start point with the gps.

Then there is all the information that is recorded which I just find bloody interesting lol

    It’s a shame really :(

They sent a new alloy frame to my lbs with a couple of days of being notified about it being bent, they didnt see the bike and you wouldn’t see the bend in photos. I’ve only ever heard good things about their warranty / customer service.

Ive come to realise Skywalker in general is a bit of a troll on the forum, particularly when it comes to fives. He/she is amusing though, although it does get tedious sometimes.

I wouldnt say its shocking on the flat, although you struggle to find any in the peaks and i don’t really go out looking for it, i have a hardtail for that :-D

I had the float 32 RLCs on before I stuck the 36s on. The 32s were better for hammering fast along smooth single track like you get at trails centres, but for speed down steep rocky stuff i found they couldn’t really cope.

    gsp1984

The spec you listed is pretty much the same as mine. Only I have the float 36 RLC rather than Talas. I ride in the peaks mainly, although we are riding the PPdS on the Sunday from chatel. It’s perfect for PPdS and peaks, maybe not for a few UK trails but still good fun.

Handling down hill and on single track is immense, and not barge like at all, the handling uphill admittedly isn’t perfect, but only on seriously steep stuff does the front get to light and start lifting.

I bottomed them out for the first time this weekend at foel gasnach downhill runs.

Oh the RP23 is a bit poop on the orange 5 from my experience, I weigh about 13st and it just didn’t ever feel right. I went CCDB and it transformed the bike.

A weekend with bob campbell coaching and I can now :-D

I had so many bad habits, like speed bunny hopping rather than manual bunny hopping. Never been able to jump properly/ consistently but could clear decent sized doubles by the end of the coaching. Recommend it to anyone.

    Same dilema here,

Went for single ply DHF minion 42a front, single ply High roller folding 60a rear. This is what orange fit on the five am.

I’ve got the same tyre but dual ply for the alps.

So yeah… turns out 4 of the 5 items I ordered are NOT in stock, despite them all still sayin in stock.

Offered a refund… took it, although I’ve heard that can be fun and they tend to sit on it and just send you the items anyway without refunding.
