Came back yesterday completely rebuilt with new stanchion apparently, not picked it up yet though.

The shop said it came with an essay of what has been done, then a lecture in servicing it more often, despite it being only 6 months old and the manual not stating anything about service intervals.

There was a fault internally do Everything has been done under warranty.

Anyone want a 6 month old, newly serviced reverb with many parts replaced? Will put it in the classifieds shortly.

Lack of UST compatibility for tubeless with the highroller 2 is the reason… The hr2 kept popping off the ztr flow rims, not something you want doing 30mph+ down a rocky alpine slope. Hence minion and hr1 which are UST specific.

I have Dual Ply front and rear for the alps, went for the 42a 2.35 minion on the front, and 60a Highroller on the rear.

The maxxis tyres are tiny. I love the 2.35 though I have the same tyres in single ply for general peaks / XC stuff. They are fast and grippy, without that much drag. I’m fairly restricted by the shit clearance on the Five swing arm.

A friend just swapped his 2.4highroller 2s for a 2.5 minion and 2.5 HR and was gutted at how much smaller they were.

No news yet… shop said they rang and fishers are still ‘assessing it’… so no news possibly bad news? time will tell :-(

:O the peaks are mega… I’ll hear nothing bad said against them. Defo better than the Yorkshire dales that’s for sure.

A few crap camera phone pics from the last month or two… it’s not the lakes, but it’s better than the dales that’s for sure.

That’s the downside… remember from riding a motorbike over there, nothing back home compares.

Apparently its 7 degrees and raining in Les Gets today.

Ski Famille just emailed me to let me know.

Seen a few videos of the PPdS in the wet lol, doesn’t look much fun.

Fingers crossed its not a wash out week entirely.

It’s normally forcasting scattered showers, so it can be beautiful one side of the mountain and shitty on the other.

Not entirely sure to be honest. I have a few theories…

    1) I fell off in the peaks at the weekend, couldn’t un clip my shoes in time on a steep climb so just went over slowly… but there were no rocks or anything.

    2) A pedal from someone else bike on the roof rack possible

    3) Hit by something in transit, stone or something

    4) Or maybe my show heel has done it when pedaling.

I have no idea though, as I’m fairly precious about it and would have noticed. Quite depressing but it seems the carbon ones are very delicate lol

Hello carbon damage, knew I should have avoided carbon.

I’m debating just sticking some resin on it, then the other half of me is thinking of sending it to a place in derbyshire that does carbon frame repairs… this looks simple compared to the damage pictures on his website.

If you get a P30 the top ISCG hole isn’t as deep as the rest, the screws are too long, then break or round off if your cack handed like me.

You need to take the big ring off, you will also obviously have to take the cranks off to fit the chain tensioner. It may be worth taking a few links out of your chain once you’ve done it.

The Gamut P30 is rubbish tbh, I have it, there is much better out there.

I’m not sure how the national forest grade stuff buts pines isnt really a red, it difficult as its so flat.

Head to cannock, Llandegla or Dalby.

The peaks can be a bit hit or miss unless you know where your going or have a good trail book.

May have damaged mine today… Doing a technical climb in the peaks and the rear wheel lost traction and spun, stopping me dead… And when clipped in that bad news so went over sideways straight down the hillside into a ditch lol

Structurally it seems strong still no matter what force you put on it but there’s a good sized mark on it.

I’m pretty sure the £25.7k is actually the household income… Not individual. So just over £12.5k each a year.., or two people doing 37hrs a week on minimum wage.

    Not exactly difficult.

cheers gsp, I’ll call Tweeks to see if they can sort my Wiggle order out

Useful for future reference, as a lesson learnt ;-) wiggles and CRC don’t even compare

The product isn’t rubbish, it does what it is supposed to do, and it does if very well. It’s a shame the quality isn’t up to scratch… At least they seem to accept this and have a good set up to deal with it.

Sounds like it may be repaired / replaced which is good news.

Just ordered a thomson elite and new seat clamp for the alps though, it doesn’t need to be failing 50kms into the Pass’portes du Soliel

Tweeks Cycles… reliable, you can speak to someone on the phone… and their stuff turns up when they say it will.

I imagine they will say you need a new chain ;-)

AA were good for me for buildings and contents. As well as many specified items such as watches, tv and jewelery over £1500 per item… It only cost an extra £16 to insure… Orange Five AM £4.5k, Reaction GTC £1800 and a couple of other bikes that are under £1500. They are covered for theft away from home of locked to the roof… Interestingly also covered for accidental damage away from home, would be interesting to see how that claim was received by them.

Needed to fit an approved ground anchor and use an approved chain though which was expensive.

I had one as my first bike, you seriously can’t go wrong for the money.

Great handling, good engine with enough power, cheap to fix.

I bought a five pro, not with talas.

I’ve since spent a fortune turning it into a 5am… And I sometimes wonder if I should have bought an Alpine 160 in the first place.

The five am is not a great climber, the front is to slack and lifts on anything to stiff. A friend on a nomad has lyriks up front and can drop down to 130mm and swears it helps with the climbing no end.

We plan on doing quite a bit of XC on top of the gravity related fun, and I am so used to riding with it now I think I would miss it.

On top of the fact all my other posts are a different size so I would need to buy a new post and clamp lol… which I would rather avoid as I’ve spent to much on this trip already.

Out of interest does anyone that has had repairs or warranty replacement know the rough turn around period?

I go to the Alps in 3 weeks :(

I used to ride without reason as a kid, happily doing 30+ miles in a day on a shit halfords carerra thing. When I say as a kid I mean about 8 to 12… then at 12 I got into BMX until I was about 16… at which point I kept hurting myself a lot and canoeing was my main sport so biking hit the back burner.

12 year break from riding bikes, with no other real hobby apart from motorbikes… a friend then says come for a bike ride, I reject on the basis I now it will end up expensive as I remember how hooked I used to be.

6 months down the line I bought an £800 cube for me, and a £500 Trek for my girlfriend and we wnet to Llandegla for the weekend.

I was hooked again, and the story unfolds from there… I ended up bending the Cube, then got it replaced under warranty and sold it. Bought an orange five pro for a stupid amount of money, spent a further £1500 making in a very high spec AM for going to the Alps.

I also bought a carbon Cube hardtail a couple of months ago after stupidly agreeing to enter the Isle of Man Manx end2end.

Now my girlfriend is on the edge of dis-owning me on the basis all I am bothered about is bikes again.

I quite fancy a road bike now too.

That sounds promising, I imagine it’s really obvious if it’s been mistreated or damaged through misuse.

Mines always been looked after to the point it still looks like new apart from the stanchion marks.

That my main worry really, it’s not just a case of a simple service, the stanchion would need to be replaced. :(

You kept using it after it started making awful noises?? Were you hoping four a total failure?

I know I shouldn’t feed a troll. but please read what you quoted…

I obviously stopped using it straight away

After identifying that it was crunching when going up and down, I immediately stopped using it.

Unfortunately I forgot to take my spare seat post with me though on this particular ride  so I had to continue sitting on the extended seatpost until I got back to the car.

There is no service interval for the reverb noted on the SRAM site, or within the Reverb User Manual.

You can send it back to SRAM for a service at a cost of £35, but that’s a relatively new thing.

The gouge is from internal failure of something, its very linear.

Llanberis to betws garmon via the mines/hills, down to llyn cwellyn, up the rangers and down telegraph valley (bwlch maesgwm on the OS map)
Probably 3-4 hours ride allowing for a long dinner stop

You would gave to be up early to beat the unofficial bike ban, and careful with the weather on snowdon.

    Penmachno is a great trail.

Irrelevant for recent conditions but two weeks ago it was like riding in a river… But still one of the best trails I’ve ridden in a long time.

Same camp site as us then 8-)

There’s a free bus takes you from the centre of chatel 12km down the road to the chatel bike park. We figured that the PPdS take you around all of the main portes du soliel area so we are just going to explore all the different areas on the PPdS route, focus on an area each day, or stick to a few we really like.

Keep an eye out for four lads in a 61plate camper. Neon yellow five, white five, white santacruz nomad and a trek something :-P you can give us tips of good routes you’ve learned in the days before we get there ;-)

Ive never notice the drainage as a problem to be honest. Although it is one of the areas that has bee improved… Infact the new drainage channel are so big I mistook one for the trail itself as the sun was bright.

The surface has been improved in many places, a few extra features (rollers, berms, new section bypassing the bike park which is quite good.

Running fast at the moment too, whzzed round in exactly 45 minutes last week.

You want to head towards Pindale road / quarry, and the caveldale descent into Castleton for some of the better descents in the area.

I had the 2012 factory rp23 on my 5, it was fine but never felt quite right, even with 200+psi it would blow through the travel.

I went for the coil CCDB, my experience is that it transformed the bike, downhill was obviously singnificantly, but the most noticeable was going up hill, traction on loose rocks and roots was vastly improved.

On a 5, the weight difference really is irrelevant and no more than a good poo.
