I will be there.I have not been on my bike for about 3-4 weeks(new baby).I did the last one(my first one)in january and absolutely loved it.Met loads of new people while I was riding and had a good old chat with a few people.I may not be the fastest out there but I will be the one with a big smile on my face.
    See you there.

I have been riding with a road cassette for quite a while now as i am a bit like you(only using a few at the back). Also if you choose wisely and work out what ratios you need you can pick up a good cheap and light cassette.I have just bought a Specialities 9 speed cassette second hand for £12.50 delivered and it only weighs 118g. 8O A good cost effective way of saving a few grams.

thepurist if you are not sure how to replace your bearings try my way!!When you get your bearing cups out place a internal circlip on the inside of the bearing(you will need a pair of circlip pliers).Sorry not sure of circlip but you can usually buy a bag of them cheap. Then place the cup with the bearing side down on a vice or two bits of wood.Make sure only the extreme edges touch the wood or vice so that the bearing has enough room to be pushed through. Then grab a 19mm socket and place in the inside of the cup and make sure it is resting on the bearing and then smack it out with a hammer. When putting your new bearings in place them in the cup and place the old bearing next to it so that then you can press them in using a vice.Sounds complicated but in reality it is simple.

Buy just the bearings as that is the only part you really need to replace. You can buy these cheaply on ebay and SS do some ceramic ones for about £30 a pair. They are really easy to change as well(if you know how).

I am the same as sparkyspice I have XTR dual controls (newer style) and I love them.I would not use any other brakes.I also bought some superstar kevlar pads and they are great.Lots of braking power.

I use a triple up front with a 22 32 44 and a 9 speed on the back 11-25 which i think saves a bit of weight off the cassette compared to an xt or xtr cassette.Works for me.

The good thing about having a light bike is that they usually look bloody good too!! Also maybe if you have a heavy bike you might shy away from the really steep hills(unless you like a challenge) but if your bike is nice and light then you dont mind as you know you can fly up to the top and feel good about it!
