Thanks Hainman – being xxl has it’s advantages sometimes ;-)

I think my mate can claim top trumps on this one……..owns a 5, is an IT Manager, and drives a ‘white’ new Audi A4! However, he does not like coffee………….

Took hub off tonight, and as I took the first spring off it snapped!! Think I may have found my issue now.
Cheers for the help and guidance guys.

Cheers for your responses. I’ve not changed my cables as my rear mech is shifting nicely, and everything appears to be lining up well. I removed my rear mech hanger last week to make sure it was nice and straight and fortunately it was.
Going to have a look at the hub tonight to see if I need new pawls in addition to springs.

I must admit the pro 2 clicking sound is not as loud as it has been in the past………

I’ve just bought 2 sets of bearings for my pro 2 rear hub, and 1 set for my front pro 2 for £19 inc P&P from an ebay shop called greenandypants.

I tried the 2p trick but with no joy, so I ended up hitting the shaft out from the non drive side. You should have seen the state of my pawls/springs on my free hub………Never seen so much congeled grease and muck! Anyone know where to get low cost stainless steel bearings from for a pro 2?

I’ve also got one on the rear which I’m really impressed with. However, I did have a bit of an off when trying to jump off the last section of board walk near me……as I lifted my front wheel to drop off the end, my bike went clean from underneath me!

Apart from that, they handle the sloppy stuff well.

I’m currently having a competition with my mates to see who can own the most colour clash bike. Just started the process and to complement my blue frame I have painted my front wheel neon pink, fitted yellow nuke proof bars and clashing pink grips. As you can probably tell, I don’t take colour schemes seriously, and my wife does not understand why I want to “ruin” a £3K bike!
Any one else of a similar mindset to me or am I on my own?? Ha ha!

Cheers for the suggestion of Gusset, but I think I want a slightly higher rise. Seen the Nukeproof Warhead 38mm rise bars for sale, and I’m contemplating whether to go 760mm or 800mm. Currently have 680mm wide and find my hands are hanging off the edges as I’m broad shouldered with ape like arms!!!

Thanks again coatesy, Loco has done me a deal on the mech and I’ve taken the opportunity to get a seal kit at the same time!

I’ve been meaning to give hime a call for a seal kit for my rear shock…..Loco is the chap that sells the seal kits isn’t he?

I too run a magicshine light on my bars, and just took delivery of one of these:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CREE-XML-XM-L-T6-1600-Lumens-LED-Bicycle-Lamp-Bike-Light-HeadLamp-Headlight-New-/220874901171?pt=AU_Sport_Cycling_Accessories&hash=item336d2b86b3#ht_5517wt_922

For £31.75 inc p&p I can’t complain. Fitted to my helmet it gives a good pencil spotlight which is a good addition to the light on my bars that gives a flood of light. Delivery from Hong Kong only took 9 working days too.

Wish I’d gone maxle, but I am a heavy rider….
Cane Creek tapered headset is a waste of time, I wrecked mine within 7 months! If I ordered again I’d go for a double and bash from new.

Alfabus, rest assured we will be taking the bikes out for a thrash, but most of us are looking forward more to the beers whilst recovering on the Saturday night :P

Thanks for the offer nickb, but you are a bit too far away for me.

Anyone else located in the Midlands that can possibly help me out with roof bars?
    Cheers.

I purchased the Superstar double chain device five weeks ago, and after a bit of messing about putting two bends in the backing plate to line it up on my Orange 5, I really cannot fault it. Not had any wet/muddy rides yet, so can’t comment in those conditions. Also, I have not noticed any extra noise from my drivetrain, which surprised me.

tom, I use it with my granny ring with no issues, so I’d suggest you go for one!

Cheers for the M&S tip. Looks like I’ll be swapping over my home insurance to them! I thought I may have needed specific bike insurance in addition to ‘normal’ house insurance so you guys have saved me a bit of cash there – Ta!

Thanks for the offer psychle, but I live in the Midlands. I’d not thought about using all thread, and either wood or a couple of sockets. Cheers for the good ideas chaps!

I have to disagree with you Northwind, I bought a 2011 5 with standard quick release and wish in hindsight I’d gone for the maxle. I can feel the rear moving about all over the place. However, I’m a big rider at 6′ 3″ and over 15 stone….

I bought one in October, and I’m really chuffed with it. Fits me really well and has lots of ventilation zips. For £53 it was worth the money.

Before I start I love my Orange 5, but I thought I’d share some teething problems I’ve had with it…….I bought a 2011 5 pro in September. In October my left pivot bearing disintegrated and was told by Orange that they’ve had a batch of faulty bearings appear on 2011 models. In addition my SLX pedal arm fell off whilst riding three times. The use of thread lock appears to have solved this issue! I’ve also snapped my rear hanger, snapped my chain and mashed my rear mech. Maybe I’ve been unlucky, but I still can’t help being chuffed to bits with the bike every time I venture out!!

I’ve had a 2011 5 pro since August and I regret not taking the maxle option as I can feel movement of the back end with the standard QR. Is there anything I can do retrospectively to stiffen up from the standard QR? BTW I only remove the rear wheel when I get punctures!!!!

Thanks for the suggestion big chief, but my mate is crap on the spanners, so building a custom is out of the question. He’s also set on a new bike so he does not have to do any repairs, or replace any parts early on.

I will be needing a 10 speed specific chain, and the bike originally came with a Shimano one. Would you suggest replacing like for like, or are there better versions for similar costs?

Got a branch caught on Thursday night, and snapped my rear hanger, trashed my rear mech and mangled my chain……I was trying to get away fast from something that was roaring at me over Cannock Chase!!!! I could hear a rustling noise ahead of me so shouted to scare what I thought to be a deer away, but the loud growling noise that was returned was very un-deer like!!!! Ha Ha!

Cheers MrTall, I'd not thought about using one of those. It'll also help me fit the bike in the back of the car as it's a large frame!

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I best book an appointment to see my GP…….probably have to wait 12 months for a physio appointment!
