Thanks guys for all the input.

I very nearly backed out as I think he’s a little young at the moment, but it’s the first time he’s shown real enthusiasm for something other than his bike. He plays with his lego, but loads of other stuff never gets touched.

I’ve told him the photos don’t come cheap and he needs to limit what he snaps (he’s got a cheap digital kids camera at the moment, where he snaps away to his hearts content…but that has games on it too and quite ofter find him playing them rather than using the camera).

Think I’ll look at the Fuji one

Anyways, thanks again, nothing ventured, nothing gained….hopefully he’ll end up taking better photos than his old man….

I thought Switzerland had some silly prices. The price of some of those jackets from that second site were eye watering for what they were ???

I would agree with you lot if I in the UK.

Here in Switzerland my kids walked to school from 5 … in fact they all do.

wear their little reflective bibs and come in by foot, scooter and bike, very few are dropped off by car.

It’s actually nearly frowned apon for parents to take their kids to school.

Glad to hear it’s worked out for you, well done.

Going through exactly the same process. Although to be fair, we are so far agreeing on the split so it’s just a case of sitting with a joint lawyer and having the paper work drawn up.

Also, on the lady front…couldn’t agree more…plus zero stress and games. If you get on, can have a good chat and a laugh then away you go!!

Switzerland, Valais, we stayed around Sion/Sierre. Lovely part of the World.

Although Switzerland is mental expensive…especially eating out (I earn Swiss Francs and even I sometimes go a little dizzy with some bills).

Also, Switzerland, quite a few campsites don’t like normal BBQ’s and only want gas ones…Just bear it in mind.

There’s a few places where they have summer sledges down runs in the mountains. I think campsites seem to be a bit more rustic in the French speaking part…German speaking part is VERY organised.

Also, I was down near Finale Ligure, Italy a couple of weekends ago, that’s a nice part of the World. Lots of MTB there, but the beach wasn’t bad either and some nice old towns to visit…good food too.

Lack of empathy, grandiose and entitled attitude, extreme charm and (superficial) confidence.

Ohhh, you’ve met my soon to be ex wife then.

Problem is they suck you in and you only start to see their true side after you are well and truly caught up in it all….then you spend years wondering how this happened and how you can survive it….

Crickey, very worrying. I’m going through a divorce at the moment and when I read things like this I start to think that perhaps buying a boat and going sailing would be a much better idea than trying to get back on the dating scene again.

Cheapy camera like mine doesn’t do it justice. There were quite a few really steep techi sections. I bought that to see if I’d use it. Think I might upgrade to a GoPro soon. Maybe not a massive drop but due to the dip if you didn’t get your weight back you’d be OTB.

Yep we took a couple of uplifts. Takes you up to the NATO base, and Dino I think, plus other places….definitely need to book in advance…:bike Finale . There are guide books and a trails map for the area. One us did a sterling job of putting the routes into GPS, and 3 of us had them, so between us we kept the faffing to a minimum.

Really good riding, lots of different terrains and some good bush tucker in the evenings.

    I iz a little buff.

Ship you not, a few months back I came to the conclusion I was really loosing strength.

Anyways, I decided a bit of muscle would help out and lessen the affects of stacking it on the mountain bike. Plus we have a gym at work, so around 14:30 (when I need a break from work and it’s empty) a couple of times a week I get in there and ‘ave it!

Reckon I’ll have to do a few more disco work outs now.

Cheers deepreddave….some good words of wisdom there, thanks mate.

Cheers lads, good to get things off my chest and hear others experiences.

Can being divorced be the new niche of Singletrack, likes log burners and Audi’s ? ;)

It kind of amazes me how cold they can be about the whole thing…slightly frightening.

Unfortunately we don’t have spare rooms as we are 5, she seemed to think that we could continue sharing a bed (although to be fair, not much has happened there apart from sleeping for a fair while). I pointed out that’s not really an option so I get the pleasure of my daughters company tonight…she normally does a fair bit of sleep talking so maybe I’ll actually catch what she goes on about.

She’s Greek, not British, but according to Swiss law she can’t just up sticks and go…we’ll she can (oh, if only), but she can’t take the kids.

Spoke to two different lawyers, got an idea of costs and their attitudes.

Will try and get her to agree to most things in principle before hand, then hopefully the lawyer part should be just a case of putting pen to paper as it where.

Thankfully the only property we own together is an apartment in Greece. Shame as it’s a nice apartment, but half of something that’s worth F all and has a mortgage is not great loss.

Amazing thing, this negativity has been going on for a while. I’ve often thought (before it was really going to happen) that I would never get involved in another relationship.
Since all of this has kicked off, I can’t help thinking that I want to hit every club, tinder (the young blokes at work showed me that a while ago) and every dating site going.

Is this some kind of re-bound thing…..any psychologists in?? Is this some kind of thing where I’m trying to convince myself I’m still a bit of alright?

How about renting a 1 bedroom place that you both share for when you aren’t with the kids? Splits the costs easily…

My mum mentioned this….but to me, it would just be her things still around, somehow I need to make a clean break as much as possible and only have dealings with her when it’s directly related to the kids.

Maybe there is something to salvage ?

I’ve tried so many times, things will be okay for a while then they come crashing down again. I’m someone who pretty much gets on with everyone, easy going, not too serious, she just seems to wind everyone up the wrong way, even her mother and brother have enough of her after a few days.

I think it takes a long time to really get to know someone…the longer I’ve known her, the more it scares me. She’s actually talking to me as though nothing has happened, as though it’s just a normal day.

I know in the end I’ll look back and say thank F that’s over.

Problem is, at the moment all I can think of is what the F do I do now?

    RBS or UBS?

    Neither :P

Fly into JFK, then we’ll head into Manhattan and then either train of taxi up to Stamford.

I think Stamford is just going to be evenings out for food.

Hotel has a gym and pool, so, plan will be to do some exercise before work, get stuck in during the day and hopefully find somewhere nice for food.

I did think about looking to hire a bike to get around on, always find a bike is handy for checking out a place, but it’s a bit pricey just to have a puttle around in the evenings.

To be honest, having some big issues at home, so I guessing it’s probably best to stay off the booze.

    Thanks for the tips.

    Cheers,
    GL

Have you considered Endura Singletrack pads?

They are comfortable and good velcro straps so you can get them on and off in seconds.

I’ve been using them for a couple of years and although I’ve never had a direct hit to the knee (but that’s always the way, the day you don’t wear them is the day you’ll smack the stem or a rock). I forget that I’m even wearing them.

Mine fits directly to the bar, so I guess they also make a bracket with a smaller diameter.

Some good points guys. Thanks for your views.

Yeah, I’m wondering if I should up the pressure. Running tubeless, but I’m 1.83 and 90 kg (big bones) so on the big drops/jumps I notice things are bottoming out a bit on the rocky paths.

I’ll also try some other tires, High Rollers aren’t bad, let’s see how I get on with upped pressure.

Anyone had any experience with Continentals? Used to run them on my 26 hard tail and they weren’t bad.

Must admit, I was thinking of upgrading from 3×10 to 1×11, but I also know I have another 1 to 2 years before I’ll go for another bike, so, my sensible head says save the grand and a bit (Swiss Francs) for new wheels and running gear. Use the bike as is with upped pressure (maybe try some different rubber) and put the money towards a new stead a bit later on.

2.3 is about the minimum for 30mm internal…so they say, any wider the tire and it starts to get flatter, which means corning isn’t as good.

Front I can fit a wider tire on, but waiting for the High Roller II to be tubeless in 2.4.

As for the rear, 2.3 is the maximum I can fit.

I was wondering if it would work out more expensive to buy parts seperately and have wheels built up, but by golly…Just seen the price of the 1501’s built

Thanks for all the info guys….sorry for not getting back sooner…been nose to the grind stone today…………

    oh my….

I’ve been riding since a small lad…a couple of years ago I was lucky enough to get a Tripster ATR (which is Ti)…….my word, what a material…I always like riding my bike…but Ti…it’s something else….plus that bike looks the bee’s knees!!

Thanks for all the words of wisdom, I’ll check things out over the weekend and start to gain a bit of knowledge on the jump bike scene.

Must admit, the old, pump track, jump area, pays off. Went out on one of our local downhill routes yesterday and noticed finally…finally, i’m starting to enjoy flying through the air….it was a lot more controlled.

I think you need to give up….

On Crashing that is. It does none of us any favours.

I sometimes wonder with full susser bikes whether we tend to ride faster than we used to in the past…which is great whilst you are riding like a God, but a bit of pain when you come off as it tends to be at higher speeds.

I’m 42, but recently made the decision to start working out a bit more and building up a bit more muscle mass. Does help a bit when you come off….As I discovered Tuesday night.

Took a smack to my head (cracked the helmet), face, stretched my neck a bit and managed to trap my shin between the twisted bars and frame.
To be fare I thought I was gonna be in a bit of trouble, but I think the gym sessions and general flexibility exercises paid off.

….Plus I get to buy another fancy lid without feeling guilty!!

    Good luck with the surgery.

Also the excavations of Akrotiri (“Atlantis” type thingy) are interesting if they are still open.

Yep, this is a must, also, see if you can get a tour, there are some very interesting things that you might not pick up just walking around.

Look at hiring a car, pretty cheap for a silly little small one. In fact, I’d say that’s a must too. I lived in Greece for quite a few years, so maybe I’m a little spoilt, but I have to be truthful I think 3-4 days was enough for Santorini, so you may want to move about the Island.

Quite famous for their Fava, Capers and Wine. Worth visiting a vine yard and hearing about how the vines grow as baskets on the floor and picking up a couple of bottles.

Apart from the Sunsets. Very good food and wine. Beaches…not so, but very clear water and good for Snorkeling.

The 3.0 CSL looks amazing too.

Aye, that really does look special, until that point I always had a soft spot for an early 6 series.

Still think about buying a classic 6 but I feel like the actual experience of driving it will not be the same as the idea.

I’ve got my xdrive 3 tourer for day to day service (which I sadly take far too much care off, but I even used to polish the old bangers I drove years ago). I think I may look at the latest Z4 manual when the second had prices drop as a bit of a fun car when the wife and I are without the herberts. Kind of a future classic.

A while ago I found some documents from

    http://www.blueskyresumes.com/

On how to put together a CV.

Took a bit of time to do the prep, but must have worked as the last two times I’ve used it I’ve been successful.
