Anyone e-mailed the seller to see what the craic is? One day to go…

No -one got any Magura experiences?

Yeah Magura are good. Lever is quite a different shape than the short Shimano hobbies though if that’s what you like. Power is good and they seem typically German/well thought out. I’ve got a ‘spare’ set of MT6 that I’m looking rid of if you fancy giving them a go.

No idea on weight but they are DT 350 hubs and they have also been great so far.

I’ve got the ARC 27 in 29er size. Very good, no problems with tubeless, can handle a heavy lump slamming them into things! Wanted the ARC 30 originally but happy with the 27 now I have them.

Anyone interested in a Large would probably be well advised to buy that one in Orange from Merlin – sounds like they’ll be difficult to get hold of for a wee while!

Like the look of those Ion K Pacts, never came across them before. Currently using the RaceFace Charge which are pretty minimal but doing a good job so far.

Continental der baron or maxis shorty

Have you used the der Baron much? Think they are quite hard to get hold of as a 29er tyre.

    Just wanted to update.

Thanks to a few decent folks on here I’ve managed to try a few of the pedals mentioned and there were a couple of standouts:

Canfield Crampons – they are so think it really made a difference with clearance. I know its only mm’s of difference but if you’re on an ultra low BB bike they might be worth a look. I didn’t find them that comfy in use though – felt like the edge of my foot was hanging off the edge (this is not something that is restricted to this pedal though as it’s a common complaint for me).

RaceFace Atlas – a really good, solid all round pedal. good platform size and a bit thinner than most out there. Look like they will take a beating too!

VP Harrier – these are the ones I am sticking with for now. They are really thin (12mm I think) which is what I was after initially and the platform is massive! Definitely the widest that i’ve tried which suits my wide feet. They do have a bit of play in them out of the box due to the way they are designed/made which might put a few folk off but for me the comfort of the wide platform and the wee bit of extra clearance they offer makes them a winner.

Thanks milko9000. Might give them a try.

Have you just started using flats? I have quite wide feet and a lot of pedals give me a numbness in the outside of the foot as they are just not wide enough to support the foot properly. I’ve found it worse with very thin pedals as-well.

Based on the above posts though it could well be the shoes….

Anyone tried their grips? The thick ones could be what I am after-35mm seems about as big as anything else out there lock on wise.

It’s a Transition Smuggler Cokie. Same as the Whyte in a way that the rear is tight under the chain stay bridge but the problem I’m having seems to be rubbing the stays themselves….

Thanks Cokie – I actually posted on that thread because I think my current rims are decent.

The reason I am looking for the stiffest is that I am having trouble with tyre rub on the rear. I’ve scaled down the tyre and it’s still there so the next option to look at is wheel flex to see if that’s the culprit and if not then then maybe it’s frame flex.

Anyone used the DT ex471 rims in 29er size? look like they could be pretty stiff/strong?

My wheel builder said this was the stiffest 29er wheelset and he has built close to 59 sets
    54,55,56,57,58?

    Made me laugh there dirtyrider!

Any other options worth looking at aside from LB?

    groundskeeperwilly

Thanks folks – The rubbing is on both sides. I can’t detect anything wrong with the wheel myself but maybe I’ll ask the shop who supplied them to look them over.

I’d like to rule out frame flex/issues as-well. So hard for me to tell what is actually going on back there when I am riding.

I know I’ve asked before but am I still the only one having problems with the rear end if my smuggler? Loads of tyre rub even with skinny 2.2’s!

Anyone think it has a flexy back end at all?

Just bought a pair of the Scott Minus gloves based on the comments earlier in the thread, hope they’re as good for me!

I do not have them yet but I think I’ll be buying Giro Neo Blaze….Pretty minimal but should do the job.

Yeah no problems here with ARC27 rims.

Anything under 2.3 is what Transition recommend for either 2015 or 2016 frames as far as I am aware. The 2016 Mk2 definitely has more room!

To be fair if it is just a social ride with your friends then does it matter that much? Maybe next time they will move aside, or start after you?

Maybe the new rider isn’t aware of the need to bomb as fast as possible and is more interest din a bimble about or is a bit intimidated by the speed merchants he just witnessed whoosh off in front at warp speed?

Any regular group rides I have been part of normally everyone became aware of their own speed and placed themselves accordingly on ups or downs with me being at the back of the queue both up an down!

Mine is a 2015 frame FWIW.

Haven’t got much to say about the Trail Boss in wet/mud as it’s been unusually dry here! I was actually thinking if it didn’t perform in the mud then a Beaver would be my next choice for the back with a Shorty on front.

    groundskeeperwilly

    I might do that!

It’s funny how some folk love a certain pad and some hate them!

Any recommendations for a pad or a compound in general that works well but is quiet/doesnt equal much?

Can anyone tell me which Rahox pads I need for Shimano Zee?

I think that a Transition Smuggler in XL would be good but obviously still 29er.

Depending on budget the Mojo Geometron might be worth a look – reach certainly won’t be a problem….

Slightly cheaper but still looong would be the Mondrakers from the last year or 2?

The wheels are Easton ARC 27….

Had both – there is a big difference in lever shape between the stubby Shimano and longer blade of the Magura which may or may not affect how much you like the brakes.

In terms of power, reliability etc they are both good.

I’ve got a set of MT6’s coming up for sale too…..

In normal fashion I’ll recommend what I have – Easton ARC 27! Seem to be a decent weight, strong enough for 100kg of unskilled rider slamming them into things!

They also have the ARC 30 rim and you can buy the full Heist wheel set which uses the rims for under your budget.

The things with the slide is that it needs a bit more TLC to keep it running smooth than the tilt does – I guess that just the nature of the sliding mechanism and the dirt from travel and bikes that the rack has to deal with.

The slide does give great clearance to the boot though but I don’t feel that I’ve lost anything by moving to the tilt function on the newer 2 bike rack.

I’ve had the Atera Strada Dl 3 bike and now a 2 bike version. Both were good, 3 bike version was on a slide to move away from the boot which was OK, 2 bike version (newer one) has a tilt function to get into the boot which is also excellent. No problem carrying big heavy 29ers or wee small kiddies bikes. The ability to lock the bike on gives an extra sense of security as-well for quick stops when travelling.

On ‘issue’ I’ve had is that I have to use an adaptor to get the lighting pins connected to my tow bar and this can be temperamental at times!

    Overall great racks!
